Chicago @ Wabash had to play its backup QB had had injuries at RB.

Put it back in the deck.  Chicago isn't the only team playing with significant injuries.  Didn't Wabash's qb get knocked out of that game?  Not to mention the players that were already unavailable.  The trainer's table is not an excuse.

It was a fair response to the assertion that Wabash played a tougher team in their game against Chicago than their game against OWU.  And if Wabash's QB was knocked out of the game, it would make it even harder to determine if they are indeed getting better.

Is CWRU any good or are they a product of their schedule?

We don't know yet.  We're trying to figure that out as well.  But just because a person from CWRU asks a question, doesn't mean you need to fire back with a question about CWRU.

The Tartans are coming off their best rushing performance in school history, as the Cardinal and Gray defeated Hiram College 62-31, Saturday, October 2 to improve to 3-2 overall.  In the victory, the Tartans rushed for a school record 585 yards while setting a school record for total yards, accumulating 679.  The Battling Bishops enter Saturday's contest with a 0-5 record after dropping a 30-6 decision to Chicago this past Saturday.

This info is not encouraging for OWU fan.  Will also give possible insight to OWU-Hiram game later this year.

Got a week off in Scot town. So will be keeping up with games between house work.

Wabash people, been to WashU many times.  As pretty a campus as you will see. The architecture is astounding, a lot of green, manicured open areas.  Beautiful.  Can't remember name, but some very good ice cream.
Early leading candidate for MVP has to be Belton.

If the question is "is Wabash getting better at football", there are a lot of variables that factor into the response other than how or even if Chase Belton is playing.

I think it's fair to ask the same question of CWRU that was just asked of Wabash.  My feeling is that CWRU is probably pretty good, but I couldn't argue too hard against anybody that wanted to say that they aren't.  The 50-burger that Trine left on Sparty's field is a pretty hard piece of evidence to argue against.

I wouldn't put all that much stock into that performance.

My sophomore year at CMU (the worst team I played on while there) we rushed for 500 yards en route to 63 points against Colorado College.  We then scored 63 points combined over the next four weeks.  Racking up big numbers against lowly opponents does not make a quality team.

That said, I think CMU will handle OWU this weekend.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

That was definitely an embarrassing moment for our defense.  I feel like we have a better D this year, but it's always hard to tell for sure.

I agree with you.  My thought was more that this week's game against CMU will give us a glimpse into what we might expect when OWU plays Hiram at the end of the season, since CMU just played Hiram last week.
My contention is that if Hiram beats OWU, then if a change has not happened by then at Selby, a loss to Hiram will guarantee it. BTW, that blurb was from CMU's athletic site.

After reading ExTartan & nike...I feel even worse about today's game.
ETP; With your rushing game in gear...could be a long day for the Bishop D.
nike; Regarding Hiram win over OWU "Guarantee"...I posted weeks ago, &
still think that it will come down to "Ego"....Will "H" want to stick around &

My motive?  To shine a light on the assertion of Wabash's improve and stimulate discussion.  The discussion does indicate some others are uncertain as well.

The statement about Chicago's injuries was to note the Chicago team that week was not as strong as earlier weeks' Chicago team and suggest that they might not have been much stronger than the OWU team that played Wabash earlier.  For that purpose it is a fair card to play.  Not sure about Belton being injured against Chicago, but he was the leading rusher and 11-20 passing.  Is four lost fumbles an improvement?

Discussion of CWRU would be more appropriate on UAA Board, where Bashbackers have had no compunction against (rightly)dissing on CWRU's schedule in the past.  I understand that prior to last week's game Allegheny fans were taunting the Spartans about the schedule as well.  Of course the irony is that the weak teams on the CWRU schedule are the same NCAC teams that Allegheny and Wabash play.

At this point CWRU's schedule is no easier, and with Allegheny, perhaps slightly tougher than Wabash's.  Of course that changes with the LGs facing Wittenberg and DePauw later.

Not to get you Wallys' hopes up, but on another board there was mention that Witenberg is scheduled (tentatively?) to play Huntingdon on 10/8/11, which is the date the Tigers are on the NCAC schedule for a non-conference game with Hiram.  That suggsts that it may be possible by mutual agreement for the NCAC teams to change the non-conference game against an NCAC team.  Do Wittenberg and Wabash still owe Huntingdon a game from the Kenyon defection year 2003?  Perhaps Kenyon would be glad not to play Wabash next year, opening up a week five date.

Chicago's qb that played most of the game against Wabash, Cortina, started against OWU.  His stat line last week was 3-7 for 4 yards and Chicago thrashed OWU.  I don't think the notion that Chicago's team is on par with OWU because the #1 qb was out holds a lot of water.  Chicago is a lot better than OWU no matter who is taking the snaps.

As but a nyara mume (Swahili for "trofee man" which is Afrikaans for "trophy husband"  :D), the obsession for comparative stats and comprehensive insight of conference mechanics by our intellectual cousins of the big cities is quite entertaining.  Dam*, how did I ever survive without such intimate knowledge and digestion of gridiron facts?  ;D

Tongue in cheek, before any undergarments pinch  ;).  Thanks for the entertaining banter this afternoon, guys - beats the hell out of researching embezzled funds and fraudulent invoices, gratis, in 100 degree, scenic Gaborone.
Safe travels to all, good match-ups, minimal injuries, and maybe a radio broadcast stream into my backwater broadband connection.  ::)  WAF and DPU ...well - picture in the works, BashBrother, for the Monon thread.

Oberlin scores on opening drive over CWRU. They look--and I mean it--great. That was impressive.
