Barnes is showing he is a fighter.  Scots need to protect him a bit before he gets too banged up and can't run/scramble.

Giving up five sacks is unacceptable. They are young up front though. Good to hear they found a QB

Especially when three (that I can think of) are inside the red zone!

Just how did Wooster get so awful. The only way they can gain a yard is a BW penalty. Two first downs in the first half, finally got positive yards. Down by 31 to the Pile. I'm already in the car and ready to head home.

Aw, COW broke the skunk. Can you imagine what Wabash is going to do to these guys

DarkSide-D

Wooster is young.  I thought they could overcome the youth but unless they fix the o-line, this will be a long year.  Either way, Scots need to hit the film room and learn from their mistakes and build for the coming weeks.

38-14 is the final.  That was a rough one.

I have been at the Wabash/Wheaton scrimmage the last 5 years and wish I was there ofr this one...has always been a great tune up opp...I will rely on you BB#16 for a good report...

I am leaving when I finish this to head to Greenville College where Andrew is coaching now as they play Augustana tonight...

Then on the way home tomorrow will stop in Jacksonville Illinois to see the Illinois College vs Millikan game...

BB#16...I am probably most interested in hearing about any freshman that really show up strong...in regular play or the double end scrimmage with Wheatons frosh...as well as who really looks good for Wheaton...I will probaly take in the North Central vs Wheaton game this year...

WABASH ALWAYS FIGHTS

Wish we had Rocky...and hope he has come back to true form...

OWU goes for it on 4th and goal from the 2....pass complete for 1-yard.  Turned over on downs.  15 plays, over 7 minutes of clock...nothing on the board.  Gotta finish it guys.  0-0 in Granville.

Bishops stall at the 2 yard line again.  Hollway elects for a field goal this time.  Bishops lead 3-0 in the 2nd quarter at Denison.

Denison gets a nice KO return that sets up a 9-play scoring drive.  Denison takes the lead 7-3 in the second quarter.

Murawski has a pick for OWU.  Bishops are set up in the red (Big Red?) zone.

Bishops get to the 5-yard line and stall out again.  FG is good.  7-6 Denison leads.

Good 2-minute offense for Denison pays off with a TD.  14-6 in favor of the Big Red.  27 seconds left in the half.

Denison is in the red zone on their first drive of the second half...Bishops hold and a FG attempt is missed.  Dodged a bullet there, OWU.

Denison has missed another field goal.  The field has been tilted hard toward the OWU goal line in this half.  Bishops need to at least gain some field position here.  Start of the 4th quarter in Granville.

Yet another Denison FG attempt...this time it gets blocked.  OWU starts at their own 35...best field position for the Bishops in a long time.

QB change for the Bishops...no matter.  3 and out and a 15 yard punt.  So much for flipping the field.

4 FG tries for Denison in the second half...4 misses.  Wow.  Any one of those probably puts the game away.  OWU still has a pulse here.

Denison intercepts Espinosa.  I thought OWU started pretty well offensively, but after the first couple of drives, the Bishops have really struggled.  Just 153 yards...80 of those on one drive that ended at the 1-yard line.

Sam Fioroni has scored from 6 yards out with 22 seconds left to give Denison a 21-6 lead and putting this one to bed.
Final score: Denison 21, OWU 6

Neglected the Puppies...found the live stats.  2nd quarter action, Hiram leads 6-3.  Westminster just kicked a FG to cut the lead in half.  Hiram is outgaining Westminster 143-94 so far.  You have my attention, Hiram.

Westminster has a short field and eventually punches it in for a score.  Titans take the lead 10-6 over Hiram.

Brendan Rehor is slinging it for Hiram.  20 pass attempts already for the Terrier QB.

Hiram converts a 4th and 10 to give themselves a chance for a FG before halftime....maybe.  Timeout with 4 seconds left...ball is at the Westminster 13.  They wouldn't go for it would they?  They didn't...FG attempt is no good.  Hiram trails 10-6 at halftime.

Hiram has a 16-play drive end on 4th and goal from the 1.  They didn't get in.  Titans take over still leading 10-6.

Westminster is back in the end zone.  PAT no good.  16-6 Titans in the 3rd.

Uh oh...Rehor gets intercepted and returned for a TD.  23-6 in favor of Westminster now.

End of the game in Hiram.  Rehor throws for 300 yards on the nose, but the Terriers fall.
Final score: Westminster 23, Hiram 6.

Bethany's opening kickoff goes out of bounds.  Anticlimactic start there.  Gheny opens with the ball.

Gators get down to about the 10 yard line...fail to pick up 3rd and a chain link...take a delay penalty and miss the FG.  0-0 at Bethany.

INT for the Gator defense.  Offense is quickly back on the field.

Salopek has his first TD pass of the season.  7-0 Gators.

Bethany had  a nice drive going until a second INT derailed it.  Nice return and the Gators are back deep in Bison territory again.

It took a while, but Allegheny scored.  Another Salopek TD pass.  14-0 Gators.

Salopek strikes again right before the half.  21-0 Gators.  Bethany is very overmatched here.

Missed FG for the Gators.  They kind of torpedoed this drive with a couple of silly play calls in the red zone.

