Puppies beat Lords...21-13
South Dakota beats Minnesota 41-38
Does this mean upset in Springfield?

This win was uglier than a bucket of homemade sin. Glad to get the win but there is a lot of work to do. Penalties would be a great place to start.

Hope to any and all deities listening that Wes is okay. Something about the idea of losing our two best WRs before the 1st game is even over makes my skin crawl.

One bright spot was freshman Kraus. Nice way to step up.

Credit to Wooster for being in a position to have the ball and driving for the win in the last minute. Not looking forward to 3 more years of Barnes at QB. He's a slippery one.

Hope Wes is okay and we can clean this up starting next week.

The D3 Scoreboard still shows the game as on-going.  What was the final of Wabash v. Wooster?

Thanks!

Ugly win, but considering the last 6-8 years of watching the LGs play terrible after the first week bye, I'll take any win.

Good news is that there are lots of easily correctable problems there.  Very young team.  They will get better.

After watching Wabash play today, and watching Cal Lutheran/Linfield, MSJ/Hanover and now Willamette/Hardin Simmons I have come to the conclusion that D3 pass heavy schools are going to have a rough go of it in the opening weeks. The timing in almost all the games looked to be just a second off, the offensive lines don't look as crisp - everything just plays a bit slower than it does in mid-season. I don't know that this is a big revelation, but it certainly gives more balanced/ run heavy teams an early season advantage.
A fan of good football - wherever it may be found.

My "I've had a chance to sleep on it" thoughts on the game:

First of all, hats of to Wooster for coming to play.  They were scrappy and the zone read running play worked for them most of the day.  Barnes and Flagg are quality runners.

Now to Wabash:

Defense had a decent day, aside from a few series, they played solid.   CJ Gum was all-over the place.

Offensive line -  I think for being a new group, they played very well.   Plenty of clean-up to do, but all and all a good day.  They opened some nice holes yesterday and gave Chase some time to throw.

Running Backs -  Yoder was clearly the best of the two backs yesterday.   At least he runs up field and doesn't try to bounce everything outside.   He also seemed quick and sharp.

Chase Belton -  About what was expected of him.   Some real flashes or brilliance mixed in with some rookie mistakes.    He needs to not try and be Superman on every play.   If there is nothing there, throw it away.   A few of his passes down field were right on the money and were dropped.   Having Wes go out early yesterday, I believe distracted this offense in the 2nd half.

Wide receivers -  Had a good day at times.  They had a great day getting open.  Drops have to be eliminated.   Horn and the rest need to step up.

Special Teams -  Had a very nice day.

Lots to work on, onward and upward.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Bashbrother:

Awfully kind assessment of yesterday's game.   It is, after all, only the first game but the tell-tale signs of a long season are there in plain sight.  The team will go as far and the QB and offensive line will take them.  I remain hopeful but not optimistic.

BashDad - Hope Wes is OK; heard he was scheduled for an MRI yesterday evening.  Wes is in our prayers.

The Bishops are digging another early season hole.  ..I didn't see any positives in Springfield...I expected improvement from the Denision game....not a win at Witt, but, I thought I'd see competitive &  hustling football...something is wrong..

From the Sunday paper.....
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers ambushed a second straight opponent.... a 52-0 whitewashing of visiting North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Ohio Wesleyan.
It was the fourth straight win by Wittenberg over Ohio Wesleyan, and the third consecutive shutout in the series.

It was the widest margin of victory in the series, which dates back to 1894, since a 63-0 Wittenberg win in 2003
