packing to leave for wooster.
since i usually only make one road game per year
was trying to pick best road game.
am excited to see new papp stadium...and have never seen the bagpipers!
meeting up with a fellow alum in central ohio.
any tips on things not to miss...esp food adventures.
i know it's not exactly football, but you all seem to know everything!

I second the Thurman's in C-Bus stop.    Just don't eat within 10 hours of stopping in......it's tremendous and should last you through the winter while hibernating.
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

If by "central Ohio" you mean Columbus, do yourself the favor and stop by the Thurman Cafe.  And go hungry.

Big game tomorrow....sounds like the forecast is " Cloudy with a chance of rain/ high 53 degrees".

Would it be a Wabash/Wooster game in late October if it weren't damp out?   :)

Thurman's definitely rocks - post recovery of that two hour nap, alongside I-71, suggest a grand finale to that artery-hardening tack with a stop at Shisler's Cheese House (9 miles east of Woo on US 30 at Kidron Road, just beyond the SR 57 turnoff to Orrville).  Great swiss cheeses and curds - coupled with some pickled, Troyer's Trail Bologna, it'll be a cheap, mortician's bill after the fact.  ;D ;D

After the game...... C.W. Burgerstein or Olde Jaol.  Both downtown pubs/restaurants, watch football, good food.  If you like Mexican..... El Camp.

But get to game early ===must see bagpipers and team come down the hill, it is a fun tradition.  Enjoy !

old wabash

how early is early enough for bagpipes?
is there a wabash tailgate?

The pipers lead the team down the hill and onto the field just before the game...it's the Wooster equivalent of Wabash coming out of the tunnel before kickoff.

Noon for me....   Bagpipers probably 12:30 or so.     Stay and watch band at halftime. They are good.

Have a safe trip.

Sorry this post is a bit delayed but I have to say something - my opinion only.  Regarding the Matt Hudson discussion - if he would have played against Wittenberg...  Wabash wins by 3 TD's.  Sorry.  Comparing Huffman last year to Hudson this year...it's silly.  Hudson is the returning player of the year in the NCAC, having a great season, a leader on this squad, a Senior captain playing the biggest game of the season AT HOME at Hollett Little Giant Stadium.  Bash would have rolled.  Credit Witt for stopping the run but if Hudson is in that game, that task becomes much more of a challenge!  By no means am I pinning this on Miracle but it's an entirely different game if #14 is in the pocket.

Looking forward to the Woo matchup this weekend and it will be a tough challenge for the Little Giants.  This will be, BY FAR, the best D that Holter & Co. have faced.

Maybe Wabash actually did win that game.  Shame on you,  Wittenberg for claiming victory.  You shouldn't have had the nerve to show up at Wabash last Saturday.

BashDad

That's exactly right. They should've stayed home. Really. That's what he meant.

Note to NCAC Pick 'Em players

I must have still been in a daze from Witt's last second field goal when I put this week's games on the pick 'em board...I forgot to include the WUStL/OWU game.  I've posted that game now, so if you've already picked please go back to the pick 'em board and get your pick in for that game.

Wally,

Will Wabash win at Wooster with or without Hudson, just curious?

I am rooting for the L'Giants, plus you got a good Mount guy!

If I could say for sure who is going to win and who isn't going to win, I'd be living in the Rainman suite at the tippy top of Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas rather than central Indiana...at least until Vegas got tired of paying me off.

Can Wabash win at Wooster tomorrow?  Absolutely.  Wittenberg's defense was pretty much every bit as good as I thought they were and Wabash's second string QB had some success in his first ever start.  Wooster's defense is not Wittenberg's defense.  There ought to be some things available to Wabash's offense tomorrow that were not available last weekend...specifically, an ability to run the ball.  Wabash was able to run with great success against Wooster last year and I suspect that the LGs will attempt to do a lot of the same things they did last year.  Wabash will get some points, this I'm fairly certain of.

The bigger question about tomorrow's game, in my opinion, is how well Wabash is able to keep a guy on Austin Holter.  Beyond Holter, Wooster doesn't have a whole lot that is particularly scary to a good defense.  In the past, Holter has had a tendency to turn the ball over (I think he gave it away 6 times against Wabash last year), but as a senior it looks like he's taking much better care of the ball so I'm not expecting to see Wooster give it up as much.  Again, if Holter is allowed to run free, Wooster can pull the upset.  But I do think that if Wabash plays defense someplace near the level that they played last week, the LGs should be able to keep Wooster from scoring a bunch of points.

It should be a good game.  Wabash should win, but if the LGs are flat, Wooster is more than good enough to take advantage and steal the game.

Great stuff Wally.

With Everything that is going on with this Bash squad right now, I expect a tough, hard fought battle tomorrow.....

The thing that makes Holter so dangerous, is that when the defense covers the initial routes, Holter will then move to escape possible pressure and then all bets are off in the secondary.   Two players we did not have last year are lbs......Kraft and Pannell and I think they are huge in keeping Holter in the pocket.  Their speed and overall athleticism will definitely present a tough challenge for this Wooster offense.

It is actually my key to the game... How well will Wooster's OT, TE and RB's be able to protect the outside rush from these two linebackers.   If they have consistent trouble, Holter may have to scramble early, take hits and could lose focus resulting in some bad decisions.

Oh and by the way.... Adrian Fredrick has been cleared of any wrongdoing in last weeks Witt game (4 ints) for having tractor beam hands that will draw in any ball within 30 yards.  The investigation found that Huffman was just having a bad day with the deep ball.  ;D

At about 12:30, the band (including bagpipers) will march/play from the music building (across the parking lot from the stadium) around the Lowry student center, then down the hill and onto the field for the pre-game band show.

Later on, the pipers will lead the team down the hill onto the field just before kickoff.  They'll play again at the President's house, shortly after the game.

It's parents/families weekend at Wooster, so there should be a good crowd, if the weather is decent.  For a good tailgating spot, try to arrive by 11 or 11:30.  There is also a chili tailgate lunch before the game, behind the Lowry Center.

Your right BB16 comparing Hudson and Huffman is silly! What was I thinking.  How about comparing Hudson vs Hudson? In 2008 Hudson stats coming into the Witt game:

1483 yards
20 TD
2 INTs
204.8 Pass Eff rating
69.8 Completion %

In 2009:
1417 yards
15 TD
6 INTs
170.8 Pass Eff rating
65.8 Completion %

What leads you to believe he plays better in 2009 than he did in 2008 vs Witt?  Wabash Wins by 21 points? So Wabash scores 31 and helds Witt to 10?  Wabash never got in the RED ZONE vs Witt, but now you have the Offense scoring 31.  With Hudson in 2008 the Offense scored 13. Maybe you got your #'s backwards and meant 13 and Wabash wins by 3 points not 3 TDs!

TAKE OFF THE ROSE COLORED GLASSES! Wabash is good but maybe there are other good team in College Football too!  Coming into the game Huffman had 1 INT vs 12 TD.  Did he just have a bad day? I would like to think Wabash and Fredrick had something to do with that bad day.  The same way Witt had something to do with Hudson's bad day in 2008, and Wabash's low scoring day in 2009.

smedindy

Wabash and Witt play 10 times with Hudson as QB - Wabash wins 6 of them. Hudson makes a difference but Huffman doesn't throw 4 picks either. I don't think any argues that Witt and Wabash are evenly matched.

But they didn't play with Hudson and they still almost won. I think we've established that - so we need to move along. Wabash needs to concentrate on Wooster with the players they have - not the players they don't.
