Quote from: wally_wabash on October 16, 2011, 08:21:32 PMWhere this line of thinking gets interesting this year is with McMurry.  If you're going to give them credit for beating UTSA, then you can't just ignore the fact that they gave up 80 to another DI team.  Those results either both have to count or neither can count.  They will be an interesting case on Selection Sunday.

As a UTSA season ticket holder I can safely say that UTSA stinks. There are a number of D3 teams that would beat them. UTSA's two wins have been at home over a 3-5 NAIA team and a 4-3 D2 team. I don't think giving up 80 to SFA is negated at all by the win over UTSA. Especially since SFA is putrid as well. SFA has not won a game since beating McMurry. Just my $0.02.

Wabash moves up solely because Kean was over-rated to begin with, and it showed. I can't think of why Thomas More is up there - they should be switched with Illinois Wesleyan. Wabash is probably about where it should be.

Li'l Giant, I would 'love' to see a Florida Atlantic / UTSA game...er....pillow fight. FAU is heinous on offense and has to lead the country in idiotic 15-yard penalties.

Smeds and LG:
At least they (FAU) have a beautiful new 30,000 seat bowl type stadium (with a huge press box similar to Michigan State) to play in now and which was dedicated yesterday (check it out on their athletic website). Does that count for something?? ;D :o ::) :D :)

That new stadium is about 5 miles from my house...look forward to getting out there,......would have gone yesterday, but got caught up with some family stuff......  you can get in to see the games for as little as $15....  great lower seat for around $80.....  now they just need to get a team.

I'm going to see a couple of FAU games for sure. Need to see just how thin the line is between the lower echelons of D-1A and D-3.

After watching UTSA this year I think you'll find that line is wafer thin:

I'll go ahead and guess that the team hadn't seen that one on tape beforehand.  Yeesh.

I've seen similar plays before, but not with the snap going that wide. On 2-point conversions you have to be ready for anything.

The Oberlin broadcast I was listening to gave no indication this play was anything other than a regular pass play for a 2 point conversion. I had no idea it was that crazy of a play.

Which is why I almost went to Oberlin to major in music. :)

Eight of the 10 (counting DPU) NCAC teams are in action this week. Hiram and Allegheny take a break. As for the rest of 'em:

DePauw (1-4) @ Ohio Wesleyan (1-5) : The angst and woe from both fan bases is palpable. Both teams have struggled on offense, and last week was downright ugly on defense for both squads. Whoever wants to lose the least will win this game.

Denison (2-1, 3-4) @ Wabash (3-0, 6-0) : The Big Red have lost two winnable games in a row, and now they face an angry Wabash squad that probably had an *interesting* week of practice after seeing the Yeomen come back within a score in the fourth quarter. Denison may be lucky to get out of C'ville alive.

Washington U. (3-3) @ Oberlin (2-4) : If the Yeomen played like they did against Wabash, they should walk away with the win. Wash U. has talent, and unlike Oberlin, numbers. That may make a difference in the game in the fourth quarter.

Case Western Reserve (5-1) @ Wooster (2-4)
: The Scots are reeling after two disappointing losses in a row. Unfortunately, they face a CWRU squad that needs to polish a resume to be in contention for a "B" or a "C". It could be a long day in Wooster.

Carnegie - Mellon (4-2) @ Wittenberg (5-1)
: Unfortunately, the Tartans don't face the Tigers in Pittsburgh. Witt's homecoming crowd will fire up the Tigers. I don't see C-M staying with Witt in this one.

Kenyon (0-6) @ Chicago (4-2) - We know what the key to stopping the Maroons is: make sure the Brizzolara doesn't get the ball. Well, Kenyon won't be able to rush the passer, and that means time for Brizzolara to get open. Plus, the Lords will probably have to punt quite a bit. This game could get ugly quickly, unless the conditions slow down Chicago.

Pretty much agreed w/above, smed.

Denison has fallen back to Earth after the surprising win over Wooster and looks about like a normal Denison team.  'Bash by a lot.

WashU-Oberlin is intriguing (actually, pretty much any game with Oberlin is intriguing) because Oberlin has the talent to play with decent teams, but just doesn't have the depth to go 60 minutes against a quality opponent.  For UAA pride, I hope that WashU takes this game very seriously.

CWRU's record makes them look a lot better than they are, IMHO, although that opening Q over John Carroll looks better every week.  Even so, they ought to beat a "Flagging" Wooster team (pardon the pun).

CMU has rolled off three straight wins against the dregs of the NCAC.  CMU did give Witt a tough game last year in Pittsburgh, but I'm starting to think that was a function of Witt's terrible home/road split.  Witt by 21.

Chicago will beat Kenyon, nothing else to say there.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...
