Bleed,
Thanks for proofing my posts and I'd be honored to share a beer with you. We each have a game in front of us before that could happen.

As far as the proof-reading, I had my "I couldn't have said it better myself" line all typed out before I even notice the typo. And then, just couldn't resist.  ;D

Looking forward to that beer whether it be in two weeks or down the road. You are right, both teams have a game to win before that happens.   I'm sure it's just a matter of time before the collision of the teams occur!

Bashbrother, regarding your data point post and the case that a UW-W/Wabash game would be much more competitive than 07. Well stated, well presented, and i concur!  It makes me "buttsore" but I concur!   ;D

This D is one of the best we've ever had - and we've had some really good ones!

WAF

I'm quoting this from the HCAC board and responding here.

I think this is the best defense Wabash has ever had, closely followed by--in chronological order--2002, 2005, and 2011.

Now, BashDad didn't participate in this, he brought facts and stats -- and good analysis, so I believe he's getting a bad rap over there from the Franklin guys...

BashDad must have paid a lot of money to SainstFan for this post. I almost choked on my prozac when I read this.  ;D

Wabash is one of the teams I follow most closely outside of the CCIW. Wheaton has scrimmaged them every year since Carlson was coaching there so I have gotten a little bit of a look at them most years. I also usually watch a couple of the Bash games online a year and so I think I am inclined to agree with this assertion. I do think its a bold statement to be saying at this point in the season having really played 2 or 2.5 teams that have had the ability to test this defense. But my guess is if you repost this in 2 weeks after a 2-0 performance in the post season, nobody will even blink. We are about to find out how true this really is.

bleedpurple -   I, like almost every Wabash poster on this board was at the Perk in 2007 .....  even though we got our butts kicked in a blizzard that day,  it was a great college football road trip.  I hope that Wabash does what they need to do this weekend and wins.   Whether it is by 1 pt or 40 pts....   I would like a return trip to Whitewater.... great food, great atmosphere and great people.

The North Central win and decent showing at Mount Union in 2011 showed many of us Wabash fans growth in the program.   As you know very well, The playoffs are a great measuring stick on the overall direction of your program... we look forward to finding out.

Cheers!
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

BashDad,

I might flip the 2011 D with the 2002 D but that's a tough call!

I wish -- I could use it.  My 7 month old daughter's wardrobe is rapidly multiplying despite the obvious reasons to not invest in name brand stuff, because she's growing like a weed.

I know comparative analysis with regards to opponents is rough water to tread, but given Franklin's schedule and the outcome of those games, I do not think they would have been better than 7-3, maybe 6-4 depending on what time of the season they caught Denison and Depauw. Their main weakness will come in defending the Wabash inside zone / midzone scheme, if Wabash is picking up chunks of yardage on the ground in the first two drives, resulting in points, Franklin will have to stack the box, and that will all but end it.

If Franklin is stout inside, however, they can give Wabash a game for sure. Their offensive production speaks for itself. The key for the Grizzlies will most likely be not having to sacrifice a safety to the box or an extra bandit LB.

Also, look for the Special teams wild-card. One return goes for 6 for either team and the complexity of the game is changed.

Counselor, you're way out of line here.  Just no.  Would Witt and Wabash beat Franklin annually, sure I'll give you that.. but Franklin would win the other 8 games on their schedule-- unless they kept scheduling Butler for their only OOC game.

As much as I $hit on them for the way they dropped Thomas More, MSJ is at least at the Denison or Depauw level (and probably a little bit better).

This years Massey Ratings:

Franklin 87
DPU 88
MSJ 110
Denison 114

Massey really didn't like the HCAC much this year, particularly when they struggled in non-conference (MSJ losing to Millsaps, Franklin losing to IWU) and then had some close results in conference to some bad teams...

Where does Wabash rank on Massey?  Wittenberg?

22nd and 21st respectively.

The same Massey rankings has Amherst 3rd and Johns Hopkins 4th with UWW 7th fyi.

We all know about the issues with the NESCAC there. It's all relative anyway. He chooses to normalize the NESCAC across the entire football universe and not just D-3.

The River Falls game knocked Whitewater down, as it should.  That's not a good result for them

In studying Muhlenberg's high Massey Rating, it looks like the Centennial has teams that aren't horrible (except for McDaniel) and 2-8 Susquehanna gave both JHU AND Muhlenberg a game (and in fact, were only blown out in conference by Ursinus). They also, as a league, had a good W/L record in non-league games (7-3 I believe). They're like the OAC and NCAC in that they have just one non-conference opportunity.

The Centennial is probably overstated in Massey somewhat because of this, but it's not out of the realm of possibilities that JHU could really give Wesley a game, like last year.

I'll put my bracket picks up here sometime tomorrow (because my picks have been oh-so good all year...may as well embarrass myself one more time  :)) but I'm going to disagree with this.  I think Wesley is really, really, really good.  I think there's a Grand Canyon sized gap between Hopkins and Wesley.  And I think Hopkins is really good.  But Wesley is going to beat them like dirty rug- the Wolverines are that good.

Plus, Ergenzinger (lineman for Wesley) is among the best names in the playoffs.

NCAC Post Season Awards have been announced.

DuShawn Brown (Denison) is OPOY, Cody Buresh (Wabash) is DPOY, Nick Murgo (Gheny) is NOY and Joe Fincham (Witt) is COY.

Congrats to all the winners.

Hadn't looked at the All-NCAC team yet though. The team is posted on the page linked above.

EDIT:

Okay, I've looked at the All-NCAC team. Holmes and Zurek. Has a school ever had both RBs before? Wow.
