You have been very kind to Wes over the years on this board as have many of the other folks here. I would love to meet you all and thanks for the kind words about Wes!

Like Bash Backer 16, I had the priviledge of watching both Wabash - Wittenberg games in 2002.  The OT win in Springfield was a thriller.  The play-off game in C'ville was a well. I seem to recall some snow on the ground that day, but don't remember being cold from the excitement. Tomorrow should be a great game as well.  WAF!

Bashbacker, I think this Facebook post by one of the Witt players sums it up: "What is my legacy? How will I be remembered? All or nothing on Saturday. Either I'm walking away a champion or nothing at all."
As for that 2002 game, any chance someone could put it on YouTube? I'm hoping over the years more old D3 highlights will show up on line. For example, someone recently posted Wittenberg's 2000 highlight reel to YouTube. I had typed the name of Casey Donaldson, the great Witt RB, about a thousand times over the years and had never even seen a highlight of him until I saw that 2000 video, which was the year before I started covering the Tigers.

BD84 & BB16:

From someone who has been following 'Bash since the Navarro Days, I would have to agree with you that the way we are ending the season now is very exciting.  It gives a playoff atmosphere to the end of the season no matter what happens down the road.  Football at Wabash is obviously VERY important.  What other school has 150 or so great kids show up at pre-season camp out of a total enrollment of 850?  Look at our attendance figures.  This is one of the great stories in all of football!  I am glad to share the board with guys like you (and the others!!) as well as the other dedicated posters from the NCAC schools.  Keep firing away!!

WAF!!

I agree with everything above.  My only complaint about the Tiger "doubleheader" is that it makes me unproductive at the office for two consecutive weeks now!

The post did get me thinking about another great season-ending run by the Little Giants.  In 1982, on the way to a 10-0 season (and a playoff snub), the last four games were Wabash victories over Wheaton (41-36), Dayton (then a D-III powerhouse, 14-13), Illinois Wesleyan (37-34) and then DPU (31-6).   While the CCIW teams weren't at the top of their game that season and I am sure that there may be other notable streaks by other Wabash teams, in retrospect that was quite a stretch of football.

Yes indeed, 1982 was quite a year.  Brings to mind Dave Broecker and his heroics in the Dayton game.  Does anyone here remember the quarterback wedged in between Dave Harvey and Dave Broecker?  1978...  He was one of two pretty decent QB recruits in that frosh class if memory serves.  Trivia time...

86: Was it Brian Metallic?

As far as Keith's take, unlike the earlier 'upset' post, this wouldn't be an "OMG!" upset, more of a "Wabash didin't take care of business against their NCAC arch-enemy" upset.

Ding, ding, ding!!!  We have a winner!  Brian Metallic- whatever became of him??  The other QB recruit that year some kid named Metzelaars...

ALL DAY LONG!!!   I don't think Fincham is programmed as a coach to kick it away from anyone (which I respect btw),  so #84 and LG return team will get their chances.

I actually bought my first house in Zionsville from his brother back in 1996. I think he transferred to Purdue, but that I'm not 100% on.

The Witt/Wabash affair has reached the point where either team winning is not really a surprise. It's a rivalry game. Technically it would be an upset but kind of not.

Not just the sleep thing, but I'm basically useless here at the office today. Not sure why I bothered at all.

Interesting tidbit, smedindy...

Let us all hope that Wabash stays singularly focused from here on out, works hard and executes our gameplan superbly!!!

That's all I have to say about that...  except...
