I never said Wabash was playing Hope. Just merely pointed out your descriptions (in two different settings) on your team and other teams. Despite IWU's defense doing similar things that Wabash's "next level" defense has accomplished.

North Central was never a great offense because they were mostly one dimensional. UWW and UMU have had great offenses and great defenses. What were the scores of some of those 7 Staggs? How many more Staggs do we have to see where the teams score 20+? seven? I think we can get seven.

I don't think you are crazy. If anything, I am the lunatic. Most people agree with you that Hope will keep it less than 2 scores. I am calling for 3+ scores as the difference. I am the one that needs an exam.

I attended the Butler/Wittenberg game.  So, what I write here is from the perspective of a neutral observer, though I know well all have our own way of viewing events.  (I first wrote about the game on this Board, including what happened in the stands, early in the week following the game.)
I decided to sit with the Witt fans out of loyalty to the NCAC.  I was wearing a Wabash shirt and cap, and everyone I spoke with from Witt was gracious about Wabash--and looking forward to coming to C'Ville.  A few fans seemed surprised that a Wabash guy would show up at a Witt game.  What is a junkie to do?  Anyhow, yes, about a quarter of the space was reserved for the Butler band.  Because the stands were otherwise crowded, I found myself right at the border between the Witt "section" and the empty places reserved for the band.  I walked in on a loud, pointed, lengthy exchange (none of it profane) between some Witt fans and Butler officials, security mostly.  Yes, a cop was summoned and arrived   The Witt fans wanted the space.  Some of them--more than a few--had already left (been forced) for the other side of the field. There were patches of red alongside the Butler blue.
Anyway, just before kickoff, and as the Butler band was coming into their spot, I decided to move across the field, freeing up another Witt place, I thought.   Oh, also because the Butler tubas were placed next to the Witt fans.
What to make of this.  I recognize and support the Witt fans in their desire to have their full contingent behind the team's bench--their "side of the field."  I see Butler's rationale about the band playing into their crowd--and that they play in a nationwide conference, so how often would the visitors' side be full.  (I know, I know, at Wittenberg all the fans sit on the same side; that's just the way it is.)     At the time, I tried to imagine Wabash fans' reaction to such a situation.  I think that it would not have been much different.  Was the "conversation" uncivil.  Yeah, some of it undoubtedly.  In the tension of the moment before a big game probably a sin to be forgiven.
I don't think what happened influenced what happened on the field that night.

As I said (or meant to say), I was not there ... just got the report from Butler administrators.  My point was more (probably poorly made) ... have some common sense.  It is Butler's field and Butler's Band, which Band was allotted that space.  As a visitor you take what is offered ... example:  at Witt there are no visitor stands on the other side of the field.  What happened, happened.  It should not have.

I think I can say without fear of contradiction, were Wabash playing Butler and it were Wabash fans, the problem would have not occurred and - even if perhaps started - would have been snuffed in the bud by other Wabash fans.  (Contrary to your view?)

I never said it had any impact on the game ... never heard that.

Now, Old Tiger ... never never never associate with New Tigers ... they are bad bad bad.  You, your fellow fans, and your team are much better than New Tigers.  I look forward to November 9 and a great game.  If you are around, come behind the home stands before the game to where the tailgates are and you will be welcomed and presented with nourishment.

Hey, wabco. I know you were just reporting.  The Butler administration has its point of view.  Fair enough.  What to them was unruly and perhaps over-the-line behavior from a few Witt fans was from the other side inconsiderate and obtuse planning from Butler.     As to how fans react:  every team has its hotheads, blockheads, and airheads.  Would other Wabash fans have stepped in?  I'd like to think so.  But I've been around long enough to know (having seen) how difficult that is at the time.  By the way, I did see several Wittenberg fans tugging at shirttails of those most vocal.  Witt/Butler is not exactly Wabash/DPU, but we've all seen fans on both sides in many circumstances not need much provocation.  I will say that in the same circumstances I Might Have Thought I Was Being Slighted (not knowing that the Butler band always sit there, or not caring).   I am postulating that it was in the minds of some Witt fans at that moment that they were being slighted because they are "just DIII."  Paranoia runs deep.
As to my last comment.  Just sarcasm.   I'm sure the coaches and team were too busy to notice.
The seating at Wittenberg is what it is.  I've never known anyone who likes all the seating to be on the same side--and behind the home-team bench.  Witt, Woo and other places.  It's much better to make the visiting fans look into the afternoon sun,  Hollett Stadium.

