Depauw has changed quarterbacks down 17-0.

That QB just threw a pick at Witt's 2.....bad..bad pass..

Blinked as I switched to the live stream and OWU is now up 10-6, halfway through the 2nd quarter.  Couple of big plays from Espinosa - you know the drill.

And then Witt drives the length of the field to make it 24-0. Depauw's 2nd half defensive strategy will need to include a running clock.

Meanwhile, Hiram is up 13-0 at Allegheny. These aren't the same old Terriers.

3 and out for Kenyon, 50-yard bomb by Espinosa for a TD.

OWU up 17-6 in the 2nd.

OWU FG from 34 yards out as time expires in the 1st half makes it 20-6, OWU.

Lol @ comment by Kenyon announcer (no offense to the kids, of course). He needs to get out more.

Hiram still leading Gheny 13-0. This will be Hiram's first win over Allegheny since joining the NCAC.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

They beat Kenyon in 2011.

The Scots beat Oberlin 39-21 on a soggy-turned-sunny Homecoming day at Wooster.  Wooster QB Richard Barnes had a big day, throwing for 224 yards and 3 TDs (with no picks), and rushing for 120 yards and another score.  Each team rolled up nearly 500 yards of total offense, but Wooster forced 3 turnovers (2 INTs and a fumble) and had no giveaways.  After watching this, Case's offense must have been really anemic last Sunday to get shut out by Oberlin's D.

Wooster DB Labaron Sylvester was the one who forced the fumble early in the game.  Later in the first quarter, after a play that I missed, the officials huddled and then "disqualified" him from the game, under the new rule about hitting a defenseless player high.  (I think that a player who is ejected has to leave the venue, but one who is disqualified can be on the team bench, as with a basketball player who fouls out.)

On a personal note, Barnes took a moment to talk with my son's elementary school flag football team just before the game today, and the kids thought that was really cool.  Thanks to the Wooster athletic department for making it a terrific afternoon for this group of boys!

Griz take care of business 48-7  led at half 34-0.  nothing material to report.   some would say Manchester was the second best team in the HCAC.  We shall see.  Earlham Quakers up next,

Hiram not only beat Gheny, but did so on the road with their back up QB.  And shut them out to boot!  Gheny is clearly bad, but this is a fun story no matter what.  The Terriers are 2-1. They haven't won 3 games since 2008. They haven't won 4 games since 1995.  This could be their year!

When is the last time Hiram shut out an NCAC opponent?  An NCAC opponent on the road?  Great to see things hopefully turning the corner for the Terriers.  On the other hand:  Jeez, Gheny.  Jeez.

Some Wabash/Denison thoughts:

- The offense was slow to get going today.  Credit a game Denison defense.  But after a bad snap put Wabash in a 3rd and 28 situation, Putko delivered a great post pass to Jon Laird for 30 yards and then things really clicked from there.  The running game got going well with Holmes and Putko both making big gains.  I thought Putko really threw with more confidence and authority after that long pass to Laird as well.  He found a nice rhythm with Houston Hodges as things went along.  The big news on offense is obviously Tyler Holmes's knee and that really took some of the steam out of everybody at Hollett today.  Zurek stepped in and ran well in the second half as did CP Porter (another score for CP today).  Stella also looked better this week than he did last week.

- The Wabash defense was fantastic again today.  Four forced fumbles, gave up just 3 first downs in the first half.  The first unit did give up a score in the third quarter on a nice pass from Sklenar to DuShawn Brown over the top of Pettiford (Denison actually did quite a bit of work to Pettiford's side today...something to watch as we go forward).  The big number today was 1-11 on 3rd down for Denison.  Wabash does a great job of getting off the field on 3rd downs.

- Special teams were pretty good.  Wabash scored a touchdown from the punt unit for the second straight week, this time it happened after Sobleski bombed a punt that DU's return man was unable to field over his shoulder.  The ball wound up in the end zone and Justin Woods got on top of it for the score.  MacDougall missed two PATs today which will be a sore spot, but all in all it was a good day for the special teams.

Up next for Wabash is a trip to Meadville to take on the scuffling Allegheny Gators.  As if Allegheny needed anything else to worry about, Wabash has a bit of a score to settle with those guys.  Should be good times all the way around.

On Hiram, From what I see the last time they...

Shut out a NCAC foe?  Never.

Shut out someone on the road?  1994 at Oberlin.

Shut out anyone anywhere?  1995 Berg at home.
