That's the thing, except for some of the extra Bell stats this week, that's a pretty typical game notes!

Is Bash rooting for Witt or do they want another ring on their hands? Although it's a long shot for Woo to pull an upset, you never know.......  8)

Go Scots! ;D

Interesting as well:

There's certainly less harm done to Wabash if Wooster beats Witt than there would have been had Allegheny beat Witt and knocked Witt out of Pool A.  Another ring would be nice, but that's not something Wabash can control.  Wabash can control their pool C destiny by winning on Saturday.  Win on Saturday, get in the field, and then hopefully get a chance to set the record straight with Wittenberg in the 2nd or 3rd round.

At this point Wittenberg will have little trouble with Wooster. It may not be
a 52-10 score, but I do not think it will be that close.

Wally, you are the expert on NCAC, what do you think?

Flattery will get you everywhere.

These end of season games are hard to gauge.  This has been a tremendously disappointing year for Wooster.  Coming off of an 8-2, almost made the tournament season in 2008, the Scots regressed defensively and are staring down the barrel of a 5-5 year.  Maybe the Scots are just playing out the string...maybe they step up and end some senior years with a great win for the program...maybe Witt is resting and looking ahead to next week (although there is plenty at stake for Witt...two home games are a near certainty if they win while zero home games is a near certainty if they lose, plus there's no way that they want to share the conference title with Wabash)...it's a long shot for Wooster.  That defense is just too porous and the offense is just too inconsistent.  Witt will likely win this one pretty comfortably.  I don't think the score will get quite to what it was vs. Allegheny last week, but I'd not be surprised if it did.

Can we all agree that this year is the "biggest" bell game in anyone's memory?
I am sure Ings in the Snow will probably go down as a better game, but this thing has some serious potential that makes my spin tingle

I think it probably is for you guys, although I believe that before the game, 2005 was bigger for DePauw's program.  That team had a playoff berth on the line for them with a first year head coach.  That would have been a validating win for him considering the questions around the hire in the first place.  A senior QB and two of his top three targets were leaving.  At the time, we all thought the best defensive player in school history was leaving.  That was a bigger for them than I think this one is since the ticket is already punched.  Had Centre won on Saturday, well then we'd really be talking.

I agree with you, Wes.  Our roles are definitely reversed from 2005.

I agree with wes too... but there is seeding to think about!
This is just as much of a must win for Depauw in terms of not getting bounced in the 1st round on the road!?

Am I wrong? Am I wrong?

wally_wabash

Not wrong at all, wheels.  In 2005, Wabash was playing for seeding as well...top seeding.  Few things will ever be as cool as seeing the "Wabash Bracket" on ESPNews.

But yes, DPU is playing for the opportunity to go play anybody that doesn't wear purple in round 1 which should be a strong motivator.

Playing for the 6 seed, ideally.  They'd like to go to the 2 seed in round 2 instead of the 1 seed.

I think they'll be the 8 if they lose.  They won't get all the way to the 3 ahead of MSJ if they stay North.  MSJ does have to deal with Thomas More in the Bridge Bowl on Saturday, however.  But, IWU and Case will both win.

If Wabash loses, I look at the region rankings in the North and think it's a pretty easy plug and play to put DePauw at 6 where Wabash currently is and maybe move UWW into the 1 and you've got a bracket that works.  Yeah, the region ranking isn't the end of the conversation, but all 8 of the teams we're talking about are within 500 miles.

ONU @ UWW
Trine @ Witt
DePauw @ MSJ
Case @ IWU

Although, there may be a MSJ loss to mess around with.

Well said, Wes. The 2005 Bell was special, as was the season for Bash- without one dropped pass in the end zone vs Capital, We would have had the Purple at Hollett. I would have driven 650 miles for that game.
Who was the best defensive player in DePauw history-Dustin Hertel? If so, I agree wholeheartedly-in the 2006 Bell, which, incidently was the first win I ever saw in person in 7 tries, he was all over everyone, the best d3 player at his position I ever saw

Got a chance to run over to C'ville yesterday and watch the men practice for a while. I can tell you that they are excited, they have worked hard and they have been prepared.

I am sure that the men down the road are equally ready to go.

I have butterflies as big as great danes in my stomach and I can't wait until 1:07 on Saturday afternoon. It is going to be a great game!
