Honest question:  do you think NCC recruited Wabash DL Pat Clegg (Chicago kid) or no?  He may not have been CCIW-worthy.  Ha.

Clarendon Hills is in Chicago? That's news to me.

hmmmm. I think I have been pretty clear where my rooting interests are rooted. For the record, I support Wheaton and more broadly the CCIW. That said, I would selfishly like nothing better than for Wabash to hand NCC's  head back to them on a platter Saturday. I just don't rationally think that is going to happen. But I have been around football long enough to know irrational outcomes sometimes occur. My goal has only ever been to present information for debate. Love the debate on here.

I posted the Swider comment because there are many poster's/lurkers that don't read the front page. I am sure that's far less true for NCAC followers than most boards but that is my experience. And Swider's comments were relevant to both simply because he is one of the few coaches out there who has seen both teams this year. I can also assure you it would NOT break Swider's heart if Wabash won on Saturday. His comment's are definitely not pro NCC. So his comments are from a guy who has seen Mt Union live many times, Wabash every year, and NCC regularly on tape and live. He know's the least about the Little Giants than he does the other two. The only take away from that (if I am a LG fan) is, if we can beat NCC Saturday, we should feel pretty good about our ability to compete in Alliance as he clearly thinks NCC is talented at a Mt Union level.

Right on Usee....   I hadn't had my med's yet this morning, when I read your post.   The nice staff here at the facility even let me walk the grounds a bit today and thus am feeling much better.    ;)

Onward and Upward.....   Are we ready for some Football?.... uuummmm.... YES!

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

It's a good thing we can talk about final scores on the boards before the game...oh...wait...  ???
Also, I think Usee's head is going to explode when he reads this post.

He is too busy feeding little "Cardinal" lunch!!

Wonder if he's feeding him Wheaties? That seems to have been the Cardinals' food of choice the last few years. It is the Breakfast of Champions  ;D

Ouch. That one was rough.

Little Cardinal is going get his Uncle Mugsy soon. Or possibly call his Uncle Andy from Kansas City to come regulate this mess. Haha

"Wheaties"...  ARRGGHHH!!!   >:( >:( >:(

Good to see Usee posting. After that post about Usee in his NCC pajamas, I was afraid that he had a heart attack.

I'm surprised that you're not familiar with Usee. Before he re-created his account, he had thousands of posts to his credit. I don't always agree with him, but I have great respect for him. Usee is the best analyst on all of D-3 Football. He may have blue and orange in his blood, but he's not a homer. His evaluates his team fairly against their competition each week. He knows details about most team, including Wabash, that goes beyond just a casual fan.

Like I said, I just had not had my med's yet..... ;)  of course I have seen him around.  For various reasons this morning,  I got confused as to his team loyalty.   It truly seems the CCIW is a very proud conference and their fans are extremely supportive, of course there are fun comments here and there.  I think that is very cool.   You guys know your football, you may be a bit heavy on stats, but you know football.
Cheers!

I will support that based on past posts.  The sway of the scarlet and grey in Crawfordsville, IN blinds a few folks on this board.

bashbrother, I think the CCIW posters DO have more overall conference pride than just about any other board I've been on (which, one time or another, is all of them!).  The current members have been together for (I'd have to check for sure, but I believe) over forty years.  We have our sibling fights, but woe unto the outsider who disses one of us! 8-)

When I was a student at IWU (leather helmet and peach basket days :P), Millikin was our hated rival (and, unlike now, they were GOOD in fball and bball, both).  I was shocked at my reaction when their women's bball team won the national title a few years ago - I broke out a bottle of champagne! :o  (Time mellows [almost] all of us. ;))

What kind of crowd do you guys expect this weekend? I do know that NCC hasn't played in front of anything like a Wabash fan section at full strength!

Usee,  Wheaton Thunder & CCIW Supporter  ;),  Here is a historical look at recent Wabash HOME playoff attendance......Hey, I am using a statistic!   ;)

2002 - Round 1 - MacMurray College vs. Wabash College - Attendance: 2770

2002 -  Round 2 -  Wittenberg Univ. vs. Wabash College -  Attendance: 2892

2005 -  Round 1  -  Albion vs. Wabash College  -  Attendance: 1336

2005 -  Round 2 -   Capital Univ. vs. Wabash College - Attendance: 1585

2007 -  Round 1 -   Mount St. Joseph vs. Wabash - Attendance: 1493

2011 -  Round 1 -  Illinois College vs. Wabash - Attendance: 1359

I cannot explain the anomaly during the 2002 playoff run,  maybe someone else can; it would interesting to get a take on it (1st playoff appearance in awhile?),  but I do know is this game on Saturday deserves a big crowd,  I hope that fans of these two proud programs turn out and support this game.  I would assume that with Thanksgiving falling in between the 1st a 2nd rounds, that much of the student population is out.... I also assume that the Monon Bell Game and all of the energy around it creates somewhat of a hangover from a fan support stand point.

Again, this game and these teams deserve a big crowd!

Play Ball!

Nice post and I agree with you.  You would think that after the great, huge crowds that Wabash had during this regular season for most of its games, the fans would turn out the same for the playoffs, although as you say, perhaps the pre-weekend to Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving weekend has some downturn affect on that for obvious reasons.  Regardless, yes, I hope you guys have a huge crowd there this weekend.  Best wishes for a great game.  Happy Thanksgiving to you and the rest of the board here.

Bashbro - a couple of points to make on the 2002 crowds:  it was the first year Wabash had made the playoffs since the 1977 Stagg Bowl team so the excitement was at a peak (which had been building in the CC-era) - especially after a 10-0 season with Knott, Short, Boulais, & Co.  They other thing that may have helped was the Bell game was at home that year, Wabash left all of the temporary bleachers/seating in the stadium.  It is pretty cool when we leave temporary seating up for a playoff run - it may just help add to the excitement (not sure).

I think Thanksgiving most definitely hurts attendance - especially from the student standpoint.  There won't be any fraternity pledge classes on the track, skeleton crew of the Sphinx club, etc.  There will be a handful there but most stay home with their families and enjoy break.  I also wonder if its not a little of the Atlanta Braves-thing where playoffs are pretty common.  This time of year, in general, where a lot of people have plans, travel, holiday season, etc.  Heck - Wally Wabash won't even be there Saturday!   :o

My feeling is there will be a decent crowd Saturday but nothing like a Homecoming or a Bell game.  I also think the playoff crowds are a different group (the most hard core fans) which helps off set the numbers a bit.

I'm guessing NCC will have a walk through/practice at the stadium tomorrow...  Bash likely wrapped up the week this morning.
