It is a one-point win, but a one-point win on the road a thousand miles from home against an opponent ranked higher in every poll: D3football, AFCA and NCAA regional rankings.

Good luck to Witt in the playoffs.  Congrats to OWU and Kenyon for the improvements made to your football programs.  By strengthening the NCAC, it will make it more likely that at 9 - 1 OWU would make the playoffs in the future.

Last, but certainly not least, congrats to the Seniors at Wabash. Winning the Monon Bell four times in four years is certainly the gold standard!  You had a great run in the playoffs last year.  With all the younger players and the injuries this year, you had a tough row to hoe.  Nonetheless, with your leadership, there were some great wins on the road at Witt and at OWU, and at home against CMU, and of course, the Monon Bell Game!  You leave the program in good hands and Wabash will be right back next year.  You are all Some Little Giants!

Yep, great weekend in Crawfordsville, and a great way for the Seniors to go out undefeated in Bell games. Incredible.

Best of luck to Wittenberg in the NCAA Playoffs. May they prevail in the Battle of the 'Bergs!

And now, ON TO BASKETBALL SEASON!!!

It will be intriguing to see Witt's playoff run. I think they could flame out against Heidelberg (in a shootout) or advance and then play well against Hobart. Hobart's a great example of an undefeated team in a second-tier league that may have the goods or may have puffed up to 10-0 based on the company they keep.

I'm sure slings and arrows will be out of the LL much like they are for the NCAC when they have an undefeated, highly ranked team.

And the purge begins, DePauw OC and OL Coach resigns today...

"DePauw offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Joe Deifel has announced his resignation from the University to pursue non-coaching opportunities."

Ouch.

It was a super busy weekend and so here are my belated thoughts about the weekend, and this season in the NCAC in general:

Congrats to the Wabash seniors. Everybody has to play their last game and a shutout win at home in the Monon Bell game for a 4th straight victory has to be a pretty great last game to have. Congrats to the Wabash team, especially the seniors. Also, congrats to Coach Raeburn. 4-1 vs. Depauw is great. I hope this one of many Bell Game victories to come for Coach Raeburn. He can seriously become the greatest Wabash football coach ever. And he's young. Like Mr. T said, he's gotta lotta mo.

To DePauw, I'm not going to dance on the grave. We've been on the wrong end of a Monon Bell losing streak too. However, I will say this, in 2000 after the 5th straight Bell Game loss by Wabash, the disparity between our programs didn't feel very large. Wabash made a coaching change and then won the next 3 and 4 of the next 5. I'm sorry but I feel like DePauw is further behind than that right now. A new coach, even assuming a great hire, will not be enough. I think it will take a couple more years to be competitive again. I think Depauw can do it and for the sake of our rivalry and the good of the conference, I sincerely hope y'all do.

Congrats to Witt. Have to give those guys a lot of credit. They lost at home on Homecoming to Wabash and did not let that be the end of their season. They did everything they needed to do to win a conference championship and a spot in the tournament. Good luck in the playoffs. I think the Witt/Heidelberg game should be pretty good. Will that game be available for video streaming? Honey-do list permitting I'd like to watch that.

Congrats to OWU. I'm not knowledgeable enough to make intelligent playoff projections and so I'll defer to others like Wally as to whether OWU got a raw deal or not. Either way going 9-1 and winning a share of a conference title is nothing to sniff at. Great season by the Bishops.

Congrats also to Kenyon. They're on the right track. They and Oberlin, both.

Denison and Gheny seem to have plateaued. Not sure what to make of that. I don't know enough about either program, honestly.

Wooster. See how OWU did last season? See how they did this season? Y'all are smart folks. Figure out what goes in the middle there.

Hiram, pick up the phone. Call Oberlin and Kenyon and pick their brains. Y'all gotta do something. It certainly can't get worse.

It's amazing to me how long we wait for football season and it always seems to go too fast. Hard to believe I won't see Wabash on the field again until next September.

Thanks to all y'all who post here for another great season. During football season this board is the website I visit the most and it's because of the people that post here.

The Heidelberg football website shows that the game will be streamed. If it's like last week's game against Baldwin-Wallace there is no audio commentary just raw video streaming.

It may be better for all involved not to have audio with the streaming if it turns out to be like the stream at OWU! Though they should hire the Kenyon PBP guy for the game - he's got some rich dulcet pipes.

Yeah I cannot listen and turn the volume all the way down when I watch the OWU stream.

Hi all,

I've been trying to activate my account all season, hence just arriving to post now. I've seen a lot posted about such an amazing year in the NCAC. Since it looks like everyone covered everything I wanted to post, could we start talking about all-Conference teams? My son was the punter at Wabash a number of years ago, so I feel like a Special Teams guru. I saw someone post a mock all-conference team that had Wooster's Obery over Wabash's Sobleski.Maybe it comes with the bias of having a son who went there, but Sobleski finished with a higher punt average and a better net punt average, so how could he lose? Then, Simon from DPU in . I agree with the earlier call that Mckenzie from OWU should be the first team hands down. However, I have a feeling that they might give it to Williams from Witt. He was 8-10 on the season and more accurate on PATs. I do want to give McDougal from Wabash a shot for second team though (honorable mention). (again probably bias) Wabash did the best on KO coverage and most touchbacks. It was painful to watch missed fg and xp but maybe that injury kept him from full strength longer than we know. (Btw does anyone know what happened to Smith in the Bell Game, it looked like McDougal sprinted his fastest 40 just to kick the fg) I think this has been one of the strongest seasons I have seen in the NCAC for specialists in awhile. This is just my opinion, obviously. My son told me to post on here cause he was tired of hearing me rant.  Good season NCAC. Here's to an even better one next year!

Was lamenting this afternoon about what could have been had Heidelberg lost to B-W this past weekend and OWU got an at-large bid with the selection committee humoring us with a de facto NCAC Championship game with Witt and OWU matching up in the first round.  Ah well.  I'll probably let it go by the end of the week.  ;D
