If anyone is planning to watch the Miami Dolphins / Chicago Bears game tonight on NFL Network,  you will probably see me working the Dolphin sidelines or hanging with the cheerleaders.

You see I was crazy enough to enter a contest of "What is the craziest thing you would do to watch the game from the sidelines"

I didn't expect to win, but I did.  So here is what I said I would do:

Actual picture of me trying it on.  I have to wear this the entire game (78 degree S. Florida weather).  At least it is a night game.

Look for me tonight.  I was trying to see how I could incorporate some Wabash gear in the ensemble, but I didn't have anything big enough.  ;)

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

That's classic.  Have fun out there tonight!

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Just for the record, BayernFan, there were other issues with the Carlson era which caused the final split...sure the alumni were upset and vocal about the Bell losses...but I heard a conversation between a well respected Wabash individual and someone who was claiming that Wabash fired him because of the losses in the Bell games.  The final comment was, "I cannot say for sure why he was let go but I can assure you it was not because of losing in the Monon Bell game."

But I will confirm there was a great many alumni that were not happy with him and the losses to the Dannies did not help that situation.

With a rivalry that is only separated by 2 wins after 117 games there are not too many coaches on either side that can claim great records in that game:

Wabash coaches from 1946 (being somewhat brief)  to present:

Glen Harmeson: 25-10-6  Monon Bell: 4-1
Garland Frazier: 48-35-6   Monon Bell: 4-4-2
Ken Keuffel: 28-20-5   Monon Bell: 1-5
Max Urick: 11-21-2   Monon Bell: 1-3
Dick Bowman: 14-16-0   Monon Bell: 2-1
Frank Navarro: 26-17-0   Monon Bell: 2-2
Stan Parrish: 42-3-1   Monon Bell: 3-1-1
Greg Carlson: 112-57-2   Monon Bell: 7-10-1
Chris Creighton: 63-15-0   Monon Bell: 5-2
Erik Raeburn: 27-6-0   Monon Bell: 2-1

AU Eagle ... shame.

"In the middle of nowhere?"

C-ville? ... the Athens of the midwest?

FDormer home of "Tommies" ... till it burned down?

The epicenter of Montrgomery County?

The draw is that it is:  Home of the Little Giants !!!

No mention of the late, great Bank Cigar Store, Wabco?  May her ashes rest in pieces, along with the Silver Dollar.

Because of the blow-back from the Men of Wabash....I would like to retract
my statement of "middle of nowhere" to the "Indy-Champaign-Lafayette Triangle",
or "conveniently located off I74 near Linnsburg, Mace Yountsville & Wesley".....
GO TIGERS beat the Polar Bears and the OAC!!!!!

Ahhh,  now you date yourself.  The Rhynes making the Banks Cirgar Store run after study hours.

Thought you guys might enjoy this.  For those "not of Wabash" the Thursday before the Wabash / DePauw game, the students gather for the "Monon Bell Chapel".  He following includes presentations by the 5 senior captains and coach.  What comes out - at least I believe it does - is the answer to why and how Wabash gets its students and football team.  I am always impressed by the pride of our guys and the their uniform (as representatives of the whole school student body) ability to communicate.  Now you also know why DePauw received the 47-0 beatdown.

Well, I have a whole new appreciation for the life of a mascot.  I lost probably 10 lbs and didn't see a thing for 3 hours.  I had to take pictures with abut 300 people as my wife facilitated the lines of kids and hot Miami babes that would form.  It was a trip, met Don Shula.... got on Jumbo Tron numerous times.  Had a Face off with the Burger King dude.   Didn't make it on the NFL broadcast, my review of the game when I got home, they shot it pretty tight.

Anyway...very cool experience.

Additional note:  From what I heard, I couldn't see a thing, I am not disappointed that I didn't see the horrible game going on out on the field.

Other than the fact that I am a rabid Bears fan, I watched this game just to spot the Bashbrother fish on the sidelines! Unfortunately, I didn't see you.  :(I can't believe we have such a celebrity on this board! 8-)

Thanks wabco.
That was amazing.  Now I get it.  Never had that type of comraderie, but most schools don't either.
What I saw is bigger than any one player. That explains the winning tradition.  But someone has to start it.
Will be watching Witt tomorrow. All the best in representing the NCAC!

I am glad that someone else besides me saw this and posted it. I won't even try to hide the fact that I am proud, but I am so proud of them all. The biggest difference between these young men and some of the teams that they face is that they have a love for one another. It gets them through alot of difficult times, on and off the field.

QuoteI'm sure this has been addressed.  Why is Witt a 5 seed, & DePauw is a 3?  Doesn't make since to me.  Sorry if this has been talked about, but I don't get a chance to visit here very often.

QuoteStrength of schedule.  This year's committee decided that the SOS metric that the NCAA uses would be the end-all measure of the teams' relative strength...even to the point of ignoring a regional loss and results against common opponents, which are also primary criteria.  Interestingly enough, Wittenberg's SOS would have been helped out a good deal if that metric would have included their games against WashU and and CMU.  Also interesting to note is that while the committee seemed to rely almost exclusively on that SOS metric even to the point of ignoring an extra loss here and there, they didn't seem to apply that logic to Wabash's Pool C case.  Interesting still, the committee ignored Witt's non-regional games, but absolutely did consider Wabash's non-regional game.  So the application of the criteria was very obviously different for different teams...which I find to be a tremendous disservice to the tournament and the teams involved not just in the bracket but also those teams on the bubble.

Wally, thanks.  I knew you would explain it best.  Really frustrating that the NCAC gets zero respect.  Thanks again!

OK, I never post but I could not resist this time. Bashbrother, it's nice to know if I ever get in a bind with someone to take care of the Wally Wabash mascot, I have a veteran I can call at a moments notice...
