Congrats to the Wabash and other NCAC'ers that were honored on the D3Football All-American Teams.   There is a chance we will get all three of them returning next year....  Throw in the possibility of the #84 other reasons to be optimistic and I think we will be just fine.  Anxious to see what the recruiting class will produce this year.

WAF!

Speaking of the crowd, I asked on the other board, but no one answered and I also could not find it listed in the box score.  Do any of you know what was The Stagg Bowl's "official" listed attendance this weekend? ???

It's listed already on D3.com's playoff page as 4,598 -- though I'm not sure where Pat got that figure.

That was what was announced in the press box.

North Central & Trine played UWW tough....
The problem is they lose 14 & 25 Sr's....

Aueagle, to clarify, NCC has 14 SRs on their two-deeps, but four still have a year of eligibility and I am told that three of the four are strongly considering returning in the fall (with the blessing of their families :)); many played the same position where there is a starter or strong second stringer back in the fall (for example, a SR WR will graduate, but a SO WR got most of the reps at that slot); some were playing, but there (IMO) may be a better player on the roster that got a lot of field time over the past year or two; and the school had excellent recruiting classes in each of the past two years.

The way I look at it, if the three SRs come back for their final year of eligibility, NCC will return starters or "near-starters" in all but two positions on offense and all but three positions on defense.  This is not to say that NCC will not graduate a lot of talent, but the cupboard will not be bare in Naperville.  One other note, I am told that there are at least two DI/JUCO transfers already "lined up" to start in January or August.  These two, I am told, have quite a bit of talent and play positions where there will be key graduation losses.

There's no way the crowd at the Stagg bowl will be the same of the Bell, or a St. John's / St. Thomas game in Collegeville or any other rivalry. The fact is that no one is really a home team and fans have to travel - and many ticket holders aren't rooting for either team.

Not to say it isn't a great atmosphere - it's just a different crowd.

Thanks.  At least this year's Stagg Bowl crowd beat last year's attendance and that is good.  4,598 is a very good crowd for The Stagg.  I agree that it will never reach the attendance levels of The Monon Bell, or St. Johns/St. Thomas or Ithaca/Cortland, etc. for the reasons mentioned.  Yet, here is a thought, and while this will probably never "go", still it might not be a bad idea to try for at least one year - somewhere.  Perhaps they might try having the DII and DIII National Championship games on the same day as they have done in recent years with the NCAA DI, DII, DIII lacrosse championship games.  The DIII game, by "tagging" on to the other(s), gets about 25,000 people.  Might not be as much for football at either of those levels, but, then again, it would be neat to see what happens.  Obviously, though, location has a lot to do with it.  Just a thought.

Last year, Salem and much of the mid-Atlantic/Southeast was buried by snow. West Virginia State Police forced the UW-W band's charter bus to turn around because of road conditions. I think I remember that happening to at least one other team's fan bus.

The crowd last year wasn't small because of a lack-of-interest. Mother Nature kept a lot of fans and locals away.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

This is why I wonder why the Stagg Bowl is played where it is. The weather there in December always seems to be poor. DIII football is played all over the country, couldn't they find a better place to have the championship?

This is a question that has been asked (and discussed) a lot in the past and opens up a much larger discussion for those willing to go down that road. But, IMHO, it's answerable, in part, by how well Salem organizes the event and treats everyone who shows up. The city does the event wonderfully.

Last year's massive snow was an anomaly -- one of those 100-year storms. Typically the weather is great for the average football fan (and downright balmy for those from Wisconsin and northern Ohio) :)

You can have bad weather anywhere...

Just a little recruiting info FWIW.....

OWU requested video on two North Canton Hoover kids recently.  Both would be GREAT additions in Deleware.  A WR & DB.

Got a story for you fellas that I think you'll enjoy...

Stopped at the bank on the way in this morning.  This guy pulls in behind me.  I hold the door for him on the way in.  I'm wearing a DePauw shirt today.  This fella, about my age, is the BIGGEST jerk to me while we're in the bank.  Steals my pen, cuts in line, keeps running into me, slams the door in my face when he leaves, so on and so forth.  So I get back out to the parking lot and this guy has pulled right up behind me.  He's got a Wabash plate on the car.  He rolls the window down, says "Happy Holidays you stupid Dannie MFer", gives me the finger, laughs, and drives away.

I love this rivalry.

QUESTION:  Why would anyone wear a Dannie shirt ... to a bank or ... really ... anywhere?

And the beat goes on

Wes:  I hope you had a Merry Christmas ... and I wish for you a  a happy and prosperous new year.  As for your choice of shirts ... BAD ... BAD ...
