I know a lot of you LGs are planning a trip to HSC next week. HSC is in a rural part of Virginia. In addition to HSC itself a couple of interesting civil war battlefields are near by. If you are interested in civil war history.

Sailor's Creek Battlefield (about 15 miles from HSC) where one of the last battles of the civil war occurred.  It was only about 72 hours later at Appomattox Courthouse (about 25 miles from HSC) where Lee surrended the Army of Virginia to Grant.

smedindy I won't trust the reports. I looked back however at the film.  There was no mass emptying of Wabash's bench nor was there a staggering 3rd or 4th quarter Nance as the LG poster had stated. Never happen.

I would highly recommend both places HSCTiger mentioned. I've toured Appomattox Courthouse several times and will try to do so once again on this visit or next summer. I've been to Sailor's Creek Battlefield twice and love standing on the front porch of the house that overlooks the battlefield and imagine the troop movements as that portion of the Civil War drew to its conclusion.

If you are driving to Farmville from the Midwest, I would also recommend stopping in Bedford, VA to visit the D-Day Memorial. The entire Memorial is well done and quite moving. I had the chance to visit this summer a day before the anniversary celebration and spoke to families of vets from that campaign. Great experience.

WabashSID - had no clue you were a history buff!!  Love it.  Those battlefields sound incredible.

Still debating the road trip but would love to be there.  WabCo - will probably not make Friday night but would leave Friday night...

BashBro - your analogies are spot on!

NESCAC in SCIAC territory? That sounds about right.

We'll never even have a clue. :(

While I respect the NESCAC for academics and nearly all other sports, for football I do not even consider them to be D3 - they are intramurals!

I had forgotten about that...  There was quite a discussion on here about that strategic move..

1hr. 43 min. Into the game cast starts the drive with the 3rd down punt

It was 3rd and 26 from their own 4. The punt was a quick kick by QB that went 49 with no return. Not a bad play at the time. The HSC starting punter did not have one that netted out within 10 yards of that punt. I not saying it's done often but it's not a dumb coaching move like you guys make it out to be. It made sense to coach at the time and it worked.

Yep, and the quick kick is generally effective for that reason. You guys are beating a dead horse on this. As I said then, I've seen Favret's offenses quick kick for 20 years. Not some new act of desperation just for Wabash.

bashbrother, having Wooster ranked #205 doesn't help.  What the heck is going on there?

When a team elects to punt on third down, does the defense get credit for 3rd down efficiency or no?

I think anytime you steal a down from Nash Nance and Holton Walker and give up on a series before you have to it's not a smart move.  Different personnel, fine, surprise punt away on whatever down and distance you want until your QB's leg falls off.  But not with those two guys.  Those two guys deserved the down- because they were good enough to win the down.  It was telling, for me at least, that Favret surrendered a series at that point in the game.

Well, I'm guessing that Favret knows his team better than you do. :)
