Depauw with a real chance to ruin Wabash's remaining playoff hopes! Does a win for Depauw give them any sort of chance to get into the playoff conversation themselves??

Hiram College wins the inter-collegiate basketball world championship at the World's Fair Universal Exposition Olympic Games in St. Louis, Missouri. Final score: Hiram, 25; Latter Day Saints University, 18.

No, DPU's not regionally ranked, and while they may be if the unthinkable happens, they won't leapfrog North Central nor Heidelberg nor Chicago.

Schwami wasn't beat down because of his congrats to Witt. He was called out because of an errant observation. Witt won the game, but they weren't the best team on the field, and I did offer my wish that they represent well.

The team who wins the game in a competition is, by definition, the best team on the field.  Otherwise you need to change the rules of the game.

False. There are a dozen examples every single week where this absolute doesn't hold.

We can talk about the philosophy of competition all we want. I'd settle for having been the second best team on the field yesterday as long as we got the win.

Play that game 100 times, the outcome probably would be 70-30 in Wabash's favor.

Also, in that case, teams would never lose to underdogs. Chaminade would never beat Virginia. Oberlin would never have beaten Wabash in 2012.

Apparently Wabash won the game. They just inconveniently scored the fewest ppoints.

smedindy

No. We lost, and it was all on us. We should have been up 21-0 at half, but weren't because of errors and we should have kept running Holmes and Zurek (I think) until there was no more time to run. Alas.

And just like you chose to ignore his congratulations in his post, you chose to ignore my point. I understand how you feel but it sure sounds like sour grapes to lose the biggest game of the year and immediately claim you were a better team.

smedindy

the biggest game of the year is this week, BTW.

We were better; we screwed up in inopportune instances. Not sour grapes, especially if you saw the game.

Dude. Your "disappointment" is disingenuous and gross -- I'd rather you just stick your tongue out and say "nyah-nyah." It'd be more honest.

I don't remember the last time anyone from Wabash said we were the better team after a loss. Before yesterday, I've never said it. This isn't, like, a cover up job or something. Did you watch the game? It was a really weird, frustrating game -- Witt fans, if there were any on here, would probably say the same thing. They got drilled. They also won. So, you know, c'est la vie and all that. "That's why you play the game," etc. But I'm not going to--and it doesn't seem like anyone else wants to either--congratulate Wittenberg for outplaying us. Because they didn't.

I have too much respect for most of the Wabash posters to say what I really want to. No one said to congratulate anyone for outplaying you. And it isn't just me thinking this. I am the only one who came out and called YOU out for it. Show some class ONE TIME and congratulate the winner. The other team has good players and they made some plays, apparently enough to win the game.  No Witt posters, sure, but we all know the players and many coaches all read our blather for some reason.

What's pathetic about it is I am probably one of the bigger Wabash supporters over the years not affiliated with your school. Your reaction here is a real joke.

ohiofan1954

wow, and I thought that was a pretty heated battle in Springfield yesterday.

is it the thinking that with a win vs DePauw, Wabash gets an at large bid?
