I have confidnce in our coaches working to get what they wanted to explore ... out of a scrimmage.  The advnantage of Wheaton is that they are good and well coached.  The advantage od Wabash is that they are good and well coached.  Suspect the best you take from tne scrimmage is game condition tests on individuals and schemes and find out where work needs to be focused.  I, for one, wish Wheaton a great season and look forward to playing them again in the playoffs ... when it WILL count.

I'm sure there's a ton of confidence in that locker room despite whatever happened yesterday. There always is confidence when you think you're going to be a pretty good football team.  It's always good to get in that playbook and figure out what works and what doesn't with specific personnel in a scrimmage situation against a contender.  Everything in the playbook works against bad teams.

I kinda like when you show up and play in a scrimmage and get knocked around a little bit.  Those experienced guys may need a little reality check.  Give ER a chance to pull out the old "you can't just show up and go through the motions and expect to win" speech.

Well stated, and echoing earlier sentiments, sincerely hope no players were dinged up.  There's an old adage (can't recall the exact quote - personal brain flatulence) which implies those actions and activities which made you successful in the past won't necessarily guarantee future successes without adjustment.  Aren't "friendlies" designed for controlled, learning opportunities and assessment rather than a focus on the scoreboard?

Regardless, eager anticipation for the upcoming opener at Papp confident that WAF!

Game week...finally!  There is a key NCAC game in Wooster and then a trophy game in Delaware.  That skull is awesome.  What's OWU going to think when they see that Capital game film? That Witt offense looked like a video game most of the time vs. Capital.

Also happening this weekend...we'll see what kind of shape Allegheny is in.  They certainly did not inspire much confidence in game 1.  Will be rooting hard for Denison to slap Earlham around just because.  Then you've got Kenyon/Hiram...probably the best chance either of these teams have to win this year.

Anyone got a picture of this skull?

Great question.  Apparently the original skull was given a proper burial back in '89 according to this article:  http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/s/content/oh/story/sports/college/wittenberg/2007/10/24/sns102507spwittfbnotes.html

I never saw the original nor the modern replacement.  (Going 0-4 against Witt during my career didn't help, either).

I think somebody got a shot of it on the board last year. I'd have to go back through the archives to find it.

I tried the search feature and didn't find any photos. Alas. Maybe someone can get a shot of it this week.

I actually found a photo last week of what looks to be the original skull in the Springfield News-Sun archives. I will scan it in and post it later. It's kind of scary looking.

Congrats on Witt for getting win number 700. I didn't see any mention of it on ESPN or nationally though, so that's a little disappointing. But then again if its not an SEC school, ESPN doesn't show much coverage.....

Also, Ben Zoeller did break Ryan Holmes' single game passing yardage record from 2004. Probably the most surprising thing is that one question mark of the Witt offense was their new offensive line. Well, unless Capital is just not that good, they got absolutely no pressure on the Zoeller and with two top notch receivers, if you dont' get pressure on the passer you're toast.

Actually, I'm surprised ESPN didn't pimp the Longhorn Network more...

Oh, and as a public service, I must announce I saw where Sexy Rexy Grossman is the starting QB in Washington. Adjust your NFL pick 'ems, fantasy, and point spread guesseses accordingly (wherever you are.)

They tried but nobody's network is showing it. I'm 70 miles south of TLN headquarters and only one cable provider here has it. If a BCS conference collapses on a TV network and nobody is watching, does it make a sound?

Anyone near a TV...please turn on the Miami / Maryland game. I shall refrain from complaining about the "blood clot" Wabash all-red for one appearance after viewing the disaster that Maryland is wearing today. Hoo-boy....

congrats to wittenberg, I had originally had that pinned in on my schedule to go too. However I came up with tickets to the western michigan-michigan game so I went there instead. Just how bad was it in Springfield? I still haven't dried out from ann arbor. If you think what you saw on tv was bad you should have seen what rolled through within an  hour after the game was called. When I returned home saturday night(it was raining so hard I could barely see about 10 miles north of Toledo) I found it interesting the Wiitenberg game had been put on hold. I guess a big difference there and a game that has a 24 point spread and michigan was ready to score again. Western looked like they wanted to quit before the last delay. Would love to hear more of what it was like at Wittenberg. Would love to see how it compared to where I was at.

They look like THESE guys. Maryland is clearly going to be to UnderArmour what Oregon is to The Swoosh.
