Absolutely excellent post and right on the "$" for all aspects (no pun intended).  Also, your story of that former OWU president reminds me of the president of Swarthmore who orchestrated that debacle as well as Robert Hutchins of the University of Chicago back in 1939 when he essentially single-handedly killed their football program at the time.  There are many words/abjectives to describe all three of these presidents, which are so fitting, yet diplomacy and "decorum prohibits me/us from stating those here", other than to say that the absolute simple truth is that they were very, very misguided with that philosophy and anyone who says otherwise is not being truthful to themselves and "hasn't got the sense that God gave geese". ;D (a prize to anyone who can tell me the correct answer as to what movie that line was in and who said it and to whom ;D :D ::) :P - second prize goes to whoever can name the movie that the first quote or pharaphrase came from ;D)

I say....On Golden Pond.....I just like Fonda...But, I did look it up...and I was wrong.
Animal House...that was easy....
I have no word on Bishop recruits...and I was in Delaware last month.
Maybe the other OWU posters have intel on the 2nd best recruiting class in 11 years.....

Yes, you got the easy one.  You are on the right track for the second quote, although you have to go back further in years.  Hint...1962, historical movie based on a true happending, American and British stars. BTW, I hope you are referring to Henry and not Jane.  One of my favorites of his was his very first 1930 Drums Along the Mohawk and then, of course, Once Upon A Time in the West was great, aside from the movie you mention OGP.  He was one of my favorites also, but not her.  She should have a criminal record, but doesn't, but since we're not supposed to discuss such issues here, I'll leave it at that! ;) :o ;D :P

I was at Hope College last evening at the lacrosse game under the lights (awesome venue at our new stadium), however, did not see any of the football coaches, so like you regarding OWU, I have no current info regarding football recruits.  I should be able to find out in the near future, though.

On recruiting front for Wabash, ER keeps that info a little closser to his vest than did CC ... but do know that there were 77 footballers among those attending Honor Scholars

Wes has worked very hard in his rehab and is working towards re-establishing himself on the track. I am confident that by seasons end, he will be running times like he was last year. I couldn't be more proud of his effort.  8-)

Not sure why this hasn't been announced yet but Wabash DC left to take the head job at Westfield H.S.  The new Defensive Coordinator will be Wabash grad - BJ Hammer (previously head coach at Whittier in Cali).  I love the hire and think BJ will be an excellent addition.  The announcement should be soon.

Best of luck to Coach Gilbert!

Great news on the Chamblee front!  I hear he looks like a rock too.  Regarding the Wabash WR crew next year - Chamblee will be a huge addition along with Horn's return and some of the younger guys with talent.  Additionally, Mike Skinner (Andrean H.S.) enrolled in school mid-year and will be 100% ready to go.

Glad to hear Skinner has recovered. Hope the kid tears it up.

Fantastic to see #84 running strong in the 400.  I wonder if he'll switch to the honorific #1 jersey. Might be a good idea- the opposing defensive co-ordinators won't know who he is- for the first couple of games, anyway. I looked up some other results on that track meet. (DePauw ended up 8th in its own invitational) I did spy a remarkable trio of triple jumpers- our entire backfield! Chase Belton finished 10th, Vann Hunt 12th and Jonathon Koop 15th. Koop must be working on improving his form on the punt block team-just leap into the kicker's face from 40 feet away.
Wonderful it will be to see BJ Hammer back in the fold. He did a fine job at Whittier with Greg Carlson and on his own. Hard to visualize a man named BJ Hammer coaching a team named "the Poets"- with a great football name he deserved something nastier.

Will the D now "put the old Hammer down"?  Brings a whole new group of phrases:  PJ/BJ ... the "Hammer Man".  Just "use a bigger Hammer".  "Hammer it home".  and best olf all:  "We have the Hammer ... We Have the Bell"  .......... 47  -  0

For seven years, Coach Hammer and his brother Blair Hammer were stallwarts on the defensive line for Wabash.  In 2000, the one year that they overlapped, the had 20 quarterback sacks between the two of them.  They both ended their playing careers tied with 27 1/2 quarterback sacks each.  Whatever phrase you want to use Wabco is fine.  Coach Hammer and the Wabash defense are going to be fun to watch.
