Our LB's are scary, big, and can all run to the ball.

Unfortunately, your corners aren't.  Your LB's won't run to the ball when #1 and #9 are 15 yards behind them.

QuoteCouple steps too far on that one. Until Depauw has an attendance that approaches the one in Crawfordsville (by even two grand), I'd stick to another line of dissing.

Not really...Wabash puts in seats that are never filled and sometimes I wonder if the person responsible for the attendance number is also calculating the impact of stimulus jobs for the Obama administration.  ;)

But his point is valid...Wabash bitches about the number of tickets it gets then takes a week to sell out for a Bell game with a playoff bid riding ont he outcome. Must be the $5 parking fee. :D

D3_DPUfan,

Dude, read your buddies' posts...here, I can help you:

- "Matt Hudson hasn't seen a secondary this fast and this talented since this game last year" (ummm, Wheaton's wasn't too bad but I think all of your D-backs were better then Ittersagen)
- "The WR group is very good.  Koors, Mulligan, and Dahlstrom are pretty damn good, one of them may be among the best in the country."
- "I'm not trying to sell Witt short here, but DePauw's defense is probably just as well equipped to stop the LG's"
- "You've got ends dropping into coverage.  You've got safeties coming, you've got corners coming, you've got LB's coming and DT's dropping."
- "DePauw has that speed at just about all 11 defensive postions.  Guys go from open to covered really fast in this scheme."  (I JUST BARFED ON THIS ONE - does Coach Long ever rush the passer from the sideline?)
- "They can run the ball effectively."  (Can they really?)

I love a Dannie providing a preview on Wabash when they haven't seen them all season and they base it on last year's game.  Classic.

I am super duper scared myself...trembling.

This is what worries me the most.

Speaking of "nasty," this board is getting there. It's only Tuesday, gentlemen. We have 4 more days to go!

I have seen Wabash play twice this year, actually.

And, BB, please, at your nearest convenience, feel free to explain me, in no uncertain terms, what exactly has changed from last year to this year?  Why are you so much better?  Why is DePauw so much worse that you just erase a 22 point snoozer from the ledger?  I have my own theories on that, but since I'm apparently the idiot here, I'll let you enlighten me.

If you're insinuating that the Wabash community doesn't care, you're an idiot. If you think Wabash has trouble getting people to games, you're just incorrect. The past three monon's at WC have been attended by: 11,423; 11,669; and 11,504 people.

What's changed is the calendar. Last year doesn't matter. Hell, last week doesn't matter. It's the Bell Game....Kind of like a box of chocolates: you never know what you'll get.

Then why did it take so long to gobble up your paltry ticket allocation this year?

Average home attendance for 2009 season:

WC 4141, DU 1625

DU average will be 2900 after the boost of the Bell game.

Because Wabash alums hate going to Blackstock maybe?  There are telecast parties in Indianapolis and Greenwood...

So has Depauw's coach locked up the head coaching job for next year and beyond? Regardless of Saturday's outcome. Robby Long has done a pretty darned good job on short notice.

You're splitting pretty fine hairs, man. It's still a sell out a week before the game.

For what it's worth, I think fripp and Wes are right on in terms of their defense. It's a different, multiple rolling beast. I never felt like I had the upper hand at the line (save for their one mistake in 2005; the check that Piazza took to the house.) Witt plays it's own games rolling from coverages, but it's pretty easy to identify. Depauw plays games not just in the broadest middle open or closed sense, but throughout: corners swapping responsibilities with a safety, ends swapping with backers, etc-- hudson's pick six last year was a safety rolling down to the flats.

All of this to say it's a difficult scenario to find yourself in if you're unable to run the ball effectively. The BEST thing that couldve happened to Hudson in a loss last year were those awful picks. There's nothing like multiple int games to inspire a real study of a certain defense. Will Matt figure it out? I think he probably will, though I never truly did, but either way-- unless Kyle Stevens has a coming out party in a big way this is what is going to win or lose the game, not our stud defense or spud's ball control.

No, but who the heck knows what the DePauw administration is thinking about doing.  That group hasn't had a clue since... well, ever.
