Wooster's defense was also improved and fast. I think the Scots will be the team to beat outside of this year's big three.

I think we can retire this.

Very true. I couldn't believe OWU lost to Denison. Was anyone at the game or is there a good synopsis of it somewhere online?

A couple of things from last night's business in Delaware. First, Miles Mackenzie missed three field goals and an extra point. Any of those kicks wins the game.  He's supposed to be money and he's not been money so far this year.

Second, I was impressed with OWU getting the ball down the field. Really the first time I've seen them try to get deep on any kind of regular basis. And it worked.

Third, OWU can't run at all. Your TE can't be your go to guy when you want to run.

sigma one told us in august that one of the he too three here would lose to somebody not in the top three.  Spot on.

ETP also told us that OWU wasn't as great as we thought. And I'm ready to say that he's right. I thought OWU would have another gear in that offense this year, and they just don't seem to have it. Coupled with a defense that isn't as stout as last year, and OWU is basically what ETP thought they
were. Also spot on.

Had no idea about their extra point issues. And I haven't gotten to watch them recently, but I thought OWU was known for their "air it out downfield" passing attack?

How many times will I have to explain this?

OWU beat Denison by 3 points last year. Please look at my last post on the previous page explaining why OWU never belonged in "the big three" to begin with. They're basically the same team they were last year; this year they aren't getting all the bounces/kicks in their favor and the schedule is a little tougher with the addition of Witt.  Like I've said: OWU could be exactly the same team they were last year and finish this season 7-3. In fact, that's exactly what I predicted in the preseason.

They throw it a lot, but it's mostly dink and dunk stuff. Lotta bubble screens and short passes. Good way to move the ball and tire out a defense but the downfield element is needed to score some TDs.

Well I am sorry that I didn't review all of your posts, but thanks for the insight nonetheless.

Also, can anyone explain to me the procedure for getting Witt Wabash tickets this year. Is there a possibility of me driving down only to be locked out because of a sell out?

You should have no trouble getting a ticket at the gate.  Plenty of seating.

Apologies, I wasn't trying to be snarky - I literally just wanted to direct you to my previous post rather than re-typing the same thing for the third time today.

No problem ex tartan. I must have just assumed that given the offense they produced last year.

Versus Denison on Saturday OWU went against type.  Espinose threw numerous balls 15/20 or more yards down the field.  He completed passes for 63, 41, 39, 36, 33, 29, and 23 yards.  He also completed several others for yards in the teens.  If I recall correctly none of his passes over 20 yards were of the dink and run for distance.  (I could be wrong about one of these.)  I was surprised to see OWU throw so many intermediate and deep balls, so they obviously thought they could exploit the Big Red secondary.  No idea whether this portends any trend in the future, but the plan for Saturday was clear.

It's funny that you say that. Because up until Partridge got hurt against DU, Hiram had taken several shots deep

Wabash is #1 in Scoring Offense... Total Defense and Turnover Margin....  That is a pretty good sign that your team is winning.
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Comment posted in reply to today's "Snap Judgments" column:

"Only a matter of time until Allegheny drops football. The administration and the new AD obviously view football success as incompatible with their "progressive" agenda. A proud football tradition with a D3 national championship and numerous playoff appearances is being dishonored by an administration whose ambivalence (at best) toward the program is now driving results on the field. Actually it would be the humane thing to do to pull the plug now, and spare Coach Matlack and the young men the pain of competing on a field that is not level -- and just think of the Title IX bonus points that could be reaped!"

It's hard to understand what an administration could have done to have such a devastating effect on the program since last year.  It appears that they attracted 44 recruits this year.

The new AD came from Lake Forest, which has a football program and her undergrad degree was from Trinity (TX), which has competed quite successfully in football.
