I posted this over on the OAC board in regards to the Capital University search and now announcement of its next head football coach.  So I thought I would just post it here also since it also relates to your Denison discussion here.

"...This may be a dumb question showing my ignorance, however, I'll ask it anyway.  Although I realize that in the coaching ranks, and this topic we are discussing here i.e. selection of coaches that even though a college might want from the beginning to select someone from their existing staff (which might be the plan all along), don't they by law have to post a job to the "outside" i.e. thereby constituting a "national search"    Even if so, I agree with all of you that it seems like a huge waste of time, resources and perhaps $, not only for the college, which could be focusing all those aspects in other areas of need perhaps, but also wasting the time of candidates coming in.  On the other hand, I guess it is needless to say that for someone aspiring to be a college head coach coming up through the ranks, it's obvious you have to take interviews if offered those opportunities."

I believe that laws requiring jobs to be posted pertain only to public institutions.  Private colleges can hire whoever they want, however they want, provided that they don't run afoul of anti-discrimination laws.

You are probably right, barring that there are any of their own "institutional" rules that require them to publically post the jobs internally first as well (I do know there are a few schools and, of course, non-related i.e. non-educational companies that have those requirements).  The only other potential consideration I can think of is as someone posted/suggested on the other board that there might be some federal requirement that such "outside" posting be done for such a position even for private schools if they accept federal funding in some venues, although perhaps not.  Most likely that applies only to the DIII schools that are state supported I would think.  Just speculating here as I do not know for sure.

Public schools have to officially post. Many private schools 'post' the job to make sure they are not running afoul of EEOC regulations, but really they don't have to.

Congrats to Tony Neymeiyer.  Hhe is the new O line coach for Notre Dame College in Cleveland.  Great opportunity and grad courses leading to his masters degree.  ND's head coach is one of ER's former players and ER supported Tony.  Good for Tony and proud moment for ER.

That really is just as annoying as the actual View.  Thank you Adry, Jenna, Kylie, Grace, and Olivia.  That was 6:54 not at all about football.

Girl 1: "I can't believe it sold out so quickly!"
Girl 2: "OMG! I knooooooow, right?"

The queen really tied the whole piece together, in my opinion.  That's an exceptional find, friend.

After watching the girls from DePauw....I've decided I've lost faith in the future of America & will plan on working untill I've reached the age of 85...or die...which ever comes first....

These girls of DePauw are consistent in their interests with those of prior years.  After the game, it is up to C-ville to Par tee.

I would encourage everyone to read the Butler basketball article linked above.  Nicely done!  We've attended most of the Butler home games, and I would equate the atmosphere somewhat to that of Bash home football games.  Just a good environment for college athletics.