Greetings from Arizona.  Does anyone know if Allegheny is planning to stream the game live on Saturday?  I see in their game notes it still says TBA.  Hoping to catch the game from afar with our AZ family and friends and cheer on our LGs.  WAF

There is an active link for streaming video at http://alleghenygators.com/index.aspx.  I think we'll have to wait and see what happens tomorrow.  If I find any confirmation for streaming video tomorrow, I'll get a post up in here.  WAF!

Things I'm looking for around the league tomorrow...

Wabash @ Allegheny - A couple of things here.  First, I'll be watching the running backs to see if it is going to be a committee approach from here on out or if somebody is going to establish themselves as a 20 carry per game guy.  Also, I'm looking for scorched earth.  The LGs are calling this trip "redemption"...I think "redemption" includes full blown annhilation.

Wooster @ Hiram - Barnes is coming off of a great game against Oberlin.  I'm anxious to see if Hiram has a plan to keep him in check.  You can score on Wooster, so I think this one comes down to how well Hiram defends what has been a productive offense so far in 2013.  Very interesting game.

DePauw @ Kenyon - I'm watching to see if DePauw has found any kind of offense.  One touchdown in two games...not so good.  I'm still not quite sure what to make of Kenyon.  The luster is off of that opening day win at Allegheny a bit, but they did play a good game against OWU.  I don't think there are many teams that will hold them down to 20 points.

Oberlin @ Witt - Go Yeo.  But really, Witt responds well after losing.  After losing to Wabash last year, they flipped a switch and were great the rest of the way.  They dismantled DePauw last week.  I don't think it looks good for Oberlin this week, but I will never, ever completely count Oberlin out ever again.  I've learned my lesson.

Denison @ OWU - For me, this is the most intriguing game of the weekend.  sigma one has said that one of the top three teams is going to lose to somebody not in that top three.  This is as good a place as any for it to happen.  Denison has aptitude.  OWU has been a little underwhelming.  If OWU has turned any kind of corner, they ought to put Denison away...but I'm starting to think that Denison keeps this thing very close.  We might go down to the wire tomorrow night with this one.

I am a Franklin alum and fan.  The "new" Butler Bowl is horrible for visiting teams.  In the old days when I was a student, and Franklin was in the NCAA Div II Heartland Conference with Butler, the old Butler Bowl had 15,000 seats.  Thus, there was a large visitor section.  In 2009 when Franklin beat Butler in the "somewhat new" Butler Bowl, there was only 1500 seats in SW corner near Hinkle Fieldhouse (stands from endzone to 30 yard line only).  Visitors had to bring a chair and sit on the hill with a $12 ticket.  Last season, Franklin visited the "new" Butler Bowl.  Nice new 5,000 seat home grandstand and a tiny visitor grandstand.  Franklin fans were not allowed to sit in the visitor grandstand which was reserved for the band.  Pretty bad for $12.  Since FC had more fans than the home team, we moved to the home side and dominated the atmosphere (just like we dominated the tailgate).

Sorry, we beat Butler in the Butler Bowl in 2008, not 2009.

Seems fine unless you sit by the band.

The campus is very safe and very beautiful.  The surrounding neighborhood is OK, but it is near 38th Street and Broad Ripple which are both sketchy areas.  My nephew graduated from Butler in May and he had no problems and loved every minute of his time at BU.

Just read this week's issue of The Bachelor.   Wabash's starting QB the past two weeks, Michael Putko, is not making the trip due to a violation of team rules. :o  Looks like Andy Walsh and some of the freshmen QBs are going to get a chance to work with the number one offense on Saturday.

It will be interesting to see how long the starter will play IF Wabash gets out to a big lead.  I am assuming Walsh will be the starter but that is only an assumption.  Based on his performances from last year, Walsh is more than capable of stepping in and leading the team.  I am curious to see a couple of the freshmen, including Belton's brother.

Mr. Ypsi

While I'm sure the Woo coaches will not take Hiram lightly, if some players are caught looking ahead to Wabash, assuming these are still the lovable little puppies of old, the game could be a classic trap game.  I still picked Woo in the MIAA pickems, but (with no offense to Woo) would love to see Hiram win it - I hate when a team is always stuck on the bottom (ala NPU in the CCIW).
