The stadium belongs to the school corporation.  It happens to be in one of the fastest grwoing communities in Texas.  It is supposed to be an outstanding school system, and they have major improvements for the music and the arts as well.  The sports programs there are all first class and I think their willingness to invest in this stadium only backs this up.  It is all done spereately from the regular school funding as well.  From what I here in Texas football, this stadium will be full to overflowing every week during the season.

Texas has a stellar high-school theater community, a direct consequence of having to match athletic spending in the arts.

I agree that that school district should have another high school, for just the student-faculty ratio alone. I would suspect it's because the good citizens who pay their taxes for all that do not want to dilute their talent among 2 schools. Similar to many medium-sized cities in Indiana during the 50s and 60s as the baby boom hit the high scool level, i.e. Muncie, that for years only had Muncie Central, with a huge, unwieldy student body. Couldn't dilute the Bearcats' chances. Sort of the dark side of the moon of thousands of tiny high schools refusing to consider consolidating, because the community would lose it's basketball.

#3 -   I could see if it was like Enlow in Evansville and you had multiple high schools playing on the same field.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I wish my high school had a field like that.   Playing in front of 10 - 15K+ in High School would have to be a pretty good rush.

The indoor practice facility at Massillon High School in Ohio is pretty nice as well.

They must have a "huge" Booster Club down there as well!

Bashbrother,

I think most of the facilities are used by several schools.  That's how they are able to build great stadiums.

#4 said that the one in Allen is for 1 school.  He said it is one of the most wealthy areas in the Dallas/Forth Worth area.

That Community (Allen High School) recently passed a $120 Million dollar referendum (May 2009).  Half was to go towards the Stadium and the other half to build a performing arts center.

This was after they passed a previous bond of $219 million in November 2008 that called for the building of two new elementary schools, the purchase of 45 school buses and improvements to many of the other elementary and middle schools in the district.

That is a local community that recognizes the importance of education and proper funding.

Guys

Any word on scoreboard upgrade?

On the baseball front, there is a construction trailer on site and survey stakes in the ground.  an the dirt diggers be far behind?  Suspect get the football turf up first.

Seems scoreboard upgrade will happen over the summer, along with turf. Baseball/soccer facilities to follow...

Kinda sad though, no? A little? Nothing like seeing it all in a heap to take some of the excitement away.

Memories, in mourning:

1. Witt II, 2002: Knott throws into the wind on 3rd and goal, between two defenders to Bronaugh for six. Might just be the best throw I've ever seen in person. You could HEAR the ball cutting through the wind and then the THUMP as it struck pads. Incredible. Huge throw.

2. Night before Monon, 2004. After walk-through, Nick Williams and I walked the field, alone and quietly. They had finished installing the auxiliary bleachers and the whole place felt huge, and not just literally-- like the feeling one gets in a cathedral, the quiet sound of pride.

3. Senior Day, 2005. Checked to Summers first play of the game. NCAC champs. Huge redemption day for the senior class.  My pops, who never really saw that season coming, celebrated alongside. He loved that place.

4. Capital. I remember that section of grass where Summers and Coleman fell, struggling for the ball. I was back on campus for the first time last summer and just stood in that spot, revising history.

Nostalgia lives.
