Wooster @ W&J games notes.  Look at that Wooster 2-deep.  They're going to be real good this year.

Hiram @ Westminster game notes.  Hiram is a little younger on offense than I thought.  Plenty of experience back on defense though.  Titans starting a freshman QB.  Hiram is winning this game.

Thiel @ Allegheny game notes.  Upperclassmen abound on offense in 2014.  They do start 6 Fr/So. on defense though.  I'll go over the 65 points they scored in 2013.  They might also go over the 358 they gave up.  There's some good offenses in the league and that bunch is going to get scored on.

I'm high on the Scots. I voted them in the preseason North Region Fan Poll ballot. They're going to be a tough team.

I would have thought Barnes rushing average (3.8) would have been much better, seems like every time he takes off he gets 10-20 yards :o
The Scots will win a boat load of games this year. My pick is 8-2 suffering losses to Wabash, and either Dennison or the team down south.

QB ypc numbers are always going to look weird because we count sack yards as rush yards which is wrong and lazy.  We could do better.  Anybody who has watched full-strength Richard Barnes knows what's up, 3.8 ypc stat be damned.

Fun fact: Wabash is going to be the only team that will have had to play Richard Barnes five times.  Joy.

Whenever I look to see if an opposing QB is a rushing threat, I look at the full-season stats which separate rush "gains" from "losses" - I know that's not perfect since they could still have lost yards on designed runs, but if I erase the losses and see that Player X has rushed for 581 yards "gained" on 122 rushes, I know that dude is a rushing threat, even if his sack yardage brings his official rushing total down to 404 yards or whatever on those 122 carries.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Might be one of the biggest games Wabash will have played since:

http://youtu.be/eJVsYImsd7o  make sure to watch it to the end of the football highlights.  ;)

Great conversation between the LG's & HS-C Tigers....
I've been to games at HS-C...outstanding atmoshere...
Tailgating reminds me of Ole Miss....very Southern,
Sport jackets, ties and a very nice/newer stadium.
The Tigers should be well represented...Johnny Reb
invades Billy Yank....Civil War Part Deux...
Very excited for the Bishops...We should see the recruiting
work of & developement of the JV program...The
post-Espo era..can't wait to see what we have...

We arrived in Crawfordsville today around 3:00.  We had a chance to drive around campus and look around a little. Very nice. I expected nothing less. I know I've been a royal pain to a few of you guys leading up to the game - all in good fun.

Old Pal - I loved you breaking down the film -awesome.

Wally - I tried to match your football knowledge, but in the end I concede I am very biased and blinded by my love for the Tigers!

Bashbrother - I know you'll be happy this is my last post before the game!

Thanks for all the banter.  I hope for an entertaining and safe game tomorrow between 2 very proud institutions. May the best team win.

This has been a fun week.  This game has a 2nd round playoff feel to it.  The quality is there.  The unfamiliarity is there.  There is a very real sense that winner will have accomplished something a little bit extra.  This isn't your average non-conference game and it's been fun to read and research and get familiar with a new team.  Can't wait to see this thing play out tomorrow.

Agree with this. It feels like playoffs in September. I love this. I know it's a 2 year deal but I really hope Wabash continues scheduling playoff caliber teams for our lone non-con game. This has been a great buildup to start the season.

The best part about this week and playing a new opponent who is learning about Wabash for the first time is that we didn't have to spend the first half of the week reading funny guy posts about the all-male thing.   :)

TigerFan- It's been fun.  I hope you and everybody else traveling up from VA enjoy their stay at Wabash and have a great time on game day.  You don't have to apologize for blind devotion for your team.  Lord knows we have plenty of that on our side too.  There are 1900 pages of archived NCAC posts that say so.

Looking forward to a great contest tomorrow.  Who knows- maybe we'll get to do it again in November.

All I ask is that Wabash wrap this up early enough so I can go to the CWU Volleyball Classic at 11:30 Pacific with a clear conscience.

(16 volleyball matches in three days....why did I say I'd do stats for it.?)
