No Football Game on Homecoming? I don't think I have ever heard of something like that.

Question:  Why didn't Wooster just change the date of Homecoming?   The scheduling issue would have been discovered quite awhile ago.   Maybe they were hoping to fill the slot and then ran out of time to change it.

One would think NCAC admin would be more astute... regardless, it is unfortunate.

Maybe an option for a Wayne County, community outreach opportunity instead? Smucker's Apple Butter / Shisler's Cheese festival, highlighted by downhill, ring bologna rolling competition?   ;D

While we're railing on the NCAC, I'll point out that an Allegheny team that went 8-2 last year and returns most everyone doesn't have to play Wooster this year.

Same thing happened at CWRU a couple yrs ago.  Soccer took center stage on Homecoming weekend.  Very odd.......

As we wait for the announcement, one can ponder how Wooster is not playing a football game during its Homecoming this year on October 9. Isn't football the central element of Homecoming for every school, high school or college, that has a football team? I believe the NCAC scheduling issues that arose from Earlham leaving and their refusal to make Kenyon and Oberlin play everyone caused this. Of course, Wooster is on a bye that week, so maybe they can have a scrimmage or a skills contest for the alumni.

Who is running the NCAC anyway? It seems that the right hand does not know what the left hand it doing! What is missing, Wally? :o

Generally speaking, homecoming dates are set in advance and certainly the date and schedule of events for homecoming 2010 was already set.  That the NCAC didn't take care to protect home games for those schools who were having homecomings in the middle of the schedule is a shame on the NCAC.  The schools shouldn't have to change around their already-set homecoming schedules because Earlham bailed.

BP execs think the NCAC really botched dealing with the football schedule after Earlham left the league.  They seriously massacred this whole thing.

I agree with all of you - that is very disappointing.  Although Homecoming dates/and associated activities for that are scheduled well in advance years as Wally mentioned, still, in reality, there is no exucse for how this situatiaon occurred and was handled.  I do not feel this is being harsh at all because, if the administratiors are truthful, IMO, there is no justification for this situataion.  Certainly, there was a way to comprimise and work this out.  Too bad, and very disappointing for the students, alumni, families and supporters of the schools.

Although Seinfeld almost always has his facts straight, I had to check this one out for myself.  Sure enough, there are multiple places on Wooster's website that show homecoming as Oct. 8-10, with an open date for football.  Both soccer teams are home on that Saturday (no game times are posted, but it's probably a 1:00/3:30 doubleheader, with the women playing first, based on past years).  The volleyball team in away, and I'm not sure about field hockey.  With 58 incoming international students in the first-year class, perhaps homecoming will have a World Cup theme this year...  ;)

Homecoming without football, at a college that has a football team ... that's just bizarre.

Is it not time for the College of Wooster and its alums to respond strongly to the NCAC, where are they on all this? :-[

Seinfeld with a great scoop. DePauw is headed to the NCAC in 2011. Expect an official announcement within 24 hours. :o

Thank you bashbrother...correcting earlier...DePauw joins in football in 2012...all other sports in 2011. Not that the last game of the season needed any more juice but....wow.

Welcome aboard D3-DPUFan!

Ditto.  It'll be far more convenient to have Wes, Fripp, yourself, and even Da Bear (on rare occasion  ;D) rather than jumping around the site to keep up with banter and updates from the South.  Pleased to see y'all return to your roots, north of I-70.  ;)

No football on Homecoming is downright un-American, IMO. Not too pleased with my alma mater... already. I thought being a disgruntled alum took a couple more years to build up. I'd bet that the Wooster admin could fix this if they really wanted to, after all, it is still June and the schedule has been out for a while.

Call them and raise he--, you are alum. Better yet get a coalition of alums to call them. This situation does not help for recrutiing either!

Ok.... I admit it.  The prospect of having Depauw join the NCAC compelled me to watch some Monon Memories and listen to the Ballad in June!!!!!

I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow.  ;)

There are many advantages to the hopeful setup in 2012,not the least of which is the final weekend is NOT a non-conference game for wc & dpu,and the other 8 teams can schedule their match-ups. There was always a certain amount of grousing, from the school that was odd-man-out,having to try to schedule a non-conference game when everyone in the country was in rivalry week,or have an open date on the biggest Saturday of the year. Should work much better, if they could get the number of games played in conference squared away.
Bash Bro- I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow as well, my psychologist. Maybe I can solve the eerie feeling I have in the back of my head-those guys winning an automatic bid.
Over time, the staff will get a much better idea of what dpu is bringing to the game.
