Hiram's administration is also considering sending down two charter buses full of students for the game; in hopes of making potentially her last game one with an electric atmosphere.

This is the football board, but a story worth sharing...

Kudos to Hiram and MSJ for making this happen.  Here's hoping that she makes it to November 2.

An absolutely terrific story. I was really pleased to see that we accommodated the travel situations.

I'm hoping she makes it to November 2nd.  She's from the small town in Indiana that I now live in and by all accounts is a remarkable young lady.  My niece went to school with her.  Kudos to Hiram for doing the right thing.

And to the NCAA for allowing Hiram to make the move.  No bad guys here.  Will be keeping eyes on the news for how this turns out.

Agreed.  I bash the NCAA a lot for doing wrong, so I'll give them credit for getting this one right.

It took me a while to post because I couldn't see the screen thru my tears.

+k to XTP for sharing the story.

Ditto, Ditto, gentlemen.  I am with you on this one too. +k and all prayers to the young lady and her family.

It's just not fair. What a strong, brave, young lady. This screwed up world will definitely miss this young lady. I will be saying prayers for her and her family.

ExTP,

Wow,thank you so much for sharing.  What an incredible story.  Such an incredible young lady.  Can you imagine seeing her take the floor on November 2nd?  There will not be a dry eye in the whole place - rightfully so.  Kudos to the NCAA too!

Thanks again!

There has been no activity on the board this week regarding the Kenyon game and the numbers speak for themselves.  Saturday will not be the Lords day.

Yeah, Wabash/Kenyon is a pretty heavy mismatch.  But there IS a big game this week in the league: Witt @ Wooster.  Some talking points:

- pretty much the last chance for Richard Barnes to notch a signature win as a Scot.  Can he do it?
- was Witt's malaise in Granville last week a product of Witt maybe having trouble with that kind of offense and that kind of quarterback (Wooster does both a little better, IMO) or was that Witt playing a vanilla game and taking a deep breath before this week's big rivalry game?
- Can Witt figure out how to run?  If you can't run against Wooster's front, then we've probably got a red flag situation.

We don't want to dismiss the importance of this game.  IF Wooster can win this thing, and win out (favorites the rest of the way except for perhaps a slight dog or coin flip game against DPU which is at home for the Scots), they'll get a share and maybe an AQ depending on how things break in November.

The other game that I am going to keep an eye on is the OWU @ DPU game.  The Bishops get the Indiana teams back-to-back with the Dannies at home this weekend.  Comparisons are inevitable and this will give us a mid-season benchmark to start the downhill run towards the Monon Bell game.

Again,  I think we are propping up this Wooster team to be something it is not.  Witt wins this one easily.
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Idle hands do the devil's work.  Witt should win this one but what the heck.  We may as well bang the drum for Wooster - no one else is.  I think that OWU/DPU will be the most competitive game this week, with Witt/Woo a distant second. Barnes is the wildcard in this game and he has yet to prove to actually BE the wildcard.  This is his last chance. Gheny/Oberlin may be close but they are fighting to not finish 9th in the conference - not a game that I would seek out.  The Wabash/Kenyon game (I hope) will be an exercise in rote execution.

Because of some question marks for both teams, I'm intrigued about what will happen in Wooster on Saturday.
Last year, in a track meet, Witt prevailed 66-39, after leading 45(!)-25(!) at the half.  Barnes ran for two scores and threw for another three in that game.  Witt had 634 yards of offense(!) to Woo's 386.
This year, the Tigers are rushing the ball for only 116 yards per game, very un-Witt-like.  Gary has emerged as by far the leading runner, with 97 carries to only 26 carries for Dehnke.  Recall that Dehnke was the NCAC newcomer of the year at RB two years ago.  Last year Gary and Dehnke split carries more equally, with Gary getting a few more touches.  Dehnke was lining up at wide receiver on some of the plays last week.  But Gary is averaging only 3.0 yards per attempt.  With a mostly veteran offensive line, Witt ought to be running better; perhaps a symptom of their loss of key members of last year's passing attack--although they are throwing the ball successfully so far this fall.
On the other side, the Scots are rushing for 261 yards per game this year.  But Hackel did not play last week after being injured in the Wabash game.  Smith has filled in well, and ran well v. Wabash.  Will the veteran Hackel, a 1000 yard rusher last year, who was leading the conference in yards this year before his injury, return (effectively)?
The Witt rush defense is giving up only about 100 yards per game.  But Wabash was giving up considerably fewer, and Woo gashed them on a windy day when Barnes was having big trouble completing passes.  He threw only 22 times even though Woo was well behind in the second half.
So, as bashbrother says, is Wooster for real, or are they pretenders exposed already this year by W&J and Wabash?
And can Witt find its mojo and be able to rush the ball?  Will they need to?

I know I'd be welled up.  So sad.  I saw they moved the game to the Cintas Center.  I pray that she gets to take the floor in front of a huge crowd.

Not be a Kenyon apologist, but I noticed that they have a combined 30 fr/so. on the 2 deep this week. That makes for some tough sleddin' for any team.

If Depauw beats OWU and Witt goes down this weekend, the Monon Bell may have direct conference playoff implications for the first time. Oh my.

That would be more than interesting.  What do you think the chances are for that happening?
