Not at Mount Union because they don't stream their games at all in 2014.  Tape delay at 1 a.m. in 2014 is still a great option for them.  There are some places out there that do a pay per view of their live web streams- Linfield is one- and that's what they were talking about there.

wabndy is correct, there was a PPV live stream of the JCU/Mount game.  They did the same thing for the Heidelberg game.  It's just a live feed of the TV broadcast that will be shown on tape delay later.  It was $9.95 I believe.

That's my mistake. And very charitable of STO to let people watch for only ten bucks a pop.

The $9.95 would have been ok if the video feed didn't keep going down. Guys said it went down midway through 2nd qtr and again in 4th. The live audio was in and out after the second and I could not get them at all in the 3rd qtr so I had to revert to the radio station phone-in. Listened to it on my cell phone for the 3rd and 4th. Aint technology grand - wi-fi, streaming video and all that jazz but essentially Ma' Bell saves the day.

I was on vacation Saturday, but I got it for the Berg game.  It was great...when it worked.  For $10 I didn't feel like I should have had to refresh my browser every 15 minutes to keep the feed from freezing up.  I felt bad for the guys like K&J Dad who missed the last 2 drives Saturday because it froze.

I know you guys are focused on the Battle of Indiana, but what are the thoughts on Witt vs W&J?  I think that'll be a really good game between a couple of the Blue Bloods of D3.  It seems like strength on strength (W&J O vs. Witt D).  My gut says the Witt offense is better than the W&J defense though.  My dislike of Witt doesn't allow me to root for them ever (especially against an LK disciple), but I think they're the better team.  Having them head up to Alliance to get bounced again this year wouldn't be a terrible consolation if Witt does indeed move on.

Their only common opponent is Wooster.  W & J beat the Scots 51-17 in the season opener after being behind early.  Wittenberg beat them 42-6 about a month later.  Pretty much a wash there.
The Witt offense is not as high powered as a year ago, but the defense is legit.  The Prexy offense has put up big numbers; the defense sometimes has shown vulnerability.
Because the game is at Witt, I'd make the Tigers about a 6 point favorite, but with not much confidence.
Tough opening round draw for both teams.

Witt's back end of the defense is really, really good.  But you can run on them a little bit.  And Rufifng is really good.  I really think W&J can move the ball on Witt a bit.

On the other end, Jenkins and Culvahouse/Stump have turned into a pretty good pass attack.  If W&J can pressure Jenkins, they can have a lot of success.  I think this game actually gets fairly high scoring with both teams 25+.  I'm actually giving W&J a slight edge here because I think their run game translates better to the playoffs than Witt's pass first offense.

I know his stats don't show it, but that Coughlin kid can run too for W&J. His passing numbers are really good, but he's very quick when he takes off so if Witt has any issues with run D keep an eye out for that too.

Piggy-backing on wabndy's note that DePauw hasn't scored a TD on Sewell Field yet, I thought I'd punch up some per game averages for the DePauw offense for games played on Sewell Field (installed in 2010):

First downs: 7.7
Rush yards: 28.6
Pass yards: 101.0
Total offense: 129.0
Points: 1.0

Indeed.  W&J gets yards.  I really think that of the handful of teams that were likely targets to go to Witt, this one is about the worst they could have drawn.  This is a tough matchup for the Tigers.

It would have been interesting to see what the committee would have done with an unbeaten W&J...

No mention of video broadcast. Pat mentioned on the podcast that ncaa doesn't allow pay per view of video streams. I took the comment as a shot directed at mount union. Can someone elaborate on what the postseason video broadcast rules are? I'm sure they'd sell the broadcast rights to any network willing to buy them.

I will not miss Wittenberg's single non-hd camera setup.

Not at Mount Union because they don't stream their games at all in 2014.  Tape delay at 1 a.m. in 2014 is still a great option for them.  There are some places out there that do a pay per view of their live web streams- Linfield is one- and that's what they were talking about there.

I'm not sure exactly how those broadcast rights work, but I think the web pays would basically count as admission and eventually take away from the expense reimbursement that the host schools get from the NCAA.  So there's really no upshot for schools to ask people to pay for the stream.

I was really thinking of some other Purple team to the west.

Agree 100% -- the kid showed some cajones last year up at Mount Union as a true freshman with relatively little experience.

As someone said though, their defense hasn't played well this season.  There may be 80 pass attempts between the two teams in this one.

Final thoughts on the Monon Bell game:

- after last year's game, I thought DPU was two years away from having a good shot at winning the Bell.  After Saturday's performance, I think they are still two years away.  DPU did not show much on Saturday.  On the other hand...

- Wabash's defense overwhelmed DePauw's offense  - Hunt did not have time to do anything.  In the second half, it appeared that DPU gave up on the pass and simply worked to keep the game close as opposed to mounting a comeback.

- I think Wabash's best chances of advancing beyond one game in the playoffs will be their ability to the throw the ball. Towards that end, I think Rice should be the primary QB going forward.  From what I have seen,  Rice throws a much better ball, works his progressions better, and has demonstrated a better pocket presence.  I know that this topic is the third rail for Wabash posters but I think Rice is the better QB.   He now has enough playing time that transitioning him into the starting role would not upset the apple cart.  It is a tough call but I think the right one.

Looking forward to the Franklin game on Saturday.

Gentlemen,

If I've done my Monon Bell math correctly, after the DePauw class of 2015 graduates, not only will there not be any students at DePauw who have experienced winning the Monon Bell (for a few four-year classes running), but there will be no more traditional four year students who attended DePauw with another student who was around the last time DePauw won the Monon Bell.  There is no longer even a second hand experience for any student at DePauw with the Monon Bell.

Looks right to me - freshman class of 2008-09 (last win) would be seniors in 2011-12, whose freshman class would graduate 2014-15.  Oh well, it would be sad if they cared.
