Insomnia is great.... you run across stuff like this....

OWU & Wabash made the cut for "Odd Mascots" ... pretty funny.

There are some weird ones...

Some really weird ones. I knew Webster's "Gorlok" was made up but I didn't know it was a street intersection.

Wooster's roster is posted ... 63 players (13 freshmen, 27 sophomores, 14 juniors, 9 seniors)

Is (13) incoming freshmen pretty light for a Wooster team?
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

I think the Baseball team had a larger recruiting class. ;D

13 for a preseason freshman roster better be pretty light for ANY team!  If usual attrition rates hold, that may be 7-8 by midseason.  If that becomes a trend, programs have folded with numbers no worse than that.

For Wooster's sake, I hope that number was excluding those who are not yet absolutely definite, and the real number is closer to 30 than 13. ::)

BashDad

That number is staggering even in the context of a coaching change. Sheesh. What gives?

Yes, coaching change?  What do I think/say if I am a first-year Head Coach?  Change in support at the top?   Wooster's classes begin on August 26, so it's doubtful that they will add many more names, if any.  Could the roster just be wrong?  Wouldn't think so.  These 13 are Oberlin numbers, or Kenyon a few years ago.  A quick look shows no running back one TE, two wide receivers, one QB, One or two DBs, one or two D-L, one or two LBs,  five O-L. (A couple of players are listed at two positions.)
One hesitates to say they have lost a class in the recruiting cycle; maybe some of those guys are really good.  But . . .the numbers; the numbers.
Any thoughts from any Wooster people who read the Board?

Colaprete started at Wooster in February; my guess is that a late start to recruiting had some impact there.  One can only hope that next year will have a much different recruiting outcome.

However, the Wooster players do seem excited about how things are changing.

With the coaching change at Wooster, I think it's somewhat understandable.

I wouldn't panic, assuming that the new coach will be given time to implement his program, a transition year is always a bit funky.  Next year's class will take on greater importance, though.  Recruiting class size varies from year to year, and I think you can generally afford one "down" recruiting class but you can't afford two in a row.  A big bounce-back class, with the possibility for early playing time at a decent program, and things will be just fine.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

I agree with you guys.  The late start had to have consequences.  I expect Wooster to be much better than last year.    Still, the small class leaves something of a gap.  With the new athletic facilities Wooster has something to recruit into, and with a decent season we will see what happens.  Centainly, there will not be another 13-player class.   I am still fascinated by the transfer QB--Smith--from Stetson.  Stetson:  one of the cooler nicknames.  They are the "Hatters."

Marietta also changed coaches and still brought in 60+ freshmen.

Not exactly "apples to apples" as they hired end of December vs Wooster end of January and student bodies have somewhat different academic profiles.

13 is startlingly low.  ER was hired in February.  I believe Watts was also hired in February.  I don't think these guys had trouble getting more than 13 kids on board.  Was there anybody left from the Schmitz staff to recruit between December and February?  To get all the way down to 13, you've got to believe they pretty much just stopped.  Bizarre.

The coaching staff listed on the web site only shows one holdover (maybe two, as it doesn't appear Green's bio was updated) from Schmitz's staff.
