Brother Skinner looks good.  Can we also get his QB?

Wabash signed a LB, 5-10, 210 by the name of Blake DeAngelo from Dade Christian in Fla.

I like the way #47 closes on the ball...decent speed....BUT, at 5'10"...could he be a MG?
Or is he a true LB for the LG's.....as a fullback...he tends to run straight-up.....
Men of Wabash...you guys have the Texas &  NOW the Florida connection....
Don't you go after the Conn & NY prep players like OWU..maybe a Kiski Prep guy?????
This guy will gain 15 pounds and could be an animal.....Good choice.

Skinner does look great.  Hard to square up on in the open field and the guy just won't go down. Has some Lemond in him.

Blake DeAngelo, from down in my neck of the woods, is a human wrecking ball.  Can't wait to see him filling some holes.  He will definitely make opposing Qb's want to get rid of the ball early.

Good stuff.  It's February and I am stoked!

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

From the I shouldn't watch YouTube recruiting videos in February because then I will stay up late researching  random football stuff department:

I found that on ESPN's Scout.com draft list, the only DIII players (I could find) listed with a grade were both from the NCAC.

Harry Von Kann - WR Kenyon - Graded - 30

Matt Hudson - QB Bash - Graded - 20

Both of these players had tremendous careers!

(point of reference - Projected #1 pick - Ndamukong Suh - DT Nebraska - Graded - 98)

You would also have to think that with what Garcon & Studebaker did this year, a few more scouting eyes have been pointed towards DIII.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few D-3 guys trickle into camp. They always do. The problem / issue is that most of these men have also been prepping for life after football as well - and so they have to make a tough choice to postpone a year of studies or work to chase a dream.

I know what I'd have done - if I had the talent and the arm and could throw strikes and basically be a total 180 from my baseball career - if given a chance to be a mop up man for the Beloit Snappers I'd do that in a heartbeat.

(Oh, to have been a lefty - my mix of slow curves, slower changeups, and slow motion knuckleballs could have kept me employed. Heck, look at someone like Tony Fossas or Greg "Life Is A" Cadaret (old chum)).

What did they sign?

There was an article in a local paper (see below), with big picture included, of a Mount Union "prospect" signing his LOI.  I'm still trying to figure out exactly what he signed.  Maybe the college provides some letter to satisfy the ego of the "recruit" and their family.  However, a D-III player is not committed until they show up for practice!

Even then, a player isn't bound by anything to stay with the team.  Of course we all know that the kids playing on these teams are committed (and maybe moreso than the kids that get sports scholarships)...but there's no loss of scholarship dollars to a kid that decides to stop playing ball and focus on his degree.

Can you tell me what a football grant is?  That sounds like a loop hole football scholarship.

When I played I signed a grant-in-aid. Then it was a reduction of tuition for the year. But I did sign this at the begining of the school year not before.

I'm sure it's a local newspaper making an assumption about Division III that is in fact inaccurate.

That could be, or is that how Mount Union has stayed on top in DIII?  Is this an inaccurate quote, or something that should be investicated?  I don't know, but it would answer a lot of questions.

Also, A grant-in-aid can vary in amount, but unlike a football scholarship, the grant-in-aid does not cover all the costs for any athlete. So the ESPN folks who say that the D3 athletes receive not scholarships  are correct. The fine line of realty is that most top athlete receive a grant-in-aid, but it greatly varies by school.
