Hiram is a very solid school....in a country setting, but very close to Kent (Kent State) and Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown. The ratio is about 55% woman/45% men.
The young lady will have an outstanding education from HC.

I totally agree, gentlemen. Unfortunately, I was able to read the interview with Wes (great copy) and my connection disappeared. everything else works fine on the rest of the website except the entry into Kickoff. arrgghh!!!!!

All I can think of is maybe clear your login cookie? There could be a problem there. Do you know how to clear an individual cookie without erasing your other remembered passwords on other sites?

Fellas,

Made my annual trek to C-ville for an early look at the 2011 Little Giants.  I didn't have a ton of juicy scoop but did have some comments that I thought you'd like to read.  Here's some quick hitters for you.

- about 140 guys, one of the bigger rosters I can remember
- a very different coaching staff but one that seemed very cohesive and energetic.  I am biased but it was great seeing BJ Hammer on the D side and equally cool to see Matt Kraft (dude could still play FOR SURE!).  I think both of those guys will relate extremely well to the players and kids will love playing for them.
- generally speaking - guys look really, really good physically.  All of the notables seemed to be in great shape.  Guys that stood out...Gum and Scola at ILB's are flat out scary.  Scola is a lot bigger and was flying around - I look for him to have a huge year alongside CJ.  Kelley is a huge target at 6'5 226 and looked great.  Krause and Hildebrand made some good catches in traffic and looked very fast.  As a whole, our WR's look very, very strong.  Not even mentioning a guy named Horn and a guy named Chamblee ;)  How do you cover them all?  O-line looked huge and so much more intact than last year.  Daniels and Kitley are massive.  (there were others but those guys jumped out)
-  can you say Hodges and Hodges?
-3 RB's seemed to stand out:  Holmes, Rowe, and Hunt.  All 3 are very different and all looked like they had burst.  Hunt had a couple of very impressive runs and looks to have the ability to make guys miss in the open field.  Holmes looked like a freak and Rowe had burst.
- Chase looked like the guy on O but Burke and Walsh looked good as well.
- Newcomer:  keep an eye on a kid named Gibson  from Mooresville - a soph, we have to get him on the field somewhere

All in all, I definitely like what I saw.  Great energy and the guys were getting after it.  It's early.

I can't wait!

So the Kickoff 2011 calls for Wabash to lose to Wittenberg.... par for this year's preseason course. (NCAC)  It must be because of the graduation on our defense.   Our offense is going to score like mad this year and our defense is going to give up a few points.

That is really my preliminary key to this entire season  can we score more than we give up in big games???.....We shall see.  On defense,  I know we have CJ and some experience around him,  but it is still going to be a unit that will be developing over the year.  Sam Smith loss was tough.

BashBacker #1-- an excellent prognosis! At 650 miles from C-ville I appreciate your effort. With young Mr Gibson in the mix, maybe we could convert the offense into 5 wide receivers at a time. Even 6, except someone has to throw the passes.
With CJ and Scola looking good and both having inside LB size, has there been any talk about playing a 3-4? I would think there would be some talent for outside- maybe an oversize DB or one of the running backs or even QBs down in the depth chart. It happened  a few years ago, I can't remember the QBs name-but he did exceedingly well for 2 years. with Roomes, Andy Dieg and Adi

If it makes you feel better, they are mentioned positively in Kickoff's Beyond the top 25. Or so I hear.

Not feeling bad about it.   I accept it.   The Champion is the Champion until they are defeated.

Both Wabash and Wittenberg are proud programs that have plenty of talent on the sidelines waiting for their shot and thus,  the drop off is never as great as one would think.   Witt's talented skill players will overcome some of their deficiencies in other areas early on.

Looks like Wabash and Witt have potent offenses and should both light it up.
Pre-season NCAC coaches polls have rankled the Bash faithful, but the D3 Football polls have apparently mollified
the Bash outrage over the coaches' opinions.
I suppose if there were more of a Witt presence on this board, they would express similar outrage over the D3 Football national poll....
After all, those one or two points really mean something.....??????
Let's be glad both programs garner national recognition in the pre-season, and build from there

All that matters is the game on the field, not what the pundits, coaches, or even fans think.

Wally Wabash -   Are you heading up the pick-ems again this year?

As always.... let me know if you should need any help this year.

I saw just a few minutes of the Wooster - John Carroll scrimmage yesterday.  It is my understanding we have only about 30 freshmen in the program, for the second consecutive year.  However, the Scot Center construction is coming along nicely, and with sod going in, I expect that the band and team will be able to enter the field via the (now less steep) hill next Thursday night.

Pick 'Ems are coming for sure.  Wooster kicks off next Thursday, everybody else (except Wabash...grumble) plays next Saturday.  I'll get the games up on the board this evening.

Nice new look to the boards. Snappy, modern.

After a meeting with the NCAC Pick 'Em™ Executive Committee, it has been decided that all DePauw University games will be on the board for 2011.  Their team may be orphaned for a year, but their games will have a pick 'em home.
