Do they always do this? It's interesting, because there's always summer melt, and training camp melt, and the 'wow this D-3 stuff is pretty hard' melt and 'my girlfriend is going to Tic Tock Tech and I'm outta here' melt...

I'm pretty certain there has been a similar article the past 3-4 years, possible more, around mid-June. The relatively  consistent timing of release may suggest a correlation to required freshman deposits; however, historically the list is not totally accurate as not all those named report to camp. Regardless of accuracy I have found myself checking for the article as a tease that the season is a little closer.

Very sad news to report from Wabash Nation...  Evan Sobecki passed away this weekend from a car accident. I believe the accident was late Saturday night.  Evan was an unbelievable person, hard nosed, talented football player with a very strong family.  Evan graduated from Wabash in 2010 after a standout career at Penn High (class of '06) near South Bend.

My favorite game he played for us was when he rumbled for big numbers against Case Western in the playoffs.  He tore his ACL in high school otherwise Wabash would have never landed him.  He battled the knee throughout his career.

RIP #6 - you will be missed!  Many prayers and thoughts to the Sobecki family!

I heard that over the weekend. Heart breaks for him and his family. Had the chance to meet him briefly and know some friends of his. Neat young man who will be missed.

Our prayers are with his family.....

So sad...praying for his family, especially his parents.

I met Evan a couple of times during my radio days. He was incredibly nice to me, even though I was a DePauw kid coming to interview him during Bell week. So sorry to hear about this.

The horrible news aside, Lindy's released their rankings.  Witt & Wabash fall at 20 & 21, respectively.  I think that's a little low considering Franklin is at 8 and Centre is at 12.  Wabash will have to replace some big contributors, but I think they're better than that.  I also wonder how you rank Witt ahead of Wabash after Week 10 last year.

Evan's obituary:  http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/southbendtribune/obituary.aspx?n=evan-d-sobecki&pid=158147445&fhid=8597  I heard Coach Creighton is on his way to South Bend for the services.  I'm sure if Coach Raeburn can make it he will be there as well along with a strong Wabash contingent.

Yes, for as long as I remember, the Springfield paper does an article on the Witt recruiting class.  I like to see what they have coming in but agree it can be a bit off by the time camp rolls around.

Bash has 68 frosh in the class.  I wonder if any of them can play?   ;D  I'd say yes...

Reading his obit underscores how insignificant so much of what we get excited about really is. I love the game and everything it represents. But at the end of the day it is about kids like Evan. Tough to understand why kids with some much energy, entusiasm and promise get swept away from us. I defer to the Man.

I was really sad to hear about Evan's death. While these things are always tragic I can't help but be more sad for the loss of a life so young. His family and friends are in our family's prayers.

With Teams reporting in about a month for camp,  I can't help but to begin to think about the upcoming season.

ER's 5th season coming up,  his recruiting classes are starting to mature and from what I hear, another impressive class is inbound.

ER is 39 - 7 (.847)  in his first four (4) seasons.... not bad.

Last year was amazing, what will this year bring?

We have a few holes to fill,  but look for this defense to be fast & strong, again.   Scola will be a monster this year and the Hodges Bros. will keep the corners locked.

On offense,  Belton will be ready and will put together a complete season behind center.   The line will be fine with Kitley and Co. and the receiving core will again be loaded.

Wabash's schedule seems decent, with the Witt and Depauw games not being back to back for the 1st time in 3 years.  The 10/13 trip to Wash U, after an emotional Witt game the week before is a potential pitfall.  The Bears can surprise at home.

Overall, the road games seem favorable -   Hanover,  Denison,  Witt, Wash U, OWU

Home Schedule -  Gheny,  C Mellon, Wooster, Oberlin, Depauw (Will the Tigers be able to keep the Bell Game within 30 this year?)
