Merry Christmas D3 Football Fans!
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Post pattern's drop from the top of the d3boards perch happened faster than normal this year.

Always a sad day when I have to scroll down to look for the football chatter, means that winter has arrived.

While I understand and agree with the sentiment, it actually isn't true. There's a board devoted to the change, and they take note of when it happens -- Dec. 23, 2013 and Dec. 26, 2014.

Better conference?
NCAC or PAC
Wabash and Witt vs W&J and Thomas More

And Hiram vs. Westminster.  Don't forget Hiram vs.  Westminster.

It's not really the top; it's not the bottom, either. It's the middle - the depth and breadth.

Waynesburg had a good season. But Bethany down to Geneva were all pretty meh. From third down to eighth the NCAC's better. Theil did beat Allegheny, but that's the dregs of the NCAC. W&J beat Wooster too, but Wooster turned out meh and a conference champ is supposed to plow through the mehness.

Non-conference the PAC was 10-16 (including playoffs and their ECAC Bowls). The NCAC was 6-7.

Interesting that ETP has exactly the opposite analysis of the middles of the leagues.  Only one way to solve this...time to bang the table for a one year NCAC/PAC challenge.  Let's set this up for 2019.

Eh, IDK if I have the "opposite" analysis.  The PAC from #4 down to #10 was "interesting" - but I didn't say it was any good, lol.  Merely that it was fun to see a league where everyone from place #4 to place #10 in the standings could claim at least one win over someone else in that pool.  You could say just about the same for the NCAC - DePauw lost to OWU, who lost to Hiram, who lost to Wooster/Allegheny, you can create just about any combination you like with the middle-of-the-NCAC teams.  I think the middle of the PAC about the same level of meh as the middle of the NCAC.

I do think a PAC-NCAC challenge would be fun and would offer something for most everyone if the matchups were done well.  W & J and TMC vs. Witt and Wabash would be potentially very good games.  Waynesburg vs. NCAC Third Banana (DePauw, are you there?) could be a good game.  The middle of the leagues would generally match up well - Hiram vs. Westminster this year being a good example - and you might even get fun matchups for the cellar-dwellers of the moment.  Mail it in.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Poor memory and attribution on my part- it was jknezek that gave the lean toward the PAC from about the hypothetical #3 on down.

Unfortunately since your alma mater and Case still want to play Wash U and Chicago, that precludes the PAC from entering any such scheduling agreements.

Lean is a good description of my thoughts. A fairly shallow lean...

Since PAC has 11 teams and NCAC 10,one would have to sit out anyway.  Still could have a 9x9 challenge.  Would eliminate the games vs PAC opponents that didn't count in the standings.

Of course, anything can happen in D3 and these matchups may not look good later down the road. Just ask Centre about schedules that went to dust.

This year with Massey Ratings included. I went by standings and then in Massey order to break ties.

Wabash (31) vs. Washington & Jefferson (29) - I think Wabash is underrated in Massey, in part due to HSC's issues and that the team they lost to in the NCAC was pounded by W&J. I think Wabash would be favored by the sharps. Still, this would be the premier matchup and a good measuring stick for both programs.
Wittenberg (45) vs. Thomas More (33)
DePauw (98) vs. Waynesburg (82)
Ohio Wesleyan (129) vs. Bethany (126)
Denison (142) vs. Westminster (147)
Hiram (171) vs. St. Vincent (166)
Wooster (176) vs. Thiel (169)
Oberlin ( 217) vs. Geneva (173)
Kenyon (226) vs. Grove City (227)

Allegheny (230) would sit out.

The only game that may be a 'rout' would be Geneva vs. Oberlin.
