So DePauw isn't playing for a league championship or an automatic slot in the playoffs...no conference awards, just three home dates...it's the pits basically.  But there is one thing that those kids are playing for and sometime between now and Week 11, we Wabash folks are going to have put 47-0 in the rearview and understand that the 2011 Tigers have just one tangible thing to play for this fall.  Always respect the team that has nothing to lose, and DePauw is going to be that team this fall.  I expect ER will have the team focused and ready when the time comes.

Think all DePauw can do is sit back and hope the LGs show up at Blackstock at 9-0.  That seems to be the kiss of death in this rivalry as of late.

The Wabash web site has some pretty neat pics of the finishing stages of the Wabash soccer field (foootball to some) ... complete with name logo.  Next ... the real football practice field next to it will be constructed.  t is gettikng closer.

While the numbers seem small, it may be a tad bit early for panic at the Lord & Yeoman.

Hey, I've been gone for a while, but I heard this explosion down south? What happened?? Did a Stormy Petrel raise some havoc??  :D

Smeds-Keith McM has a piece on d3.com and ths SCAC board has been going at it hammer and tongs for a couple of weeks now. For all the pixels expended, it still doesn't answer your question- Why? Lots of air, though.
To comment on the Lords/Yeoman situation, I seem to recall that Oberlin was in  the same boat last year-roster in the low 50's, small recruiting class- but played some great games-hung tough with Wooster, and Witt. Their only blow out was against Bash

+k for the whitewash splash, Smed.  :D

Wonder if the "ogling birds" will lay a pigskin clutch in Brookhaven MARTA station after decades of assumed extinction ala the Emorrhoids a few klicks down the road?  Only a year ago, there was a better chance of Agnes Scott fielding a gridiron offering before the other west Dekalb institutions...  ;D

my buddy, who is a wide receiver on the team here at Denison, has a blog about the "life of a D3 athlete" where he sheds light on his experience as a D3 athlete at denison and jokes around about it here and there...hes a pretty good writer...you can check out his blog here:

enjoy!

I don't expect the Eagles to have a team  on the gridiron anytime too soon.  Emory benefits greatly from the very generous donations from the Candler and Woodruff families (Coca Cola if you're not from Atlanta).  They aren't big fans of football.  So I wouldn't expect to see a team playing on the Quad anytime soon.

I'm not sure a three time zone D-III conference ever made sense in the first place.  Was the SCAC going to be sustainable forever?  I can't believe so.  It didn't take RHIT all that long to realize that it wasn't a sensible place for them.  DePauw held out a lot longer, perhaps due to pride, but I think that move back to a northerly conference was always inevitable.  Colorado College had to cut the program and certainly travel expense was one factor there (travel would have been an issue for Colorado College's football team no matter what...they are on a D-III island over there).  Hendrix has been in a holding pattern as far as adding football is concerned and certainly travel expense probably plays a factor in why that program hasn't come along yet.  The bottom line is, well, the bottom line.  Those schools that broke off did so for the savings and they were able to do so without sacrificing their automatic access to the postseason.  That's a no brainer from my perspective.  It stinks for Austin and Trinity, but I don't think that those schools that went their own way can operate their institutions based on what's best for Austin and Trinity.

Remember that Oberlin had the ball with a chance to win late in the fourth quarter against Wittenberg.  It shouldn't surprise me anymore, but it's always amazing to see what Jeff Ramsey does with his limited roster at Oberlin.

Also worth noting....DePauw is officially a member of the NCAC starting today (obviously with the football team participating fully in 2012).  Welcome aboard...I'm glad you guys are here.

The niceities stop there.   :)

Wally   I believe the SCAC DePauw experience was begun under a prior administration who had some sort of "world view" for DePauw in which the cost of travel etc. was discounted.  Obviously it was significant ... as was the sactifice the athletes had to make in balancing their educational requirements/needs with the time required away ... just in travel.  The present administration is more level headed (at least on this subject) and saw the results of RHIT as well as the budget impact of continuing the experiment.  Good leadership required a reassessment.  NCAC fits for a whole host of economic, scholarship, and general student participation (whether a fan or athlete) and student recruitment.  In my view ... a good choice for DePauw and for the rest of the NCAC and the demise of the SCAC was ltimatley inevitable in any event ... the seeds of tis destruction was in the vast geography and asking the students to be students at the same time.

So ... Dannies ... welcome back.  AND:  47-0

With Kenyon having a young roster and only loosing 8 seniors from last years team they will be ok.  They shouldn't end the season with a goose egg in wins again.

DPU3619

Thanks for having us.  This is great, guys.

If only we would have had the forethought to not have to punt an entire football season.

Pat Coleman

Well, honestly, the NCAC is more to blame than DePauw here. This is a quite unusual transition schedule.
