Holy Guacamole. MUU, in the past week, has lost Piloto and Murray. They're both gone.

That's significant. No doubt the Raiders will reload somewhat, but man... Neal Seaman better come to play, otherwise we could see Mount drop, for the first time in forever, a couple games.

BashDad

Why is this not on the front page of D3football.com? What are we doing here, fellas? I gotta read the OAC board for news?

Someone get some source quotes! I want answers!

BashDad

I love the spin that's already happening on the OAC board, too. What's losing a 1,700 yd, 20 TD RB? We could be BETTER!

We're moving a safety to RB! Seaman has won EVERY game he's started! Hooray!

wally_wabash

Not just a safety...the national defensive player of the year.  It's a little shocking that they would be thin enough at RB to even consider moving Driskill to the other side of the ball.  If there's any team that can plug and play like that and still be great, it's Mount Union.  Hopefully Wabash can put that depth to the test again in December.

I sincerely doubt Driskill will be playing any RB unless it's an absolute emergency (like moving Shorts back to QB deep in the playoffs).  I mentioned the quote because I thought it was interesting that LK would even bring it up.  They'll be fine at RB as is.

The truth of the matter is exactly what hscoach said.  Murray was a good D3 RB.  Steady, but not a game changer.  It's a very short list of MUC #1 RB's the last probably 15 yrs that averaged less than 6 ypc.  In fact, the list has about 2 or 3 people on it including Murray.  My point is that damn near anyone they've run out there would have rushed for 1700 yds in 15 games given that many carries.  However, Murray still deserves great credit because he was steady, he was durable and he was a workhorse.  Wasn't flashy, but he was effective.  Obviously I'd prefer to have him, but this is not a huge blow IMO.

Just my $0.02

And +k to Wally for the preview.  That was a good read!

Reading that Piloto story on the OAC board is nuts. I wonder how often something like that happens.

Rare, but it does unfortunately occur.  As I mentioned in a post there, a somewhat tangent aspect occured for Olivet College back in the early 1990's when someone "dropped the ball" there in regards to a player's eligibility and Olivet lost it's co-championship in football with Albion that year (actually, as I recall, the NCAA also had a hand in this mistake, yet still forced Olivet to vacate/forfeit their share of the MIAA football title).  I just am baffled that these type of situations would occur.

I have a sneaking feeling that Mt. Union will get by, somehow. And I bet Mt. Union's compliance will get a tad more stringent going forward.

That being said, I do think they're not going to be an automatic 9-0, 10-0 this year. They may get there, of course, but we may have to seriously think about upset potential.

Of course, Mt. Union could also go balls-out on defense and allow something like -125 yards per game.

Well, thank god he's gone then. Y'all caught a break.

Mount Union at Franklin to kick off the season.  I know the tailgating will be crazy! Hope the game is a good one. Does losing these two guys have an impact for the 1st game of the season more so than later?

That question is probably best left to the good folks over on the OAC board, but personal opinion is "not very likely."  Along same vein, one wonders how much (if any) of this information found its way toward Seneca County a few weeks back - just askin' as the timing seems quite fortuitous.   ;)

No....Pilato was NOT going to be in the mix for the starting QB spot.  The Murray loss could have some short term impact, but Mount has proven over time that it is a reload program, and it's always "next man up".
