We mentioned the stats earlier...you can get a look at the stats in the old style (both team and individual) at this link:

Pat/Witt Fans, please help me understand this one:

D3football.com has this week's Witt vs. Huntington game marked as being "in region."
http://d3football.com/teams/Wittenberg/2011/index

How so by any criteria? Not in same NCAA D3 football region, NCAA administrative region, conference, and definately not within 200 miles of each other?

Ohio and Alabama are in administrative region 3, hence a regional game.  Ohio and Alabama are in the same region, Indiana and Missouri are not.  It makes perfect sense.

However, in the grand scheme, at least in football, I'm pretty convinced after last year's selection process that an in-division but out-of-region result isn't viewed any differently than an in-region result.  There just aren't enough games to throw away one or two results and still be able to adequately differentiate teams on the table for at-large selection.  It would be less frustrating if the NCAA would just say as much in their football handbook instead of treating football like every other sport, which it clearly isn't.

And while I'm riffing on Pool C-ish things, one other thing that has changed is that the NCAA is reducing the number of regional rankings from four to two (plus the double secret ranking at the end that nobody gets to see).  So when it comes to results vs. regionally ranked opponents, the once ranked always ranked rule still holds, but this year that list of teams that might have been ranked at one point is going to be a lot shorter.

You know, we should have discussed a quite interesting game.

Macalaester (2-3) vs. Hiram (1-4) at Elmhurst, IL.

Now, the matchup makes sense. Mac backed out of the MIAC which has allowed them to start building a program and schedule competitive games. Hiram is a perfect opponent for them, and a win by the Terriers will help the NCAC profile a skosh.

The most interesting thing is that the game is in Elmhurst, IL. It does seem reasonable as the halfway point between both schools, but this is quite unusual. And I wonder if the dozens that attend outside the stat crew and chain gang will be rooting for anyone in particular?

I wrote a letter to the Bachelor about the use of "Wabash Always Fights."  It's included in this weeks edition.  Since several readers here go to all the games, it would be great if you would take a moment to read.

The CMU Tartans hold an all-time series advantage over Ohio Wesleyan, 6-2.  The Bishops only victories came in 1962 and 1963.  Since then, Carnegie Mellon has won five straight, including last year's 35-23 victory in Delaware.
Time for the Bishops to save this season....they need a win tonight.
