I'm curious who applied and didn't make the finalists. That has to be subject to some open records request.

I'm processing...more thoughts later.  In the meantime, here's one Whitewater superfan's take on Coach Raeburn:

I read where someone thought the coach at Wabash would be a good fit. Pleeze!! Never heard anything so stupid (the idea not the messenger!! Let's make that crystal clear)...nearly made me vomit. No offense to their guy since I don't know him - but they can keep him - UWW needs to do much better (has nothing to do with being elite - so don't even go down that road) and should do much better than that. Have to go forward in a selection - that would be backward, IMO.  Picking someone on that level would be a major, I mean, major mistake. Wabash style of play doesn't in the slightest way excite me and if they reflect his coaching, which I'm sure they do, doesn't make me feel excited about him. Just the thought of that makes me sicker than eating airplane food for the past two days. But I'm certain that will never happen, so my illness should be short lived.

So there's that.

I had forgotten about that. That's the same post where he said he wanted Jeff Jagodzinski.

Wow, the Whitewater fans ARE Mt. Union II, Electric Boogaloo...

What do they want, Kehres? They're not going to get someone like Drass, Cragg, Vosburgh, Joe Smith or Fredenburg.

Who would be better that's an existing D3 coach and isn't a lifer at the school? Caruso from St. Thomas? Sirianni from W&J has always applied here and there at times to places but never jumped or was never offered. But man, someone help me on someone who is not a lifer at their school (like Swider at Wheaton, for example) and has a better track record in academics and athletics success than ER? Anyone comparable recently?

If TLU stays on the upswing Padron may become a hot commodity. But that's a few years down the road. I don't get it.

They probably have to have five finalists or something. I'm sure Wisconsin's open records laws have them publishing the resumes and applications.

We don't have to have a set number of finalists here in Washington, but we have to have the job posted publicly. Usually we have four or five finalists for any position that get brought in, dog-and-ponied, and meet-and-greeted...

I think there were three or four finalists for the job when Creighton and ER got it...

Of course, North Central just said, "Here, son, you take it!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

How will his experience in being unceremoniously fired from Boston College for being a weasel, and fired from Tampa for being a boorish lout, and fired from his stint with the Omaha Nighthawks help him in the WIAC?

Mr. Ypsi

Well, since no one seems able to derail the annual UMU/UWW Stagg Bowl, having VK's cousin coaching UWW at least may give it a new twist for a bit! ;D

Will they still keep the game open to the public, or will it be a private family reunion? ;)

Whatever, he's not getting hired. Period.

I think here's a good chance he will. And then you won't have to worry about losing a head coach and maybe a coordinator or two.

Would suit us just fine. There is something to be said for continuity, right?

You guys. Raeburn is hired. It's over.

Li'l Giant

I agree with you. I just think it's funny they want to act like they don't really want him.

Once again.....broad brush. One post doesn't represent the entire uww fan base.

I mean:

"Defensive Run Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator, UW Whitewater 2008-Present"

I'm not surprised that he's a finalist, if they're going to have five "finalists" there is really no harm in giving the internal guy one of those slots.

What really did surprise me, as others have said, is there aren't any bigger division guys the list. I wasn't expect Jeff Jagodzinski, but I thought there would be a highly accomplished D2 coach or a hot coordinator from a higher level that wanted a HC job.  As has been discussed previously, there aren't many D3 coaches who are good enough to attract UWW's attention that aren't firmly entrenched where they are (guys like Drass at Wesley, for example; I have to assume that if he was ever planning to leave Wesley, he'd have been gone go a D2 or FCS job long ago).

Other than the lack of a really strong higher division candidate, I think the list represents a couple of things you'd expect to see. There's one internal candidate; one other WIAC guy (who I think might be an inferior coach to Raeburn, but WOULD have the advantage of intimate knowledge of the WIAC schools' profile, which are much different than where Raeburn has played and coached, if the UWW administration considers that important), one REALLY successful D3 coach (ER) and one other "pretty good" D3 coach in Dean Paul (who I think is a "safety" candidate - but as the last guy to round out a list, he's not bad). That meets a lot of the "types" (internal, other WIAC, outside HC with success) that I figure they want on that final list. The not thing missing in my mind is that I expected a genuinely successful D2 or FCS coordinator to put their hat into the ring, some up and comer hoping to recreate the Leipold path of "massive success at UWW leading to offer for HC at bigger school" - not the d2 guy they ended up with, according to what's been said here.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...
