I've been dying to see those DPU/Gheny highlights!  That game sounded incredible!  Haha.  :)

Kind of bummed with Wabash today but I they'll get things cleaned up offensively.  The D causing 8 turnovers is sick (+6 on the day).  Klembara looked good and knowing he was playing both ways...

ER 's post game comment says it all where he commented on the 2 goal line stops; saying the O-line didn't get it done..."it was an embarrassment."  He'll get things fixed.

42-yard field goal right before the half for Hiram.  Halftime score:

OWU - 17
HC - 6

Terriers hanging tough, lot of younger guys making some plays.  Whole new attitude for this team which is nice to see.  These announcers for Hiram are legit, too.  One guy sounds like Tone Loc.

Gonna be a nervous and gassy second half.

firstdown

BB 16 no excuses, but the conditions were miserable today with 30 to 40 mph winds and damp cold. A lot of guys were either down with or recovering from a 24 hour bug.

The flu ran wild at Wabash this week and if I'm not mistaken Bash was missing 2 or 3 olineman one of them being Brock I believe. Guess I could check the stats.

firstdown

Oberlin played tough today.  Unlike last year, kept their focus and got it done. It wasn't pretty, but the LG's took care of business.

The Scots are easily handling Denison tonight, thus far, in the battle for the Old Red Lantern.  Freshman WR Darrian Owens (who graduated from Wooster High) broke the single-game receiving yardage record tonight, in the first half.  Owens had 4 catches for 230 yards and 3 touchdowns, and threw Wooster's other TD pass, as the Scots led 29-0 at halftime.  (The Scots also kicked a field goal, but had two PATs blocked.)  Now at the end of the 3rd quarter, the home team leads 36-14.

fantastic50

Wooster and Denison combined for nearly 1000 yards of offense (Scots 540, Big Red 449) in a game with a lot of big plays.  The Scots had four takeaways and no giveaways, and burned the visitors' secondary on deep passes several times, leading to a 43-21 victory for Wooster.  The Scots are now in sole possession of 3rd place in the league.

Bishops win 51-13. 28 points in the third quarter. I did not see the game, so I have no other comments.

Wooster beating Denison surprised me.  Not that they won (although I did expect Denison to win), but the margin and decisiveness.  I thought Denison would outscore Wooster.  As previously noted the Scots are in sole possession of third place and look like a good bet to stay there.

OWU pulled away in the second half.  Hiram, as noted, showing improved fight but we shouldn't bury the Bishops just yet - still clearly a dangerous passing team that can pile up points if the offense is clicking.

DPU over Gheny, as noted by Wes, even if it's not the best competition the New Tigers are rounding into form against the soft part of the schedule.  As might be expected under Lynch, you're seeing progress as the season goes.  Bell Game this year might be a little more competitive than the past two (not saying much, but still).

Wouldn't read too much into Wabash and Witt's "lackluster" wins - hard to show up and win by 40 every week.  Sometimes you just have to grit your teeth, grind out a win on a bad day, and move on to the next one.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Completely missed the game yesterday. Does anyone know if Oberlin archives their games on YouTube or anywhere else?

The radio station that carries Oberlin's audio broadcast is archived, but I don't know if the video is archived by Oberlin or not.

Needed to take a couple hundred deep breaths upon leaving Henry Field last night. OWU lit it up, particularly in the third quarter, and was able to limit Hiram scoring opportunities early on. I hate saying it but props to OWU, they had the better game plan and better execution. The one thing I can take away from the game is that the Terriers were not timid in taking on OWU; from the stands I didn't feel as if Hiram lacked any confidence or anything of that sort, and the kids certainly played hard. Just very disappointed that Hiram wasn't able to slow down OWU's offense, especially considering the Terriers came off of a bye week. But as I said before, congratulations to OWU on a well played, disciplined football game. My spirits are down for the moment, but I still think we have a very real shot at two more wins this year. On to Wabash week... GO TERRIERS.

Also, not positive when Blake will be returning for Hiram... But best of luck to him moving forward!

Observations from Oberlin, Ohio.
Wind gusting to 25mph and up during the entire game.
Soft field, but I didn't notice anyone slipping on a cut.  Sure that there had to be care taken to keep feet underneath.
             Surface not a huge factor.
Wabash said to have multiple players fighting the flu during the week; several did not travel.

       OK.  That being said . . .
Just before the beginning of the season, I asked a series of questions about the NCAC, to be answered as the year progressed.
Paraphrasing two of them:  *Will Wabash find a QB?  *What will happen to Oberlin with such a small roster, 39 at the time, I recall?
Question I:  Answer:  Yes and No.  Wabash is 7-0 on the year, and 6-0 with Putko at the helm.  Hard to argue with success.
+ + + + +Going into Saturday, Putko was ranked 5th or 6th (I'm not going to look it up again) in NCAA stats in completion %age.
Wabash has made a living running the ball, and has won by big scores.  He's been relatively careful with the football, but has
not been yet in a situation where his performance matters.  That is bound to come.
-- -- -- -- --He does not always look comfortable running the football in the read-option game, and his decision-making there
is suspect on occasion  Yes, he's young, but this is such an important part of the Wabash offense.  He is not a quarterback who
appears to anticipate his receivers' coming open.  The ball often comes out late.
(Turning to you here, BashDad, to say more if you are inclined.  I'm the amateur here.)
Conclusion:  so far, so good because of the wins.  He's not yet one of the Wabash-productive QBs we are used to seeing.  Maybe
he's not being asked to be because of the running game and the defense.  As I said, hard to argue with 7-0.
Question II:  Answer.  Counted on the Oberlin sideline yesterday--31 Yoemen helmets.  31!  But they lined up and played well.
Oberlin has played Wabash well and more-than-well lately.  It looks like they will get through the season with this thin roster.
Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, and Hiram remain.  Maybe one more win, maybe not.  But don't turn your back.  What a playing and
coaching preformance so far, including the early-on win v. CWR,  shutout of Allegheny (please, no remarks about the anemic
Gator performances), and respectable losses in terms of margin to Wooster, Kenyon, Wabash.
      300 Spartans.  NO, 30 Yoemen.

Wabash forced 8 turnovers yesterday.  And scored 27 points.  Off turnovers--#1, Int returned 44 yds for a TD.  #2--fumble recovered at W49.  W stopped on downs at O2 yd line.  No points.  #3--Int down at W46.  Wabash TD.  #4--fumble, recovered at W44.  Wabash punt.  #5--fumble, recovered at Oberlin 31.  FG.  #6--Int at O 38.  Missed FG.  #7--Fumble, recovered at O18.  O personal foul, moved ball to O9.  Missed FG.  #8  Int, W44.  Game ends.   Notice anything?  Wabash begins after Obie turnovers no deeper in its own territory than the 44 yd. line.   The two missed FGs from a reliable kicker were into a very tough wind, blowing at an angle across the field.  Credit the Obie defense, time after time coming up with big stops, and impressively inside the 3 again and again.
Still, a win is a win at the place in the season when there is almost bound to be a result that surprises, win or lose.  Congratulations to Oberlin on a game will played, and to Wabash on the win under trying conditions.
