Valpo is going to have to poach elsewhere...Coach Raeburn is staying at Wabash.   :)

I'm very pleased to see that this was a priority for the College.  The football program and the success that has been enjoyed by that program over the last decade has been a great thing for College and the Wabash community at large.  Now it's time to look forward and focus on getting that NCAC title back!!  Wabash Always Fights!

Wally,

I am a little late on hearing that ER was considerating a change,

1. Why would he leave?

2. Is Valpo and step up, I have not heard they were, I  have no info and/or insight on them?

Glad he is staying at Wabash! :)

Have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year!

There are any number of reasons why people in this profession decide to make a change.  I've heard a few reasons as to why Coach Raeburn may have considered Valpo, but to post them here as absolute fact would be unfair to Coach Raeburn as he's the only one who really knows all of the particulars...so I won't speculate any further here.

This answer clearly depends on who you talk to.  Some don't see Pioneer League (non-scholarship FCS) as a step up from quality D-III jobs.  Without knowing anything about the relative pay scales involved, institutional resources available, etc. etc. I can't say for sure.  My hunch is that the pay is probably a little better at these jobs and that there might be bigger budgets to work with, but that's just a hunch.  I don't know for sure.

Well, so much for THAT brief flap. 3 days of non-stop blogging with our collective hearts in our throats. Time to return to our regular programming. The flap, apparently, has distracted our regulars from acknowledging the 3 Little Giants named Saturday to the D3 all-american teams-particularly Addrian Frederick (first team!!!!!). Evan Isaacs followed his AFCA accolade with second team (he wuz robbed), and Wes Chamblee stepped in as Hon Mention as a returner. Mayhaps Isaacs' AFCA nod didn't do him any good at D3.com, which seems to be at daggers-drawn with the coachs' association on their rankings for some time now, to the point where they stopped printing them.
Nonethe less, it is a tremendous honor for the three, the program and the College. Congratulations-men.

there was no footnote on the reference to er removing his name from consideration.
is that in print somewhere?
or inside info?

Old Wabash

No worries.  No footnote.  No worries.

And Raider 68.

No Virginia, Valpo is not a step up for any purpose.  More money to spend, lower achieving product.  Keep in mind it was Valpo papers flapping and media-izing (if that is a word) ... along, of course with much Dannie Hoo Ha.  Wabash is deliberate in how it approaches things ... but approach ... it will ... and with a goodly measure of perspective and judgement ... something which seems missing in other places which shall remain unnamed but reside nearby.

Did the Wabash coach possibly use the Valpo job as a way of getting a raise???

QuoteSorry Dannies and miscellaneous Crusaders ... ER will remain to thunder the Dannie brains out into the indefinite future ... now lets get back to regular programing ... such as ... "where in the world is Walters" and does the present interim coach of Dannieland really have his resume out as rumor has it?

Do you really think DePauw faithful were fearful of Coach Raeburn "thundering' our brains out? He's 1-1 for God's sake in Monon Bell games..he seems to be a solid coach...but come on...oh wait...it was a post from "wabco"...that explains it.

The answer is YES!  I'm not sure if he got a raise or if that is why he was applying but I can tell you the job at Valpo Payed ALOT more than he was making at Wabash! FOR A FACT!!! Try 130K vs 90K!

my internet has been down for 4+ hours.......as news was spreading off the board, I had no access....brutal.

The fact that ER is staying at Wabash is tremendous.  I am just glad, whatever the circumstance, that the issue is put to bed quickly.

Onward and upward..... WAF!

Let's not assume it was as black and white as a pay raise.  There are many areas that impact a program and whatever it was, Wabash appears to have worked it out with Coach Raeburn.  As others have said, I am just glad it was worked out and we can move on.

WAF!
