I agree. And Wheaton is like to have 2 wins v RRO (assuming a win Saturday and NCC wins out). I am not sure how they determine seeds. Do you know the criteria?

Same criteria for seeding.  As undefeated teams Wabash and Wheaton would be allowed to draw on last year's tournament as a tiebreak of sorts- but both went out in the second round, so kind of a push there.

I would also say that I don't think Wabash and Wheaton are necessarily competing with each other for a second round home game.  It's possible they aren't in the same part of the bracket...and both could get two home games!

Good point. Very real chance Wheaton gets put into a west oriented bracket (it has happened to Wheaton (2012) and the CCIW (2013)).

When you say "draw on last year's tournament" is that spelled out somewhere and defined? Or ambiguous like most criteria tend to be? What does that actually mean "last year's tournament"? Their standing? their performance? Seems ambiguous tome.

From the handbook:

QuoteWhen all criteria are equal among teams with undefeated records in the primary criteria, the NCAA Division III Football Committee can use a team's performance in the previous championship season as a criterion.

Remember that the genesis of this language stems from the 2010 Whitewater situation.  Defending national champion UW-Whitewater had done nothing but squash every team they played in 2010 and then were inexplicably sent on the road starting with the quarterfinals.  It was lunacy and the following year the football committee added that language as a way to avoid that kind of error in the future.

Many people wish Mount Union would get dislodged from Alliance sometime before Salem, but I don't think anybody believes they deserve to be dislodged from Alliance before Salem despite pretty routinely having really average selection/seeding criteria.  That language more or less codifies what we all know to be reasonable.

Also keep in mind that that specific language only applies to undefeated teams.  Once you lose (Whitewater, UMHB), you lose any sort of bonus points you might get from having performed well in the previous year's tournament.  It is the sort of thing though that would give Wabash a home game in a hypothetical 2nd round game with somebody like Thomas More.

Tomorrow's game at Wabash with Denison is also Family Day.  So bring the kids and let's cheer on the Little Giants to victory!

Wally - I think a more accurate statement is that Wabash is playing to remain in contention for a conference championship tomorrow. Even if we beat Denison, we don't lock up the championship.  With only one conference loss, DePauw can still win it all - unless they choke on the Yeomen -  with a win in the Bell game.  While we would tie with same record, DePauw would take the championship with the head to head win - yes?

Nope.  The AQ and conference championship are separate.  We can lock up a piece of the conference championship tomorrow.  The AQ will likely have to wait until the bell game.  In 2006 we split a conference championship with Wittenberg because we finished with the same conference record.  They got the AQ because of the H2H win.  The tiebreaker rules are only applicable to the AQ.

Nope.  The AQ and conference championship are separate.  We can lock up a piece of the conference championship tomorrow.  The AQ will likely have to wait until the bell game.  Over the years we split several conference championships with Wittenberg because we finished with the same conference record.  The tiebreaker rules are only applicable to the AQ.

Got it. Thanks.

I should have known that Wally was right.

I think the LG/Big Red match-up is the game of the week in the NCAC
After the tough loss to the Tigers...Denison will want to bounce back, and,
though, I think Bash will win...a good showing by the Red will solidify the building
process the program has started. The Bash Machine will continue...but will they cover?

Bishops need  to roll over the sorry Gators at Selby...Then go to Wooster to finish strong
and gain the Big Mo for the recruiting Watts n staff will do....The guys will have to have a great
off-season to get ready for THE game at Mary Hardin Baylor...

College games tonight (Fri)...then conference play Sat....everybody have a great weekend...
no injuries...go CC and EMU..and GO BISHOPS

For Witt Gary and Dehnke missed the Oberlin game due to injury; though, Fincham is admittedly giving younger guys game reps. Gary will play vs. Kenyon, while Dehnke seems to be questionable.
