Just when I think the top teams are in good shape to hold serve, UMHB gets beat.  Chance to move up one slot.

Or down. Umhb isn't going to fall far, Hardin Simmons will undoubtedly be ranked ahead of us.

They have some real problems at QB in big games.  I'm going to have to research hard before I place the Cru after this loss.

Wooster-Kenyon game was very exciting today with a great come back from the Scots. An announcement was made that next weeks game between Wittenberg and Kenyon has been rescheduled for 1000am. Rather strange and no mention of that on either the tigers or lords sites yet.

Wabash had 1 penalty for 10 yards (OWU only 2 for 20), just a stat that caught my eye from yesterday.

Status on Tutsie?

firstdown

Wally I agree. The Colts would love 494 yards of offense in a game.  As a comparison, DePauw had 416 yards of total offense, and UMHB had 372 yards.  OWU held UMHB to 20 points thru the 3rd quarter.  OWU has some good players but lacks the team depth to stay with UMHB and Wabash.  Yesterday, you could see Wabash's offensive and defensive lines taking a toll on OWU later in the game.

Are we LG fans getting a little spoiled?  The team is doing a great job.  Having the Witt game early, makes for a different set of challenges this season.  The LG's have been focused on adding depth on both the offensive and defense side of the ball, e.g., the new freshman wide receivers.  Yesterday, was a good win over a team coming off a good win over Depauw the week before.  Only Coach Lombardi and his Packers ever approached a near perfect game.

Wabash is 8-0 because of hard work by the team this spring and summer in conditioning, and this fall at practice.  The coaching staff has been working to prepare the team for each new opponent and to build team depth.  Nobody gave the LG's those eight wins.  They did it themselves the old fashion way, they earned them.  LG fans, come support the team the next two weeks.  Both Denison and DePauw are good teams, and the LG's will work hard if they are to earn 2 more victories.

You must not have been alone.  Hardin Simmons jumps Wabash to 8, UMHB falls to 10.  Wabash holds at 9, in a Texas sandwich.

I think that result is going to set us up for a crazy tournament.. But yeah, three of the Purple Powers have efficiency issues at QB.  Crazy.

I'm gonna say this and know I'll get slammed but I think it's total BS that a 13 jumps a 9 after beating 3.  It would be different if Wabash beat OWU on a last second FG but they didn't.  I get that it happens but I just don't agree.  It's as if teams get "slotted" and should LOSE in order for them to get jumped or lose a spot.  Interestingly enough in this case, OWU hung with UMHB for 3 quarters...  My case is helped even more with the fact we are through 8 games of the 2015 season.

Not the end of the world but just annoying as hell.

I hope the tournament will help sort this out...

Seriously? Hardin-Simmons is undefeated and has a win better than anything Wabash has to show. How could you not move them up? Just because a team started the year lower in the polls than another team doesn't mean they can't do enough to move higher. Hardin-Simmons has one of the best wins of the season as these things are generally thought of. If anything, they are still too low.

BashBacker#16

Then why wasn't Hardin Simmons ranked higher going in to the game?  They're undefeated right?  Or better yet, what did Wabash do to get " jumped?"

Just my 2 cents and through my red tinted glasses.

Poll theory has a lot of the answers you are looking for. Why weren't they ranked higher? Because they started the season unranked and have had to fight the preseason bias all year. What did Wabash do to get jumped? Nothing. Hardin-Simmons just did something more impressive than anything Wabash has done so far this year. Doesn't that readjust your thinking on how good H-SU is? I really like the concept of the Playoff Committee. Every week we start from nothing with new data. The rankings from last week are no longer relevant, all that is relevant is the totality of what we have now.

That's how Ohio State jumped TCU/Baylor. And didn't that turn out to be a pretty good call? What's a better system? We use the crappy data from pre-season and only move people down when they lose, or we use all the real data accumulated week after week and make fresh judgments on that data? If you decide option A, you need those red-tinted glasses examined by an ophthalmologist. They aren't tinted, they are blocked out.

We had 433 points in this poll. We had 440 last week. That's a negligible change in Wabash's standing with the voters.

HSU went from 320 to 450 because that was a massive win. I don't think any of it is unreasonable.

The truth is Wabash won't get a chance to wow any voters unless we win some playoff games. Even the win over Witt only gained us 22 points because it didn't tell the voters much of anything they didn't already know about Wabash.

On Wednesday,  If HSU is ahead of us in the North Regional Rankings.....  I will then be both confused and pissed!   ;D

6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th..... all mean that the voters believe you are a pretty darn good football team....  playoffs will sort the rest out.

You're probably not going to find a lot of people agreeing with you here. Voters were clearly wrong on Hardin-Simmons and corrected that. That's what we expect them to do and if it favored Wabash, you'd expect it, too.
