Assuming that you had the facilities (i.e. lights) to do it, I think that a night game would be a great idea.  Perhaps not 10 p.m., but a 7:30 start time would be a blast for a game between any two teams in the conference.

The only thing ever worth looking at in Hiram was the view beyond the field or at least since the Browns left.

BTW The same is true in New Concord (Muskingum)

I can't recall exactly when the Browns left, but Hiram had some pretty fair teams in the 80s (ok, I know that was 25-30 years ago).  They were PAC champs and went to the playoffs (ok, they got blown out by Augustana).

Both the Terriers and the Browns have gone to the dogs (or Baltimore) since of course.

ADL70,

Maybe the Browns need to return to Hiram, in order to regain some past glory! ;D ;D

And back to University Circle from Berea!

I've always thought it would be a great event for the conferences (NCAC/OAC) to have a double header football Saturday. This was done by the Mid\American Conference in the mid 70's. To boost attendance, the host site and competing teams would have a travel proximity factor. Of course, Selby would be a great location, facility, and seating capacity. This would be a great recruting tool for all the schools and the conference.

When completed, the Bishops training room facility should be one of the finest GO BATTLING BISHOPS.

"DePauw started 9-0 last fall and hosted a NCAA postseason game for the first time in school history".  No other reference in entire mag to football or the greatest dePauw team ever .... OR ... their 0 to 47 score which marked their 10th game or the tournament beating.

The beginning of the revision of the history of 2010 ... the 9-0 team.

I think that is a good idea/concept as well.  They do it in the MIAC at the Fargo Dome and the MIAA/GLIAC had an arrangement for the same back in the early 1980's for a couple of years.  Alma played Michigan Tech and Wayne State played one of the other GLIAC schools in the Pontiac Silverdome.  It was great.  Not sure how much the rent was back then when the Detroit Lions had that as their home stadium.  I think it was okay for the first year, but the arrangement dropped after the second year due to the rent being a little high.  Still, they had very good turnouts for the games  - at that time, better than those schools had for attendance at their own home stadiums.  Obviously, the venue/lure of playing in the Silverdome back then was also a neat experience for the fans.

Anyway, perhaps some of these conferences might consider doing that for a year or two just for something different.

formerd3db: I forgot about the Alma/Michigan Tech game, but you might remember Slippery Rock played at Michigan Stadium in 1979 & 1980.
Crowds of 60,000 & 30,000 watched Shippensburg & Wayne State play the "Name Famous"
Rockets. From a marketing stand-point, the exposure for the 4 schools and their football programs that
can be gained from a "Double-Header" could be great....and I think D3 fans and others would support it.

I was in Myrtle Beach last week, and was at a sports bar, when I got into it with an East Carolina fan on the Ohio State football problem. We went back & forth on Tressel...the "BIG" business of D1 football...the state of the student-athlete...blah-blah-blah....Then, I thought of D3. I had to look it up, but, in 1970...Wittenberg went 9-0, won the OAC and out-scored teams 360-35 under Hall of Famer Dave Maurer. The Tiger media guide states.."OAC Championship forfeited for ineligible player"...The Ohio Wesleyan guides states "All games forfeited for use of..." Why do I bring all this up? Because it's the end of March and we've got NO football !!!!
Since we all know the football staffs/administration/players  read this board....
Selby can host the OWU/COW and Denison/Kenyon double-header...Get student/frats/sorority  participation with rivalry "games'...Free dogs & cokes...Day game-nite game...rock band halftime...I think I better go work on my golf game......

I was at one of those games. Not sure which one. My dad worked for the U at the time and we lived in Ypsilanti.

As I recall the ineligible player "forgot" to register for classes.

In 1984 Wabash played Taylor in what was then called the Hoosier Dome.

I agree, friend.  My question is...do you think they can actually attract near 10,000 fans to fill it?  It would be kind of "not good" to have a huge stadium only 1/3 full (Selby?? ;D been there!!).  Still, I like the project and hope it does go to fruition.

You and I were there and didn't even know it "way back then"! ;D

Yes, I remember that Slippery Rock game - that was when U of Mich had their Band Day's!  Also, don't forget that Grand Valley State and Michigan Tech just played at U of Mich this decade in front of 52,000 fans when Michigan had an away game.  That was awesome and the year that Michigan Tech tied for the GLIAC title right after they saved the program from being dropped.

Good point and I hear ya, formerd3db....MHB had 6 home games in 2010....
Game average - fannies in the stands was 3533. The big game versus Hardin Simmons
drew 7704. Could it be a push to D2 or the Texas High School play-offs? Anyway...big bucks...
big stadium.....better win....

firstdown

Texas high school teams in Plano and Southlake Carroll play regular season games before 30,000 fans.  Austin Westlake has a very nice stadium with a big Diamondvision screen for replays.
