The SJF win takes a bit of the sting out of Wabash being passed over for them in the selection process.

Congrats to Witt.

I was mulling this over, and I know I'll get chewed up for this, but l have a thought about the aq process. What if D3 did the same thing that the bcs did. As in, if you are an aq and not in the top 25 you shouldn't receive the automatic bid. Then, you get the best teams.

Thoughts?

Some teams start in the top 25 based on name recognition and stay there based on selective scheduling.  wont ever happen.

Twice as many schools in Division III. A top 25 isn't enough for something like that. I have a similar idea, however, based on whether a team is in the top 15 (or perhaps 20) of its region.

I like your idea; has merit and I think would essentially make sure then that the best teams really did get in (taking into consideration all those paramenters, SOS, etc.).  Yet, do you think that would ever happen? I guess most likely not, for a variety of reasons (again because it's DIII ;)), however, yours would make for an even better playoff experience each year.

My system would only be used to disenfranchise a team or two each year. I still want those conferences to have regular access to the championships, but not if their champ is going 6-4 or 5-5.

I would say Fisher definitely handled the conditions more favorably (it snows a ton in Rochester).  John Carroll was very dominant in the 1st quarter.  Our defense held them at bay and eventually our offense found a way to break through their extremely solid defensive unit.  Then the weather turned putrid and it gave an already strengthening Fisher team a boost.

I think if it weren't for some personal foul penalties in the second half that John Carroll wouldn't have advanced the ball into Fisher territory the entire second half.  It was a dominating 2 and a half quarters to finish the game.

SJF would be dangerous if they cleaned up the personal fouls. It was an issue with last year's team too, right?

Yes, it has actually plagued them for a few seasons now.  It's disconcerting as a fan.  You never want to believe your team takes cheap shots or things of that nature.  However one of the personal fouls today was a roughing the kicker on 4th and long...it was a suspect call that they could have let slide.  Bit of an acting job.

bashbrother you make a good point about the OAC. I said the same thing at ohiocollegefootball.com. I think it is time to take another look at just how good the OAC really is. It may have been living off the Mt. Union reputation for too long now. Serious consideration in the future should be given to the NCAC also. I will never understand this pool b and c stuff for picking teams. It seems though no matter what the sport a quality team is always getting passed over because of this system. I guess it makes sense to others and I might understand it myself someday but when I see a quality Wabash football team passed over or a national power in lacrosse like Denison get passed over it just doesn't seem right. Hopefully someday the NCAC will get the respect it deserves and if a there is a deserving team it will get picked and not looked over because of preconceived ideas about the league. Wittenberg can go a long way next weekend to gain that respect for the league. I have seen Mt. this year. That is a fine team to be sure but they are not what they have been and Wittenberg showed today they can play with anyone. Good luck next week Tigers. Mt. is going to lose sooner or later and this is as good a time as ever. Oh by the way, I wouldn't doubt that the Tigers block a raider punt also. Their punter seems a little slow getting off punts sometimes.

Makes sense and that's a good point, Pat.  Maybe DI FBS should listen to you so that we don't have those 6-6 teams making the bowl games! :)

Congrats to Witt on the beatdown they gave today.

Off to Alliance - I know Mt. will be favored, but I would be hard pressed not to take the points, whatever the prognosticators deem that spread to be.

Agreed.  Wittenberg presents a threat to Mount.  UMU pass defense has been vulnerable-ish against good teams (even W & J notched three passing TD's yesterday with a backup QB playing).  Reed Florence should be able to make some things happen.  Question will be whether Witt can hold Mount under 40.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

if anyone is interested I posted some pics on the wittenberg and d3football.com facebook pages. By the way what was the reason for the personal foul call on LV on the pass. Looked like a good play on the picture I took of it. Good luck Tigers.

Congrats to Witt on a good win yesterday.  Florence is the real deal and will present a good challenge for Mount Union.

I agree with Joe Wally about seeing SJF win yesterday as well.  After seeing the results of the IWU versus Wartburg, it does make one wonder about the North regional rankings though.

Well said -- Mount is as vulnerable as ever.  And to me, the key is to staring fast for Witt.  Mount has been able to score some points early against Franklin, Heidelberg, John Carroll and W&J and then hung on late.  I think Witt has the team to score points early and get a couple stops defensively.  It will be interesting to see.  I don't think a spread should be more than 3.5 points.
