Question for Fun:

If Depauw was a part of NCAC Football this year,  where do they fall in this poll.  (3rd or 4th?)

I'd say it'd be fourth.  I don't think any coach could give them a first place vote, could they?  You'd have to do so based only on last year's results and the coaching staff with all those new faces in the skill positions, honestly.

All teams have their 2011 previews up...except OWU
and I couldn't find an "official" preview for Oberlin
(though they have a very good site).....
The final roster (at camp) for the Bishops should be interesting.....
The real number of soph's back and how many out of state frosh will say much.....

I don't see the Wabash 2011 preview?   Am I missing it on their website?
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

I would have to say DePauw is no worse than third in any poll. If they played this year.

bashbrother: I count intel as it relates to the 2011 season. LG website states "17 starters back from an 8-2 season"
It didn't expand to much, yet, gave enough foreshadowing.
Of course, I have to just keep re-reading the Bishops preview of the 2010 season.
This is what I read on the LG's......

I think they're behind Wooster and ahead of Gheny, barely. Maybe 4th, possibly 5th.

That's not much of a preview. A preview is supposed to name the 17 returnees and where they are going to fit. Brent Harris says they are installing a whole new glittery system by 18 Aug that will blow all our socks off. Fingers are crossed.

Here's this from the home office in Greencastle:

QuoteDePauw President Brian W. Casey announced today that Page Cotton, the University's director of athletics and recreational sports and former head soccer coach, will now serve as a Senior Adviser to President Casey, where he will lead efforts to raise funds for investments in DePauw's athletics programs and facilities.

I don't really know what that means other than it's an added title so he can do things with people about stuff.

Saw that on the twitter last night...thought it was an odd announcement.  Do AD's generally NOT help out with fundraising for athletics facilities and programs?

Anyway, kids should be showing up and camps underway next week, right?  Hooray, football.   :)

Just checked the cover of the 1966 Wheaton / Wabash football program.  It is Coach Ken Keuffel with co-captains Rich Chilausky and Tom Werner.  That was back in the good ole single wing days.  By the by ... we beat the Dannies that year as well.  And Little Giant Stadium was then called Ingalls Field.  (Don't know who Mr. Ingalls is/was.)  Coach had a Phd in English and taught in the English department as well.  In fact he wrote a book on the wisdom and functioning of the single wing (do not remember its title). The line coach was Dean Norman Moore.

According to today's Greencastle Banner Graphic....this is a promotion of sorts for Page, probably one that will focus entirely on fundraising...i.e. for building a new Lilly Center, football field, etc...
He will continue serving as Athletic Director until his replacement is found after a nationwide coaching search...here is the link http://www.bannergraphic.com/story/1752288.html

Page has done a good job at DePauw, and the school's track record of success over the past 20 years, especially in women's sports is in large part to his credit.

Dannie comrades...any speculation on who might be a potential replacement?

Ken Keuffel was THE MAN when it came to the single wing.   He died back in 2006. He was a Princeton graduate and coached back here in NJ at Lawrenceville School for what seemed to be about 100 years.  I used his book Winning Single Wing Football when I coached. Its still available online from Amazon. I bought it directly from him. He sold it out of his house. When I called to order it, his wife answered the phone and then put him on and he graciously gave me about 1/2 hour of advice on using the single wing with 8th graders. A very nice man and someone who really understood the football/education connection. I had forgotten that he coached at Wabash. A great guy to have as part of your school's history.

Disagree on Page.......glad he is gone.  They need some progressive thinking in that role.  No reason why the facilities suck, etc.  I struggle with his ability to raise money.  I hope I am wrong.  Don't know if this was in the release, but Lacrosse was added as a full-time men and women's sport.  I think that starts in '12.  Not posting anymore, but wanted to ring in on this.  I will watch DPU from afar this year.  Would like to go to more than one home game, but there are only three.  Nice job on that front Page.  Old Gold is a soccer game.  Ha.  Will be there for Monon.
DePauw will be OK this year.  I like Schweir at QB.  He will provide a dimension that DePauw hasn't had in the 4 yrs Thomas played - mobility.  I guess they are spreading it out and running the spread.  Backfield will be fine.  I understand they got a transfer from a D1 program who is legit.  Receiving corps will be decent, but a drop off from years past.  Line returns 2 starters.  Lewis Brown is a stud and beats people up.  But, there is zero depth in this area.  I hope they bring in some freshman who can play.  Defense will be interesting.  LBs may be very good.  They have some kids who can play.  DBs will be OK.  They return 2 kids that can play.  Others have experience, but not sure they are ready to be starters.  D-line, like the O-Line has no depth.  Really, really like Fultz.  After that, not much to talk about.  Schedule works in their favor except for lack of home games.  Good luck Tigers.

Car is packed. 10 hours to Granville. Football season is here! My son's big adventure is about to begin. I can tell he's pretty nervous about what's in store for him. I believe he will do just fine. His mother is preparing to cry and I'm sure four years from now today will seem like it was only two weeks ago. I can't believe that the kid who was born two months early and so small that I could hold him in the palm of my hand is a 6' 3" 275lb. man. Talk about time flying. Here's to four years of spirited competition in the NCAC. Hopefully I'll get the chance to meet some of the denizens of this board at a game or two. I look forward to it.
