Scot6-

First off, welcome to the board, good to have another Wooster supporter on here.

I know where you're coming from. I've had my own questions about Barnes' decision making and Schmitz's playcalling. That being said, do you really believe his backup would have done any better? Its easy to say that the 2nd stringer should be playing, but who's to say he wouldn't have made the same freshman mistakes that Barnes did? Give the kid some credit, he was thrown into the fire last year. Look at Holter's career; his sophmore year, and a lot of his junior year he made bad mistakes and turned the ball over... he also won us a lot of games over his career. There were a lot of people that thought Parker won the starting nod over Holter, and I know where they're coming from, but you can't question that decision. Barnes is tough to tackle and makes a lot of plays with his feet - it will be very important when they're trying to break in new WRs, and its a killer in our spread-option game. The kid didn't get newcomer of the year for nothing... he's gonna be a player when he puts it together. That does, however, depend on how the offense is run.

Some of the criticism of Schmitz comes from not winning a ring, rightfully so. Wooster's 1st team can match up with anyone in the league most years, but the lack of depth really shows in the losses to Bash and Witt. But you've got to give him credit for what he does with the guys he has... he knows what his system is, and picks the right guys for the spots. I personally questioned his decision to move Flagg to RB full time, turns out that was a pretty good call. I hope the playcalling gets a little more diverse and run-oriented, Wooster's offense can get very predictable and it hurts us. If that's what you mean about Schmitz getting his head right, then I agree... but lets give the man credit where it's due.

Ive also heard that Barnes is highly disliked by players and some coaches alike at Wooster and that the backup QB is actually favored by the players as being the better QB.

Schmitz needs to get his head out of his a**, then Wooster will be fine. On top of that I do not think Wooster can win the NCAC with Barnes as the QB.

You know that your email address is visible, right? It's pretty obvious who you are. You've "heard" that Barnes is disliked by some coaches and players? I assume that you count yourself among that number?

Having a former player posting that his coach needs to get his head out of his a** and that his QB can't win big games probably isn't the greatest way to engender good will or build confidence among your ex-teammates and coaches.  Might want to use a little more tactfulness when talking about your former program...especially if you're still in school there (which I don't know if you are) or if you're planning to seek a recommendation from your coach some day (which you might want to).

Good move to delete your post, Scot6.  Thought better of it, eh?

According to the Indianapolis Star, Westfield High School (in Hamilton County, IN for those not from around here) has hired Wabash D-Coord Jake Gilbert as its head football coach.

Very good for Westfield which has not had a great deal of football success in past years, and a substantial hole to fill for the Little Giants.

Welcome to Westfield, Jake!

I feel pretty confident that Wabash will be able to attract a solid candidate to fill the DC position.

Same is true with receivers coach ... I believe he is on site and working.

I don't like losing him in Crawfordsville, but I have to admit that I am looking forward to seeing what Jake can do to turn the Westfield HS program around.

Wabash College: Our sources tell us Indiana offensive quality control Ryan Larsen accepted the wide receivers job at Wabash College.   We also hear that Wayne State offensive grad assistant Micah Smith accepted the running backs job.

Joe Wally not to worry.  The new Defensive Coordinator and Jake have been friends for many years.  When he replaced Jake once before, the transition was seemless, and the Wabash faithful were more than pleased with the results.  History will repeat itself.

luvncac: That small building by the fence is the starters facility for the NCAA D3 Track & Field Championships
at Selby in May. Will it stay there after the championships? I would think it would be converted to something
useable. There was extensive work done to the training room under the west stands....should be first class
when the work is done. The freshman QB that took most of the snaps is Mason Espinosa out of Tennesse.
Very solid year; threw for 2055 yards Hope he doesn't run into the sophomore jinx.....The 2011 edition of
the Red & Black has only one way to go...up. After another 2-8 record, Bishops fans will look to the,
"Best Freshman Class in 10 Years" and see how after one year under their belt they can do what
Rex Kern and the Super Sophs did for Woody in a time long ago....... Take care luvncac and I bet
you won't see any 4.5 forties anymore!!! GO BISHOPS

Correct on Ruan Larson.  Should be a good add.

My wife (a Dannie) just received her latest DePauw magazine.  I looked through it.  This issue touts and highlights "Academics and Athletics at DePauw."  19 full pages of Dannies and Dannettes all in athletic poses along with laudatory comments.  ALL highlighted ... except ... the greatest football team DePauw ever produced.  This much balyuhooed team - at least until about 2 PM on November 13, 2010 - was relagated to a single 2 3/4 inch by 5 1/4 inch pic of line of scrimmage in a game against Trinity (or at least I believe it must be Trinity ... field pretty torn up and sorry looking but the other team has "Ts" on their helmuts)and a statement under it:  "DePauw started 9-0 last fall and hosted a NCAA postseason game for the first time in school history".  No other reference in entire mag to football or the greatest dePauw team ever .... OR ... their 0 to 47 score which marked their 10th game or the tournament beating.

The beginning of the revision of the history of 2010 ... the 9-0 team.
