Wittenberg blocks a FG, but the Hawks moved the ball well against them. Witt now with their second possession in the 2nd half.

Witt is going to need some ice on their trip home.....
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

The SCAC is going to have to be re-evaluated now. BSC beat Huntingdon in OT (rivalry game).

Huntingdon now up 38-13 in the 4th. Going to be a l-o-n-g ride back to Ohio for the Tigers.

"Second best QB in the NCAC" just threw an INT for the Tigers...

Only one score by the Witt offense today.  That may be a bigger surprise than the Witt D giving up 38 points.

Make that two scores by the Witt offense --- TD run by the backup QB with 2 minutes to go --- score now 38-20.
Long shall we sing thy praises, Old Wabash

That Witt/Huntingdon result is only surprising if you're not aware of how Witt plays on the road.  They've had close calls against teams that have no business sniffing a meaningful fourth quarter with them (Allegheny and Oberlin last year, WashU and OWU this year) and against good teams they catch a beatin' (ONU last year, Huntingdon this year).  There's something about the road that these Tigers just don't get down with.

CWRU is also all over Oberlin 30-7 right before halftime.  The guys on the CWRU vid feed said Oberlin had "about 30" players dressed tonight.  That's just entirely too difficult to navigate 10 games with under 40 players.

Clearly, Witt seems different on the road, but man... I don't think the tigers are beating that team in Springfield, either. The problem wasn't the bus ride, the hotel, or the lack of fans. The problem was a faster, bigger, more athletic team. More specifically, the problem was Trevor Manuel. Holy Christ, man. That guy is good.

Who and what is Trevor Manuel?  BashDad - fill us in?

Was at Bash today, bitter sweet with the Scola injury but hope he's ok.  He and CJ are sick when they are both in together.  This Bash D is nasty - very fun to watch.

the Huntingdon Hawks executed the perfect strategy in stopping Zoeller and the Witt offense.   Bash must get a hold of that tape and study it.

1.  Tremendous Pressure and Hits on Zoeller (he was battered)

2.   Being physical with their big receivers not letting them get clean starts off the line....

3.  Not letting them set-up the play action with the any kind of running game.

Perfect execution.

Manuel was the main Huntingdon RB. But I was impressed by their entire offense.

Kind of a grinder at the Hollett today.  Washington, as usual, was well prepared and played very well on defense.  The Bears had the LG offense spinning its wheels for quite a bit of the day.  Kudos to the Bears there....but it's hard to win any game when you can't score.  The Hard Hats were dominant on first and second downs today and every time Washington was in 3rd and long, Coach Hammer dialed up a big time blitz which never gave Burkett time to throw downfield.  The Bears did adjust in the second half to shorter routes in these situations, but just couldn't string enough conversions together to get to the end zone.

Key play of the game today, I think came in the third quarter.  WashU had forced Wabash to punt, but roughed the punter and refreshed the downs.  Wabash scored five plays later to extend the lead to 17-3.  Every Washington drive after that point ended with the Bears turning the ball over on downs, twice iinside the Wabash 25 where field goals may have otherwise been available.  Critical error for Washington and a critical score off of that error for Wabash.

Can't say enough good things about Wes Chamblee.  Another stellar punt return for a score today and 84 had another long return come back due to a penalty on the opposite side of the field.  He's as good as ever on the punt return.  Haven't seen much of him on kick returns because Wabash isn't allowing teams to kickoff very often (I think Wabash has only had eight chances for kick returns this year).

As noted, the defense was nasty again today.  Washington found a little bit of success between the hashes in the second half, but anything to the edge was dead.  That's a really good, aggressive unit and they are fun to watch.  Can't finish a wrap-up post without mentioning my man, Houston Hodges.  HH had a big fumble recovery today.  The kid makes a big play every single week.  You can count on it.

Wabash gets back to league action next week at depleted Oberlin.  Keep on keepin' on, LGs.  WAF!
