Is it just me,  or does it seem like there is a greater number of one loss teams in the Top 25 for this time in the season.  More parity in D3 Football?  Scheduling?

You're on the mark; at this point in the season, there are definitely a good number more one-loss teams than usual in the poll. Heck, even the Top 10 has half of its team with a blemish. There have never been that many one-loss teams so high up the ladder.

Scheduling is a big part of it. Most of the teams with a loss got there because they were beaten by a nonconference opponent (Wesley alone dealt three of those teams their "L.") Frankly, I'm happy to see this kind of balance on the field. If nothing else, it's fun for the fans.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Agreed -    Outside of the Buffalo State/UWW,  Wabash/Allegheny and Wheaton/Albion  results, (maybe even the North Central / LaCrosse)...   It is pretty much all about the Top 25 beating up on each other... (also a couple Non-Div III opponents)

Wesley has to have a ridiculous strength of schedule right now.

Great football weekend wrapped up with a Colts win yesterday!

More later on Bash/Witt post game...

firstdown

Wabash - Witt on Saturday was quite a game and was capped off with a bit of old time football - a long drive on the ground by Wabash consumming over 9 minutes to run out the clock at the end.  As the clock ticked and Wabash kept on rolling up first downs on the ground, Witt's fans and players were  shocked when they realized what was happening.  It really was a drive from a different era of football - a real leather helmet moment.

The offensive line has a lot of younger players, but they really performed well all day, particularly on that Drive.  Chase did a great job leading the offense. The defense, which also has a lot of younger players, really stepped up as well, and made a number of big plays.

With younger players, as Coach Bryant often said, you will get some mistakes, and there were a few.  As Coach Raeburn said in his remarks with Brent last week, a big games comes down to a few key plays and being able to step and make them.  Wabash did so on Saturday when it counted with a good team effort.  WAF!

Just out of curiousity, has any NCAC quarterback ever won more games than Chase Belton?
He has really had a stellar career at Wabash.

I believe Matt Hudson won 26 games as a starting quarterback for Wabash (8 in 2007, 10 in 2008, 8 in 2009).  Jake Knott won 31 career starts, but five of those came in 1999 just before Wabash joined the league...so you can pick the number there that you like best.  Russ Harbaugh won somewhere between 22 and 24 starts as a starter.  I can't remember which, if any, game(s) he didn't start in 2004...I'll go back and pull up some boxscores to confirm that number.

I'm efforting a couple of non-Wabash names that might have career win totals north of 25 or so.
I'll update the post when I get that figured out.

- I'm counting 28 career wins as a starter for Justin Schafer at Wooster from 2003-2006.

- I have 27 wins for TJ Salopek at Allegheny (2007-2010).

I have to think there would be a Witt QB or two with 20+ wins.

What about Creighton...he played at Kenyon...

Also...
I want to congratulate the Wabash Team and Coaches...I could not be at the game nor could I be online and watch the video as I was at my HS 40th reunion football game at the time...I was able to get the live stats...and I kept saying during that long drive at the end...how much time ...how much time....IT WAS AWESOME!!!

Allegheny had a pretty strong run in the 80's and 90's. Creighton's Kenyon squads were pretty blah overall (they were 5-4-1 when he won POY in 1989).

My best friend graduated from Kenyon in 1988. Don't know if he remembered Creighton, since no one went to football games (he played rugby). I do remember a local Kenyon co-ed fraternity that specialized in weed and hacky-sack, and I wonder what CC felt about them?

Paul Bell of Allegheny was a three-year NCAC first-team QB in 1992, 1993 and 1994 and Gheny won 27 games in those three seasons. I don't think he started any games in 1991, when the Gators went 11-1.

From 1987-90, Jeff Fikovsky was QB at Allegheny during a stretch when they won 36 games. He was a four-year letterwinner and was named to the NCAC All-Decade team for that era. Not sure if he started his freshman year, when the team won nine games, but if we started sophomore through senior years, he'd have 27 wins on his resume.

This is just looking at the record books. Some of the folks from that time frame will surely be able to fill in the blanks better.

Thanks Smed...just assumed that if he was POY they must have been good back then...

Man oh man, Smeds, talk about a blast from the past.  I played against Paul Bell when I was a freshman and he was a senior for an Allegheny team that was ranked #1 in the country (and proceeded to lose their first round playoff game to some team from Alliance, Ohio).  Bell was a beast, and they had a fullback named Chuck Bremer who was just as scary.  Those Allegheny teams in the early 90s were downright nasty.

And speaking of quarterbacks, for anyone who watched Drew Brees break Johnny Unitas' record for most consecutive games throwing a touchdown the other night, you may have seen another former NCAC quarterback during the pregame:  Joey Unitas, backup QB for OWU 1994-95.  Total wins:  0.
