Mr. Ypsi:

Well, I agree with you about that U of Mich/Alabama game.  However, I will also say, that unlike you, I have seen it occur at the DIII level and on at least two occasions (possibly three), one of which was a Hope/Albion game about 4-5 years ago. Aside from the U of Mich/Alabama game you mention, that was the worst ever I've seen and the officials simply "didn't give a rip".  They knew they were wrong (and about some other egregious things going on such as trash talking with the most foul language on the part of Albion right in front of little kids) and the officials did it to spite the Hope coaching staff, who were obviously (and legitimately) complaining about it.  It was so outrageous, it was pathetic and were it not that I'm a Hope alum player, it would have been laughable in the non-serious sense.  Like you with the U of Mich/Alabama game, I would have almost signed an affidavit that the refs were paid off (by Albion). :o :P :)  Anyway, my point is/was, that, unfortunately, it does happen, yet, I agree with you that for the most part, officials should be appreciated for what they do because it is simply a tough job (but someone has to do it ;)).  The majority of the officials are good people.

And that's my last comments on the subject! Good night to all. :)

I cannot believe the no-live stream decision.

Wabash's football broadcasts have all been well done. Hometown Sports is a professional outfit and the Wabash TV folks have learned from them. The announcers sound better than some of the clowns on ESPN.

There are many Wabash alums who are clamoring for a live stream but can't get to Alliance due to logistical reasons. We've got a wide footprint in the USA (and abroad) and they're the ones that tune in every week.

It's the 2010's. Not having their games live on-line is a Wirtz-ian decision.

I doubt anyone is going to boo at a memorial over this decision. . . .

Much has been made, rightfully so, of the return of Coach Raeburn to Mt Union this Saturday.  Eric's play there, coaching there, and the regional and family connection are truly special.  Also returning to his alma mater will be Steve Rogers, Wabash special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach.  When Raeburn came to Wabash, he brought Rogers with him.  They were teammates at Mt Union.  Everyone who watches Wabash football, or knows much about it, recognizes how special Rogers's Special Teams have been--blocked kicks, returns, kick coverage, etc.  Rogers was an All-OAC defensive back in 1992, and that year was second in interceptions and third in tackles on the team from his safety position.  In 1993 he served as a student assistant coach for wide receivers.  Mt Union won its first National Championship that year.  Like Raeburn, Rogers is an exceptional coach and human being.  I'm sure he is thrilled to be returning "Home."  (P.S.:  I am not related to him!)

Yes, I am quite sure that this will be quite a "reunion" for ER and Coach Rogers.  I am sure he would like to show his uncle how much he has learned by tagging an 'L' onto UMU.  We will see how that goes.  Is it Saturday yet?!

Comment all you want but it won't happen unless the NCAA or D3Football does it.  I am a Mount Union Alum living in FL and thus don't get to see any games.  I emailed the SID a couple of years ago about it and got the standard answer about the games being broadcast-delayed on local TV.  Unfortunately it is not going to happen.

For what it's worth, I don't believe there are any rules prohibiting Wabash from doing a video broadcast of the game. The NCAA controls those rights and they are there for the asking.

No worries this Saturday.........

Wabash beat  Wittenberg 28 - 17
Wittenberg beat  Capital 45 - 28
Capital beat  Baldwin-Wallace 14 - 11
Baldwin-Wallace is better than  Mt Union because Baldwin-Wallace beat Wilmington OH 75 - 0
while Mt Union only beat Wilmington OH 66 - 7

I've got to admit, I feel a lot better about our chances now!  8-)

Not to rain on your parade,

Wabash played Wooster and won 19-7
Wooster played Baldwin Wallace and lost 0-23
Mount played BW and won 25-20

I know your passing and rushing stats are more impressive however those were against ONLY two teams that had winning records in the reg season (Witt 8-2 and Washington 6-4). The teams you played had a combine record of 44-55. (The powerhouse team of Hiram is not included in those numbers  :o

It may not be a wood shed moment but close. Starting QB maybe back after 4 weeks. Top receiver is back.
Make sure everyone stays seated until the rige comes to a complete stop.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

According to some folks in-the-know, the possibility of getting Wabash's whole production over to Alliance is INCREDIBLY cost prohibitive.  This has been looked into, but Hometown is doing some other games, and getting a crew, equipment, and the internet connection would cost more than a student's tuition for a year.  Looks like we have no choice but to watch the live stats and try to picture Chamblee running really really fast.
Did Wabash win?  Probably.  Did Wabash fight?  Always.

Well, no. But there were other factors in that boo-fest.

RaiderBacker, I think you missed the tongue-in-cheek nature of Bash-Dad's comment.  None of the veteran fans on this board would seriously use a five-degrees-of-separation approach like that.

(For grins, a couple years ago someone had like a 31-game-daisy-chain that could prove one of the top Division III teams, perhaps Wesley or UMHB, was better than one of the major Division I powers at the time like USC or LSU).

You're absolutely right that Wabash has not played sterling conference competition; again, no one is flouting those statistics as proof that 'Bash will completely shut down UMU.  However, even against subpar competition, they show that the strength of Wabash's team lies on defense.

Furthermore, the "competition" card doesn't really hold up by this point; everybody had to win TWO playoff games to get here, and 'Bash did just beat a VERY good NCC team that romped through the tough CCIW this year.  By this point, everybody still standing has earned their spot.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

The Wabash production certainly sets the bar high but I am sure fans would understand a slimmed-down version.

As long as it doesn't slink to the level of the Chicago - Kenyon broadcast I tried to see - then I'll take anything!

Minimal snark here...this is a serious question.  How do you feel about the fact that UMU won't put a live video stream out there for you, and UMU fans around the country like yourself, so that they can force a few extra locals to spend a few bucks at the gate?  In 2011, where video streams of D3 games have become so abundant, I'd be irked that the leader of the pack isn't doing this for their alums and fans.  You don't need 5 cameras and spiffy graphics and replays and all of that...I've watched plenty of quality streams that use a single camera.  With today's technology, doing just that much is almost trivial.

But until then, everybody who can't make it to Alliance this weekend will have to party like it's 2003 with an audio stream and live stats.
