Happy for Coach Srnka getting his first win at DePauw.  Not sure what to make of WashU, but a win is a win is a win.  Pleased with Justin Murray today - 22/31 for 213.

Might be trying to turn a corner here.  There's a couple more winnable games on the schedule.

Changed my username, since I didn't think it was necessary to be that official anymore.  I changed it when I was writing for the site, but everybody knows who I am by now anyway...

Let's break it down.  Wabash was much better this week.  Sweet.

Now it's Witt Week.  Assess.

I watched the Witt game today against Case...Witt did not look like Witt

The Case defense may have had something to do with that.

They absolutely have to get rid of the announcer at OWU for Bishop football games.  He is making me look forward to Tim McCarver's broadcasts of the World Series this fall.

Another nice W for the Bishops, keep the train rolling boys!

The color guy did not seem to be bad, but you could barely hear him. It was like they had one mike to share between the two, and it was in front of the announcer. I whish there was a radio broadcast to listen to so I could turn him down.

DadofBashWarrior..

I keep wondering why...If Belton could produce that type of play against CMU...what was holding us back from doing some of that running in the Allegheny game...Was it Belton?...was it the coaching?...it certainly was not the wind...

There are games that are won or lost on a single play...or better said...they come down to a single play...But that Allegheny game just keeps staying with me about all the questions it produced in me about what we were doing...

In my heart of hearts...frankly I think it was not Belton...but really not having the players coached up and prepared with the right game plan and making the adjustments...

There is no question we saw CMU handling us...but...the coaches figured it out and made the adjustments and the strength of our team showed up...

So glad for that win...When CMU put up 21 quick points in the 1st...I have not seen that by anyone against Wabash...

Witt will be ready...They are so well coached and always ready for Wabash...I hope for another GREAT Game with Witt...

How much different do we feel today than we did last Sunday...as Wabash fans?  Wow.  After a little bit of a rocky start it was great to see Bash play ball!  As the game went on they just wore CMU down and physically pounded them all day long.  Our O line played well and Chase (and our backs) looked great.  Belton's numbers were just flat out sick... 7 TD's (4 in the air, 3 running) and 20 carries for 198.  CMU's D is pretty good too I thought - they have some guys that can play especially the LB - and they just couldn't stop Chase & Co.  GREAT GAME!!!  The Bash D made adjustments and by the 2nd half made them earn every yard.  Buresh back in the lineup was huge and he, Scola, and Akinribade are playmakers.  Clegg is also starting to come on which is great to see.  Again, as the day wore on, Bash just physically beat CMU up...  (I hope the CMU player they took off on a stretcher is ok - anyone know about him?)

The atmosphere was TOP NOTCH yesterday as our crowd was just shy of 5,100 - the tailgating was STRONG (just a notch below a Monon Bell type atmosphere).  It's interesting to note that I follow a few NAIA teams (personally I cannot stand NAIA - especially when they think they are so much above DIII ball) and one of the teams I follow had an attendance of 962.  Gross.

Lastly, I want to thank the Sphinx Club for doing a KILLER job yesterday from the very start of the game!  They were totally in to it and I think it really kept the crowd in to the game.  On 3rd downs it was very loud - how Hollett should be and typically always is.  They even brought back some of the classic cheers/chants ("Free beer in the endzone!").  Anyway, after my critical comments last week on them - I want to say thanks and their efforts are greatly appreciated!

It's Witt week fellas!!!!  Can't wait until Saturday and expect another classic.

One more thing...  Tyler Holmes is a beast!  We walked the sideline in the 2nd half yesterday and seeing him up close, he's a load at 225...great to see him rolling.

I'd be curious to hear any of the CMU fans takes on the game and on the Wabash team and atmosphere........??

Uncle Rico - you out there??   ;D

Good stuff, 16.  It definitely is an interesting change from seven days ago.  The team obviously did a great job of putting Allegheny in the rearview and giving a strong, focused effort yesterday.  That goes double for Chase, who responded the way you like to see senior captains respond after a bad game.

Holmes had 98 yards on 10 carries.  I'd guess he has more than 10 touches this Saturday in Springfield given his production in his first two games back.

I thought CMU was a really good team.  They really opened strong and had Wabash's defense on their heels to start there.  Their RB Blanks was very good.  The QB Kalkstein made some really good throws into some really small windows.  I think that team has a good chance to get to 9-1 and maybe be a playoff team.

Saturday is going to be big time.  Wabash is in must-win mode.  Witt needs this one to have a chance to run the table and win the league's AQ.  This has turned into one of the best series in the region and for good reason.  Two great programs that consistently deliver great games.

You know....this is the 10th anniversary of Wabash going into Springfield, on Witt's homecoming, and walking out with the win that elevated Wabash's program.  It happens to be homecoming at Witt this weekend.  Imagine that.  WAF!

10 years since that 2002 game, man, that is crazy how fast time flies...  As we have all said multiple times, that game is still one of the best games I have ever seen in-person at any level.  I remember it like it was yesterday:

Randoms from 10 years ago:
- After a pick 6 by the Witt D, Wabash trailed 14-0
- Knott to Summers for 6!  Wasn't it for 86 yards - down the Wabash sideline...
- I lost a filling on a tooth eating a cheeseburger at half HAHA
- I remember the Bash crowd and how loud they were in the 2nd half (we were on the Bash sideline and it was awesome).  I honestly think there were more Wabash fans there.
- Jake Knott turning to us late in the game and saying; "Do you realize what we are about to do?"
- 1st play for Bash in OT, Jake Knott for 6 yards on a QB draw
- Big stop by Boulais on a 3rd down...
- Mark Server's winning kick
- I remember the look on the Witt fans' faces like "holy crap who are these dudes" - even the chain gang was making comments about the game they were playing...

Final Score:  Wabash 46, Wittenberg 43.

wally_wabash

Yeah, that game was just incredible.  Grove had a huge run on Witt's first possession down to the 1, then punched it in on the next play.  Then the pick 6 to get down 14-0 right off the bat.  That was probably the last time I remember a first quarter blitzkrieg against Wabash like CMU did yesterday.  Maybe the 2008 Bell game counts there too.  But then the great comeback by Wabash to go way ahead.  Then Witt had a great comeback to force the OT.  Those were two really, really good teams.  And I agree...best game I've seen in person.

Fun stats from that game...
- Knott had 373 and 3 TDs
- Short caught 2 TDs
- Summers had 101 yards and the long TD you mentioned
- Morris ran for 2 TDs
- Cornett for Witt threw for 367 and 3 TDs
- Over 1000 yards of total offense in the game
