Here is a small bit of trivia for the day:

The Wabash field now has a 1% slope, as does the U of Michigan field .... know why?

HINT:  It does not have  to do with drainage. Nor with Wabash receivers gaining speed when they break to the outside.

ANSWER:  For TV coverage.  A completely flat field looks like it sinks in the middle on TV.  Hence the 1% rise in the middle to make it look flat.

Nice trivia.

Are there any natural turfs in the NCAC?  I assume Oberlin and Hiram are still grass.  Any others?  Field turf is nice but a few games on grass would be good.  Nothing beats a game in the rain/snow and mud.  But then, when that game is late in the season the field turns into a parking lot for the next game.

Also, I know there was discussion on here a while back regarding Woo's homecoming game.  I don't know if this discussion got an answer.  Word is that Earlham was scheduled for homecoming, but when they pulled out of the conference, Woo could not find a replacement.

That's right DD...Oberlin and Hiram are the only schools in the league that still have grass. DePauw will bring their natural turf to the league on 2012, but there seems to be strong speculation that a synthetic turf is coming to Greencastle before too long.

Very cool time-lapse production on the Wabash field project.

Does the first "Pick-ems" start next week?

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Very cool.  Didn't realize the extent of the prep there was beneath the turf.  Thanks for posting.

Week 1 pick 'ems will start next week. I was planning to get the spreadsheet ready for 2010 when I get back to Indiana tonight.  :)

That's rad, Wally.

St. Thomas giving up 8.5 seems curious to me. Did you mean 85?

Wally -

I too truly appreciate the considerable time an effort you have put into the Pick-ems over the years.   You also have a great track record on the spreads.

Look forward to another year of educated guesses!  ;)

3 Reasons why 9/2 can't get here fast enough:
1) Pick-em
2) The stream of emails from ex-players and coaches to watch this video http://bit.ly/94aaZ7
3) Dan Patrick's comment this morning about playing hurt (brought on by Strausburg saga)
"Baseball, Soccer, and Tennis you don't play if you are Hurt, In football it is expected you play."

Wooster scrimmages John Carroll this afternoon at Wooster. If anyone happens to make it and can provide an update, it would be appreciated.

What a huge, beautiful project this was and is. It's just awesome.
