Word from C-Ville is things are looking very good.    Some chatter about some interesting moves taking place and some Freshman that could bring real impact to an already talented squad.   Very excited to see the 2013 Little Giants take the field.

Do we have a scrimmage scheduled against anyone (Wheaton?)  I think someone may have asked this earlier,  cannot find if info was posted on it.

WAF!

Any details can't get enough. Been waiting on Kick Off 2013 for about a month now, signed up ready to go!

Shameless plug after watching Brownsburg destroy McCutcheon in the 1st quarter Friday night - Toks Akinribade MUST follow his brother to Wabash.  Bash backer, work your magic.

Toks looks pretty good, makes the first guy miss quite a bit.

What I said was that someone would point out that the NCAC is a weak conference.  Someone did.  I also said I don't care--both if someone says that, and if it is a weak conference. (OK, I wish it could be better, but it is what we have).   In the past 5 years, Wabash and Wittenberg have done comparatively well in the playoffs.
They have won some big games (Heidelberg, North Central) and have lost to some very good teams, including twice to the national champion that year.  And to be fair, they have absorbed some big losses (Wheaton, Hobart, Ohio Northern---and Illinois Wesleyan in overtimes).  I challenge anyone to say that going forward those two (not forgetting OWU) are taken for granted in the early rounds by teams from the "top" leagues. (See North Central, Heldelberg).
This does not mean the NCAC is a "top" conference.  Again, I said as much earlier.
As it stands right now, there are a few elite teams and a few elite conferences.  Only Wesley is not a member of one of those conferences.  To advance through the first playoff round, or the first and second rounds, is an achievement.  To win 8+ games a year for five years is noteworthy.  To win 9+ games a year is even more noteworthy.  Since 2008, 13 teams have averaged more than 9 wins a year.  They are these:  Mt. Union, UW Whitewater, Mary Hardin-Baylor, St. Thomas, Wesley, North Central (all with 50 or more wins--10+ a year!), Linfield, Wabash, Franklin, Johns Hopkins, Thomas More, Trine, Wittenberg.
I could go on with this stuff; maybe I will down the road.  For example, in 2012 10 teams with 2 losses did not finish in the DIIIFB Final Top 25.  One of these teams won 9 games.    In the past 10 years (since 2003), 41 teams have twice as many wins as losses.  (As a reminder, and I'm being somewhat arbitrary, I am excluding NECAC from my numbers.  If I were to include them, the number would be 44 teams.  Can you name them???  Just kidding))
This is getting long winded.  I'm so glad that Kickoff kickoffs tomorrow to give us somethng else to do.

Taking a positive look on the NCAC strength, I believe the future is brighter.   We have a OWU program that is, I believe, here to stay.   We have Depauw who will be back, there is way too much tradition in that program to stay down for long.    Wooster and Allegheny may be down,  but I think they will find it back to being competitive consistently.   The conference will always have the 3 or 4 programs that will struggle any given year.

Does anyone think the round robin scheduling helps or hurts the lower tier teams in the conference?   Over time, could this arrangement send a team packing from participating in football in the NCAC?

Purchased mine, too! Very excited. I'll just point out that for those on the fence, Kickoff isn't just a pre-season hype publication. It's like the bible for the upcoming season. Tons of stuff. Buy it.