Allegheny has scored again.  I missed what happened.  It's 28-0 near the end of the 3rd.  Bethany has been pretty hapless in this one...I'm not anticipating a comeback here.
Ballgame is over in Bethany....
Final score: Allegheny 28, Bethany 0

Oberlin and Kenyon have traded punts so far early in the 1st quarter.

Kenyon intercepts Mandel and has the first big play of this game.  Kenyon will start in the Oberlin half here.

Mandel has fumbled away to Kenyon.  The Lords are in the red zone.  Oberlin's offense is really struggling to start.  Three and out and two turnovers in the first three possessions.

Kenyon has officially busted out the wildcat...and it works.  TD run for Brett Williams.  7-0 Lords.

A couple of big connections from Mandel to Witjes puts Oberlin in the end zone.  This Witjes kid looks pretty good.  Yeomen tie it up 7-7 nearing the end of the 1st quarter.

7-7 at halftime in Gambier.

Kenyon has a TD pass from Dan Shannon to Brett Williams.  14-7 Lords lead.

An Oberlin turnover turns into a Kenyon field goal.  17-7 Lords.  Under 5 to go in the 3rd.

End of the 3rd quarter...Kenyon still leads 17-7, but Oberlin is threatening with a 1st and goal at the Lords 8 yard line.

Mandel tosses one up to Niec for the Oberlin score.  17-14 Kenyon just into the 4th quarter.

Oberlin tried an onsides kick here.  Kenyon picked it up and took it to the paint for a score.  I don't get that call at all.  It's not like Oberlin's defense has been awful in this game and they had to steal a possession.  PAT is no good.  23-14 Kenyon after that curious play.

Oberlin answers the Kenyon KO return with a field goal.  23-17 Lords.  I'd go onsides kick here...there's no way they expect it twice in a row.  Nope.  Played it safe.  Kenyon returns out to near midfield though.

Oh  man...Oberlin hits Shannon out of bounds on a 3rd down scramble.  Flags everywhere.  Kenyon drive stays alive.  That penalty is killer.

Oberlin blocks a FG attempt and has the ball back down by 6.  Yeoman offense has good momentum right now.

Here's your NCAC game of the day....Oberlin just converted a 3rd and 10 from the 20.  Obies are inside the 10 yard line now with somewhere around 2 minutes to go.

Quick slant strike from Mandel to Niec for an Oberlin score.  The PAT is missed, but there is a flag down....it's after the kick; personal foul on Kenyon.  Bad penalty.  Anyway, the score is tied!  23-23 with exactly 2 minutes to play.

Shannon's pass over the middle gets picked off by the Yeomen defense!  Oberlin will set up in Kenyon territory with 1:15 to go.    Kenyon sacks Mandel back onto the Yeoman half of the field.  Timeout Oberlin...1:00 to play.  Oberlin can't recover from the sack and will have to punt with 49 seconds left.  Kenyon muffs the punt, but they are able to knock it out of bounds inside the 10.  Kenyon is likely to just run this out and play for OT here.

OT is on the way in Gambier...23-23 at the end of regulation.

Kenyon starts with the ball...the Lords don't move the ball an inch in three downs but do convert a 42-yard FG.  26-23 Lords.

And before I can update the post, Oberlin runs one play...Mandel to Niec in the corner of the endzone for a TD.  Ballgame.  Oberlin wins.  Wow!!  Mandel had a HUGE day.  335 yards and 4 TDs.  Nice debut.
Final score: Oberlin 29, Kenyon 26

Wally, I take it this means you couldn't make it into Crawfordsville for scrimmage?

That is correct...couldn't make it down to the Ville.  I know BB16 is there so I'm sure he'll have some observations a little later on.

Good afternoon games in the NCAC...

- Awesome come from behind road win for Oberlin.  They've got two weeks to get ready for Wooster.  The Scots should not take them lightly...Oberlin has some kids who can make some serious plays in the passing game.

- Gators kind of coasted.  I feel like maybe they should have had some more points, but they were never threatened in their game.

- Nice win for Denison, but the ongoing story here continues to be what needs to happen at OWU.  Two field goals against Denison does not foster a lot of confidence when the next two games are vs. Wabash and @ Witt.

- Good start for Hiram, but the offense fizzled a little in the second half.  Only 17 points given up by the D though.  I think Hiram showed a ton of improvement over last season.  The Terriers will beat somebody for sure this year.

Well, I think Wooster will fare pretty well against OWU on the 25th.  Will not be 10,000, as I earlier suggested.  Can't remember Bishops ever losing to Denison.  But both teams appear to be breaking in a lot of new players.

Wittenberg up 42-6 in the second quarter in Springfield, needless to say it looks like they're starting out well this year!

New quarterback Ben Zoeller 10-14 for 189 yards and 4 touchdowns so far

Thanks wally for the updates...Last time Big Red beat OWU was in 1996 (20-14)
The two did not play the last 2 yrs....The Bishop Sr's have 9 wins to their credit in 3 yrs...That will be the last time I do a pick with my heart.....

I love Wooster's campus and stadium, especially with the upgrades.  But OWU also has a great campus and their stadium, which I believe was designed after the horseshoe, is awesome.  Is it the players or coaches?
Will Hollway be able to stay there till he retires?  Seems like they always start 0 and something, then win a few games.
In Wooster, a few years ago after Sutton left, people were grumbling when Schmitz finished a bit above .500.
