Mr. Ypsi:

smeds is right.  There was no push.  The player made a deliberate lunge (it was actually as flying leap) at trying to block the punt (again, a called play by Head Coach Dantonio), however, he ill-timed his leap, missing the punt (actually the ball was well on its way off the Wisconsin punter's foot when he had started his leap) and thereby crashing into his thigh.  This did twist the punter, although as I and others mentioned, the punter did do some theatrical playing as he went down and hit the ground.  The replay clearly shows an intentional lunge by Michigan State's player and I know inside really close sources who confirm it was Dantonio's call.  So it was not a bad flag whatsoever, but rather the correct call by the official.  Had he not thrown the flag, it would not only have been egregious, but disingenous and simply the wrong call. So whoever wrote the columns or blurbs you read are wrong.  The bottom line/lesson learned is two-fold here:  1) don't call for a risky attempt at blocking the punt when you have a potent offense and plenty of time left to either score a TD or kick the winning field goal and moreover 2) in a punting situation, don't touch the kicker period. :o ;)

So far I STILL have not seen the play, so I take your word for it.

Besides, UM got the BCS bid; why the hell would I stick up for MSU?! 8-)

Also, congrats to the Wabash and NCAC guys making All-Region.

How frustrating is it to know that the North Region Defensive Player of the Year (Nick Driskill) is from Indiana who played at Southwood High School - the same school that produced the Wilhelm brothers in the early-mid 90's at Wabash.  Then, to add salt in the wound, he is a freaking Biology major!!  UGH.

Yeah, that stuff needs to not happen. I realize guys go to colleges for different reasons and some guys want to get a bit of distance between themselves and their hometowns (Exhibit A being myself). And obviously the opportunity to play for national championships year in and year out at Mount Union was strong. But it would be great for Wabash to have serious lockdown on guys of his quality from Indiana.

Well, I would offer that even with a Driskill falling out of their grasp, they recruit better than almost every university in Indiana.
Even better than IU.

Deep playoff runs and showing that the gap between Wabash and a team like Mount Union is closing is going to help.  I expect this is going to be a good winter/spring for Wabash football.

That, too.   :)

Amen to that, brother!!

Wabash appears to be shining brightly right now.  Also, our vociferous domination of this board should be required reading for our recruits!   8-)

Will the 2012 game be at Hanover or Wabash?
According to the NCAC brain-trust...the game would have to be
one of the first two Saturdays in September....And just to get
myself ready for the off-season...The LG's will play 4 teams with
red & white next season....all quiet in Delaware.

Man ... hard to buy anything off the Dannie website.  Had to keep chanting 92-7 .  Website said only 300 ... could be a typical Dannie lie ... or else typical Dannie stupidity to only have 300.  (Either way ... typical)

At the MU/Wabash tailgate before the game, learned there was a fund being started to help DePauw keep Coach Robbie at Dannie-land forever.  OH - YEAH

How many days until we kick their behinds ... AGAIN

1837Tigers

Well, Wabash and DePauw collaborate on the DVD and there are only 300 (150 per school), which is about as many as we can sell (and is the smallest run you can get for a replicated disc).  So if we're stupid, we're both stupid.  Equally.  But it's a nice project (started by DePauw in a year where we lost the game - 2001), and I commend my W colleagues for working with us to make it happen each year.

smedindy

I do think it is a nice momento. Some years the market won't bear a big run, some  years I would think a nice run would be warranted. Sure beats hand copying them in the media center!

Yes, and DVD-R's go bad after 5-7 years... these are replicated (pressed using a glass master, just like the movies you buy at Target) and should last a lifetime, which is why we don't opt for the "hand copy" option.  Neither school is making a profit on this, I promise (it is barely break even), and Amidon and I put in some serious compressed work to get the job done every year, all in the name of bolstering this rivalry.  It's a great marketing tool, and moreover, I believe, great for those who love the series.
